I have been staying at the El Presidente, Cozumel for 30 years. My most recent trip was in November of 2012. The El Presidente is the most luxurious and most expensive hotel in Cozumel that being said no hotel can be everything to everyone. The El Prez is not an all inclusive like many Cozumel resorts. At all inclusive hotels people never leave, they tend to stay at the bar to drink their moneys worth , which can lead to a lot of heavy drinking hence the El Prez has always been more laid back and less of a party than other places. At the El Prez more people are adventuring out to eat or drink. It's more of "bring your own party" than a "come and join the party" kind of place. On previous trips I let my 10 year old have the run of the place without hesitation, it's a great family environment and very secure. On the other hand If you travel at times other than Christmas or Spring break you are not likely to see any kids at all. The El Prez can create romantic candlelight dinners on the beach and you can order from any of the restaurants to your room.
Rooms are immaculate. The El Prez uses very high quality linens and pillows, all rooms have wireless internet access and flat screen televisions with satellite movies etc. Separate showers and tubs in most rooms, high quality bath robes, slippers and all the little amenities you expect from a luxury hotel. Rooms have coffee makers with unlimited complimentary coffee pods. Mini bar in room. 24 hour room service.
The best and most expensive rooms are the Reef Rooms and the Beachfront Superior rooms(5100's). All of these rooms are located directly on the beach, you open your door and you are literally on the beach. If you travel with younger children they can run to and from your room without your assistance which can be a great luxury. The Reef Rooms cost slightly more and have their own concierge and are located on the Northern end of the hotel. I prefer the slightly less expensive Beachfront Superior rooms on the Southern end which have a slightly larger beach and and a 2nd outside shower located within your room. The best room for the best price rooms are the pool front rooms located in the Northern end of the hotel across from the Reef rooms.
Wireless internet is available throughout the hotel meaning on the beach and poolside and in the restaurants. if you like to stay plugged in you can do it !
Two beautiful swimming pools, one is hidden and a little more private the other is located adjacent to the main dining room which is a palapa right on the ocean.
Spa: Nice to have, but not the reason to stay at the El Prez, Complimentary access to the health club and steam room is a recent change !
Watersports : You can snorkel or scuba right off the beach at the hotel. The hotel has jetskis' and can probably arrange just about anything you want
Food: The hotels main restaurant is located right on the water in a giant palapa, a great place to watch the sunset. 24 hour room service is available, and Alfredo's a delicious on site Italian restaurant.Alfredo's food can be ordered to your room. Food and drink is served poolside and beachside, good guacamole, and beef fajita nachos ! The hotel has a daily breakfast buffet that runs about 20.00$ US... Its has a variety of fresh squeezed juices and fresh fruit , a couple American cereals, bacon sausage, hame , smoked salmon, omelets cooked to order, chillaquilles coffee, toast , bagels etc or you can order alacarte
2 tennis courts
Club for kids, arts and crafts for kids and adults.
DIVING: Scuba Du the onsite diver operator. Conveniently located at the hotel they will load and unload and maintain your dive gear for the duration of your stay provided that you dive with them. I have had some good experiences with Scuba Du and like most of their divemasters but I find the attitude of the management a little too sour and not up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. They want you to pay in American cash which is also hassle. Most other dive operators in Cozumel will pick you up in their boat at the Presidente. they will keep and maintain your gear as well.
Rental cars are available at the hotel.
SERVICE:The service at the El Prez is outstanding, They will attempt to arrange whatever you want and really go the extra mile for you.
Tips go a long way in Mexico and most of the employees rely on this important source of income
When I arrive I generally tip the bellman and valet about 20.00$ us and ditto for the front desk concierge, housekeeping and the guy that leans the scuba gear....you can't imagine the value of this 100.00$ us is a small fraction of what you will spend on a week at the El Prez You will be rewarded with service beyond compare....be smart give it to them when you arrive...not when you leave !!!!!!!!
