“Nice location - but average drinks and touristy "mexican" food”

We had dinner here during our stay in Cozumel. To find really good, authentic mexican food in Cozumel is hard. This beautiful island mostly caters to Cruisers and gets pretty quiet at night. So it's really hard to find a good spot (suprisingly most restaurants here get good feedbacks, so it's real work to find a truly good place to eat).

Based on ok feedback and its location we decided to have some dinner here. It's located right on the zocalo. There's artists, food carts and more in the evening. Free live music on weekends. So it's a good spot.
The service was fast and very friendly, no complaints here. We ordered two margaritas. They were pretty sweet and quite warm. Not good.
As a starter we had fried calamari. Not too fresh, but good enough and crispy. As mains we had a whole fried fish and tacos.
The food looked nice...but wasn't. We know good, authentic mexican food from our trip through Mexico. And sadly the food here isn't real mexican or either good.
The fish probably wasn't caught "today" and was fried way too long, so it became chewy. The tacos looked fine, but were extremely bland. No flavors....

This place just has "Tourist Trap" written all over...we went anyway, because of its location, but didn't leave happy. The drinks taste better in "Las Palmeras", also on the Zocalo. And if you want to get some good seafood, you should take a trip (if you have time) to the other side of the island and eat at the "Mezcalito" where you get a beachfront location. For great tacos, head to the Mercado and sit down at the "Taqueria Molina".

We've been here a couple of times now on different trips, always to share a pizza and drink some beers. The beer prices are good and the pizza is also pretty good. Lot's of different pizza options as far as toppings go. We had the Al Pastor last time, which is pork, pina and onion.
I'm pretty sure they close during siesta.

Bianca the owner does a great job here. We have only eaten lunch here from our cruise ship stops (several times a year), but the fajitas and $1 Coronas can't be beat. The food is always delicious and the homemade salsa is great, but a little on the hot side, so I drink plenty of bottled water with it.

The flies can be pretty furious especially when the food comes out, but they place fans around the tables to blow them away since it's an outside restaurant and the fans also make it nice and cool. The waiters seem to make their wages on mostly tips, so they tend to be aggressive in trying to get you in so they can wait on you. Of course, there is a particular waiter that we like, so we ask for him and bypass the first person that approaches us.

This is a great local place to sit back, relax and people watch since it's on the corner of the square. The Restroom is tiny and very hot when the door is closed, but at least it's clean with soap and hand towels. This is a very non-commercial local feeling place, that's what I like about it in addition to the food and drink.

Another great factor to consider about this place is that Bianca is extremely fair on giving you the current currency exchange rate unlike most places that we used to eat at around her as we found out before finding her place. Our bill was always calculated to the going rate on the Oanda currency website and the bill has always came out perfect with Bianca! We have eaten here for 3 years straight now on every cruise stop, the next will be in two months!

A number of friends who frequent Mosaicoz when they visit Cozumel enthusiastically recommended this restaurant, so we decided to give it a try. We weren’t disappointed and ended up eating there twice in 7 days. We actually had trouble finding it for several days because their sign is small. The restaurant is in the pedestrian area of the main square downtown. It is on the opposite corner of Fat Tuesdays. If you stand with your back to the ocean and look at the Plaza del Sol lettering, look to the right and you’ll see the umbrellas and tables. There are 15 small tables outside, grouped under 6 umbrellas. There is no inside seating. Because they do not have a permanent roof over the seating, there isn’t much protection if it is raining hard (although they do put tarps over the umbrellas.) This is a great place to people watch and listen to music if there is a band playing in the square (which there usually is on weekend evenings).

They are generally open for both lunch and dinner. Pizza (which is what we hear the most about and wanted) is available only after 5pm (because it would be too hot to run the brick oven in the small kitchen earlier in the day) and takes ½ hour to prepare and cook. The first time we were there we didn’t know this and were there at ~3:30 pm, so ended up eating at Casa Dennis (also good). We came back the next night at 5 and were told that the pizza wouldn’t be ready until 6 because the oven needed to heat up. Disappointed, but determined to try the pizza our friends raved about, we decided to have a beer and walk around the square and return. We paid for our pizza (the waiter told us we could pay when we came back if we wanted) and the waiter promised that our pizza would be ready for us at 6. We returned at 6 and to our surprise the pizza was ready and set down on our table right on time! We had the Mosiacoz pizza ($9.50 US) and it was our favorite of the two we had this week. The thin crust and just-right-amount of toppings was delicious. The owner, Bianca, is a former pastry chef and makes the dough herself. It was very good! They serve complimentary chips and pico-de-gallo before your meal along with a spicy green chili salsa (if you want it). We met and talked with the owner Bianca and mentioned we might return the next night and she gave us a coupon for 2 free margaritas! The second night we had the Belize pizza and it was also good, but the Moscaicoz was our favorite.

Other tidbits: Our service was very good both times. They accept pesos or US currency. They have bud light along with a variety of local beers. $2.50 for bud light. $1 coronas to go. The menu included pizza, pastas, some seafood and a variety of other items. Reasonable prices (i.e. pizza $9-10 US). Pizza size is similar to what would be a “medium” thin crust in the US. It, along with the chips/salsa filled the two of us up. The bathroom right inside the building. Walk into the building and you can see the brick oven. Our favorite part of eating there was meeting and getting to know Bianca, the owner. Although she is very busy, she took time to sit with us for a few minutes and chat. She was witty, pleasant and charming. Although my husband did his best to give her crap, she kept right up with him and gave it right back. It was very entertaining. We will definitely be back to this charming spot and can’t wait to try other things on the menu.
