Some friends of mine got me hooked on La Casa Del Mojito a couple of years ago, while we were on a dive drip. They had known about it for quite a while. I had always passed by this small restaurant about a block or so off of the main tourist area of the central square of San Miguel. What a welcome surprise! The owner is the best place to start as Alex is a friendly, engaging person who is a great cook of authentic Cuban food (he is from Cuba); a maker of great, real mojitos; and a Cuban cigar expert. Now, my friends are the cigar and mojito lovers ( I don't smoke and am a beer fan). Regardless the food is great! The menu has many good choices of delicious Cuban dishes. The service here has been great the five or six times I have been there, the wait staff is friendly, chatty, and accommodating. In April 2012, my last visit, I met Johnny, a waiter/cook/mojito maker who is focused on good service and is great fun to talk to. I think he went to school for a while in Washington, DC, but is from Mexico City. Not sure if I got that right but he and ALex are fluent English speakers, if that is important to you. Definititely give this restaurant a try, I am sure you will love it.
