We took a cab ($25 each way) from the International Cruise Terminal to Palancar beach hoping to do some snorkel from shore. There is very little there to see on your own, but you can book a snorkel trip to Palancar and Columbia reefs from a stand on the beach (+- $45 per person). Both places were very beautiful and the snorkeling was super easy (you drift over the reefs). The guide was helpful and attentive to the needs of the children in our group. During our excursion we saw turtles, rays, small black tip sharks, crabs and a plethora of fish. Prior to our departure from home, I tried to book a two tank dive, but all operators who catered to cruise passengers were booked to capacity, so we had to snorkel. However, on our snorkel trip there was one diver and he was only about 20 feet below us. All he saw, we saw as well, since the reef is in fairly shallow waters. The beach itself is only OK, but if you head left from the entrance, you can entertain yourself with the family of raccoons and peacocks, which hang around the back waiting for the bar owner to feed them.
