This casual restaurant serves an amazing fresh whole-fried huachinango (snapper). Servers are friendly and speak fantastic English (and sense of humor). Comfortable for families and free wifi is an added bonus.

We liked everything about this restaurant--the pleasant table under the palapa, the grilled seafood platter, and the fact that several fish arrived freshly from the sea as we dined. Sergio in his jewelry store up the street recommended the place, and it turned out to be as good as he had said.

We have eaten at Abuelo Gerardo many times over the years, and have always enjoyed the food and experience. For our current visit, during Carnival, we were told by two different gringos who live in Cozumel that this is where they go for the best seafood in town. We were there with a group of 8, had an excellent experience, and the food was so good that some of our group ate there again a few days later.

If you want a great deal on a good fish dinner, this is the place. They get fresh fish from the local fisherman and grill it to perfection. They server you an ample amount of salad, rice and veggies to go along with it. The beer is pretty cheap and they also give you some salsa and chips. I tried their mole enchiladas on another night for 80 pesos and thought that is was a good meal. The ambiance is not great with the fluorescent lighting, but you have to take the bad with the good.

We ate here many years ago, and liked it. Then we thought it went downhill, but now it is really good. Try it.

Heard about it from some Americans who have been coming here for 20 years. Gerardo gets the best fresh fish of the day and then broils it to perfection. The soups are also wonderful. This is one our favorite new places. I am a food snob and my other favorites are New Especias, Kondesa, Guidos and La Cocay. So if you like that quality of dining, you will love this place. OK on the ambience with a somewhat noisy location on 10th, but the grilled snapper is worth it. They bring you a choice of what fish you want and then they charge by the weight. It was very reasonable. We each had a large bowl of soup, one margarita, and a nice sized snapper for $30. It doesn't get any better.
