After my 16th all inclusive trip - from Cuba 10 times, Dominican, Costa Rica and Mexico, it is finally time to write a review - We stayed at the Allegro Cozumel from Mar 15 - 22 my husband and I, my girlfriend and her brother. We had a GREAT trip. Flights were on time, arrival at the Hotel was quick and painless. We did have to wait for our room, we arrived at 9:30 in the morning. No worries, weather was lovely, we made our way to the pool and changed into our suits. Drinks were next on the agenda.
Staff were lovely and friendly, food was plentiful but only at meal times! No late night snacking here! Bars don't open until 10:00 a.m., then people are lined up at the Beach bar., they did have wait service on the beach, which was appreciated and the waiters were well tipped for their service. Rooms were clean and well stocked, always lots of towels and water. Only drawback was no in room fridge, we learned to drink room temperature water, when you're thirsty you'll drink anything.
Only drawbacks that we could find were, not enough bars, only beach bar, pool bar (which don't open till 10:00 a.m. or later then you get a line up) and lounge upstairs (dosen't open till 5:00 p.m. and closes at 11:00) across from main buffet - there is a "disco" bar but it dosen't open till 9:00 p.m.
WE did do a couple of excursions on our own - rented a taxi and went into San Miguel on Sunday night ($16.00 each way), every Sunday the town has a family festival night in the market square, there is music, lots of children dressed in their sunday best, familes enjoying each other, lots of food and a general community atmosphere, it was lovely.
We also went on the Pirate ship for an evening from 5:00 till 8:30 - WHAT a GREAT time we had, it is well worth the price, the entire evening was so enjoyable, food was great, music was fun, the PIRATES were entertaining, we danced, and sang and thoroughly enjoyed our evening.
Our last excursion was to rent a vehicle and travel to the other side of the island. This kind of got messed up but we didn't let it ruin our day. We had booked a 4 door jeep for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday Mar 20, when we went to get the jeep - to be picked up outside the lobby of the resort, we were told we didn't have a reservation, we had the paperwork, we'd paid the money but no Jeep and were told maybe tomorrow. That was not an option, so they offered us a small compact car instead, ensuring we all fit into the car we decided to take it. 1/2 hr later than planned we were heading out, what a beautiful scenic drive - gorgeous water, blue skies, great company, who could ask for more.
Our last day on the beach my girlfriend turned to me and said, there is a crocodile, What ! and low and behold coming out of the tree area to my left shoulder a crocodile walks across the sand and into the ocean, I'm yelling alligator, get out of the water - my husband jumps out of his chair and runs after it - we then have the beach running to see this. That gave everyone something to talk about!
Overall - we had a great trip - I know that each person has their own experience and experiences can change from one day to the next. But, please know that there is no horror story at this resort - yes there is always room for improvement - that is life!

My husband and I stayed at the Allegro Cozumel March 9th-16th for our best friends beautiful beach wedding! Ivan, the hotel manager and wedding consultant was AMAZING!!! He took care of everything and went above and beyond for our whole party! The sunset ceremony on the beach was a dream!

The resort itself is really nice. It was our very first all-inclusive stay so we went in with no expectations at all. Our room was small but nice and they made sure we were stocked with water bottles everyday, along with those cute towel animals. There was a breakfast buffet open daily from 7-10:30, and then the next restaurant didn't open for lunch until Noon which we thought was a little odd. The lunch buffet was by the pools and came with a really nice swim up bar. We spent a lot of time there! :) The lunch buffet closed at 5pm and the dinner buffet didn't open until 6pm. There were two restaurants, a Mexican and an Oriental, that required reservations. You NEED to make your dinner reservations as soon as you get to the resort - they only take a certain number at each restaurant each night and they fill up fast!

The beach was very big which meant we never missed out on a beach chair of our own. The pools were nice, especially the secluded adult pool with jets! There is a beach bar with those fun swings you can sit on. Be sure to get a Bloody Mary from Jose!!! He does an AMAZING job!!!!

This was our 9th trip to this resort so we have experienced many variations over the years. This year was by far the best trip yet. The staff, starting at the top with Anabel, Karina, Mario & Jessica; to Raul, restaurant captain; Very, our housekeeper; Freddy S, our favorite bartender; the entire Activity Staff: Raul, Alan, Christian, Damian, & Jorge were the best group yet.
The staff this year was exceptional! Everyone of them were always friendly, courteous & fun; we were always greeted with a smile & "hola". The room was kept clean, the hard beds were quite comfortable, the drinks were adequately strong (no need to get intoxicated), the food was fresh & always a wide variety & good supply. If you went hungry it was definitely your own fault. Of course the beach was beautiful, as usual. The resort grounds were immaculately mowed & trimmed, the Activity Pool had recently had maintenance & was great. I have highly recommended this resort in the past & will continue to send new guests. Thank you to all the staff who our two week stay a great vacation!

Room Tip: Upper rooms allow you to hear all the bird noises, lower rooms are quieter.

The resort is great for singles, for families, and for peaceful vacationers. The food this year is the best it has been in 3 years or more. The price is all inclusive for drinks and food. Breakfast buffet, lunch buffet, dinner buffet, and two specialty restaurants by reservation only are included in your rate. Reserve your spot at the specialty restaurants when you check in! The Chinese restaurant is the best! I strongly recommend the beef curry. You can snorkel right off the beach, swim in a pool, take dance lessons or visit the spa! (If you require snacks between meal times, remember to bring your snacks to the resort before checking in!) Bring plastic bags to keep your food items in, and clothes as well. The accommodations are hut style, and on the top floors, you do get some jungle critters. (Also, there is no flushing of toilet paper as waste is directly put out into the ocean/water system on the other side of the island.) But, there is awesome air conditioning.

Room Tip: If you do not want lizards peaking over the top of the wall, choose a bottom floor. Know that you a...

The staff is EXTREMELY rude! It rained outside and our roof leaked and all of our clothes where soaked not to mention my labtop and cell phone where on the bed an also had been ruined, they only offered to clean our clothes. They put plastic bags on the wet bed like we where dogs. The beds where insanely UNCOMFORTABLE! THE FOOD MADE US SICK! I had to constantly ask for water bottles and when I called to the front desk they would ignore me and not bring the water or I would have to call about 4 more times until they finally brought it. There is a kids pool and this loud horn goes off threw out the day, it is not relaxing at all. They use cheep liquor that tastes horrendous. DO NOT EAT AT THE ORIENTAL PLACE THE FOOD SUCKS, it may look nice but its terrible!!!! The rice was not cooked all the way, the sea food smelled terrible. Not to mention we both had gotten sick from that crappy place as well. The list continues. The only good thing was the beach. If you want good food I suggest getting a taxi and going into town, La Chosa they have AMAZING FOOD!!! Needless to say we will NEVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE AGAIN.

Room Tip: Get a room away from the kids pool, the horn is INSANELY loud and annoying

Dear Tee M,

I'm very sorry to read that our resort did not meet your expectations. The satisfaction of our guests is top priority and your experience with us was not the norm for our hotel.
Please accept my sincerest apologies for the inconveniences that you encountered with your room. Our rooftops are thatched to add to the design of our resort and provide an authentic experience. Unfortunately there can be issues when there is heavy rain and we work around the clock to repair them. I've discussed your experience with our maintenance and housekeeping managers, and I assure you that they are being addressed. Our goal is to provide the best vacation to all of our guests, and it saddens me to read that we fell so short on this during your stay.
I will certainly share your feedback about the cuisine with our executive chef, as he is always looking for ways to improve the dining experience for our guests. We do our best to offer a wide variety of food with the Buffet, featuring international cuisine and two a la carte restaurants: The Mexican and The Oriental.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback, again I am very sorry we did not meet your expectations.

Sincerely,

Our 4th trip to the Allegro Cozumel (March 6-13, 2013). The grounds, lush and beautiful as always. The staff friendly and willing. A totally cool and laid back place to spend some quality down time. Food is just fine, lots of options everyday. If you're a foodie, go elsewhere, it's not what the Allegro is about. Rooms suite me just fine, I always ask for the second floor. Yup, when it rains the thatched roof might leak. Keep your papers and passports in the safe and your electronics in the cubbies. The trade off is a great nights sleep in a room filled with fresh ocean air, sublime! If things get damp the staff will bust it to clean things up. Really just a minor nuisance. The pools are great, one for just about everyone. The kids pool is very cool. Big water dumping bucket, slides, super shallow easy walk in. Tons of loungers. Just want to chill, there's a relax pool with a bridge. Looking for action, hit the pool down by the beach complete with swim up bar, music, and water sports. All three pools are large and never over crowded. One of my personal faves is the beach. White and sandy straight into the beautiful blue Caribbean. Tons of loungers and a bar just steps away. We dive. Both of my girls certified with Hanns and the gang at Pro Dive in 2012 and we had some amazing dives this year. The nightly shows are a bit kitschy but if you want highend shows go to Vegas. Attendance is optional and the beach is a great place to end the day. If you need banging nightlife grab a cab and hit the bars downtown. I have one little request of my fellow visitors to the Allegro. Show some class and respect to our hosts. Don't leave your cups wherever! Put you buts in the provided receptacles and if you feel the need to dump your melted ice into the sand pick up your limes and lemons. Remember you are in someone else's country. Yes you paid to be there but that doesn't entitle you to be a pig, be nice! See you next year Allegro :)

After reading previous reviews, we knew we wanted to stay closest to the beach and have a ground floor room due to possible leaky roofs and loud birds in the roofs. We requested this ahead of time, and we received a room that was the closest you could be to the beach and the adult pool too.
Our favorite locals were Jamie and Diego who worked outside the lobby area and will set up any excursions you want to do. If you go to a time share presentation next door, you will get great discounts off some excursions. If you really don't want to get a timeshare, then just learn how to say no-lots of times. I think these are worth the freebies! You usually get free meals and drinks, view a nice property, and get really good deals on things you were going to pay to do anyway.
Jamie and Diego were also great at advising us on places to shop and dine when we went into town one day, the even made dinner reservations for us. Thanks again guys!
Hotel Pro's: Excellent price, would definitely stay here again. Great family resort too with the kids pools that have big slides. Several pools, restaurants, huge outdoor theatre that shows movies and also has live shows, bars -even a swim up bar. There is a big scuba shop and a pier that some of the snorkel cruises and scuba boats pick you up at, which is nicer than having to go somewhere else to catch a boat.
Con's: A lot of the food didn't have great flavor and at night you had to be dressed up nice and have reservations for all places but the main restaurant. We didn't bring dressy clothes-after all we were on a beach vacation. We never did get to eat at the oriental restaurant, because it was already booked up the whole week. The only other issue was our checkout; our return flight wasn't til 4pm, so we asked for a late checkout (like 1pm or 2pm), we were told this would be fine, but were also told to ask again on our checkout morning. That morning they said no, that we could only leave our bags at the front desk and take a shower in a hospitality room. We didn't feel comfortable leaving our bags out so we didn't use their hospitality room.

Room Tip: Ask for the closest to beach and bottom floor room.
