“Great for Families or large groups”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

We have stayed at the Residencias Reef Condos two times now, and would definitely go back again. The corner 3 bedroom/ 3 bath unit is perfect for several couples or a family. There are huge sliding glass doors on two sides and the view is breathtaking. There aren't many "beaches" in Cozumel and San Francisco beach is one of the few. The only drawback is that you will need to wear water shoes if you get in the water in front of the condo. There is a lot of coral, but on the plus side, that means a lot of fish to look at when you snorkel. The kitchen is huge and has everything you could possibly need. We stopped by the grocery store (Mega) on the way in and got picked up snacks, drinks and breakfast food. Veronica is the housekeeper (and cook if you arrange that with her). She also found us the most amazing masseuse who came to the condo and gave us all 90 minute massages! I have had dozens of massages and Isabelle is one of the very best. She even used hot stones and we all felt wonderful afterwards. There are beach restaurants a short walk from the condo. The kids (and adults) liked playing on the water trampoline and climbing structures out in the ocean. There is also a great restaurant on the beach a few miles to the right when you exit the condo complex by car. It's called Albertos and they even let you pick your fish from a platter of fresh fish caught that day. It's not fancy-the tables are plastic- but it's great to eat a wonderful dinner with your feet in the sand a few steps from the water, tiki torches lighting the area. Another great place to eat that we stumbled on was the Mission in town-very reasonably priced. There is a restaurant above the Museum overlooking the ocean in town. They have really good breakfast. You will see mostly locals there.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have the best view and larger patios.

We just got back from our first trip to Cozumel and I am so glad we found Residencias Reef and Unit 8340. LOVED everything about RR and our unit, which was in Bldg 4.

The grounds are well maintained, the location is so good, and the pool is a great amenity. We swam at then end of each day which was so refreshing after our salt and sand island adventures.

Staff are highly visible and there is 24-hour security. We enjoyed listening to the nightly music from the resort next door. It added to the ambiance when we were on the beach watching the sunset.

A car is a must if you like to explore as we do. Parking was easy and right next to our complex.

The solarium on top of the building was a great unexpected bonus. We loved the open air shower up there to rinse off the sand at the end of the day. Best view from a shower ever!

I loved our unit. We had breakfast on the patio every morning since we just could not get enough of that gorgeous view. It was great listening to the tropical birds greet the morning. Perfect island breeze, too, made keeping the patio door open enjoyable until it became too hot. A/C is good and everything in this unit was well maintained and comfortable. I highly recommend Residencia Reef as well as Unit 8340. (we booked through VRBO...here's the link http://www.vrbo.com/197461)

Loved Residencias Reef and 8220 is very cute. I think it's important to note that the pools are definitely not heated or at least they weren't when we were there. It was so cold that my son could not stay in for more than a half hour. We loved the maid, the tub on the balcony, the grounds, the washer/dryer (even though they were tiny). We ate twice at the taco stand out on the highway and it was pretty good. My husband tried to get food next door at Carlos N Charlie's but it was wall to wall cruise ship people. The beach is BEAUTIFUL and the grounds are too. I would definitely rent this unit again, even if its a long way from town. We probably wouldn't go in April again though as it wasn't warm enough for us.

Very Happy with our stay in Unit 6240 at Residencias Reef! Clean, super bright, nice furniture, super comfy bedding. The kitchen had everything - we cooked breakfast, packed lunch for the pool and beach area, and then went out for dinner. Loved the pools and beach - no crowds, lots of chairs, so clean! (even the bathrooms by pool were really nice!). A bit out of town, but worth it to be away from the cruise crowds. The outdoor deck of this condo was HUGE. What a view (wish I was drinking my morning coffee sitting there right now!). The staff was really nice, great ,maid service (she even folded my load of laundry) and the grounds were well maintained.

review of Residencia Reef Condo # 8150, Bldg # 4
The grounds of the condo complex are very well maintained. Throughout the day friendly staff can be seen tending to the well manicured grounds, looking after the pool, etc. The condo has its own private sandy beach and there are padded loungers on the beach and at each of the two pools. The condo has its own rinse tank, which I observed was emptied and refilled daily. There is ample free parking and security is present 24/7. The condo is at km marker 14 (8.4 miles), so it is an expensive taxi ride to town (150 pesos or $12 each way). As you can rent a car for $12-13 per day, car rental was the option we chose (National requires you to take bogus insurance @ $12/da; however, Avis has no such requirement, but make sure to use a CC with CDW coverage).

Condo 8150 (http://www.vrbo.com/254133) is a ground floor condo located in building # 4 and faces one of the pools and the Caribbean beyond. There is a lovely patio with table & 2 chairs, fan, awning, and outdoor lighting so it can be enjoyed day or night. The condo is well appointed and has every amenity. To name just a few: king bed, huge bathroom, washer & dryer, automatic dishwasher, full fridge & stove, microwave, blender, toaster, (no toaster oven), coffee drip, 40" flat screen TV, satellite (though the 4 major network are not available), dining table & chairs for 6, comfortable sofa, Vonage phone for free calls to Canada and the US, free wifi, in-room safe, etc. You will want for nothing in this condo. And the owner Ionel/John is a pleasure to deal with. A few days after our arrival he called to ask if everything was to our liking and said to call him if we needed anything. Housekeeping is available for $35 a visit, but as the condo includes a broom as well as a washer and dryer, who needs housekeeping. You will not regret renting this condo !

Nearby:
Next door to the north is an all inclusive hotel with a dock and its own dive shop. If you dive with another dive shop, the hotel supposedly charges $3/day for pickup, but I was never charged during my 2 week stay. Eating in the hotel restaurant is ridiculously expensive - set price of $60 for dinner and $45 for lunch. There is a Carlos & Charlie's Beach Club next door to the south that serves up standard beach fair. Between km marker 7 & 8 is Gustos, a new restaurant that serves some decent Mexican food (see my review). Other than those options, it is 14 km to town where the selection of restaurants is endless. In the condo are directions to the 2 major grocery stores, Mega and Chadraui, where you can stock up on all your food, liquor, and other needs. These stores are like a Walmart Supercentre. Make sure to pick up toilet paper as only 2 rolls were provided for our 2 week stay. And pick up a bottle of Microdyn or Bacdyn if you are planning on eating any fruit or vegetables. Remember, bacteria on the peel can be transferred to the peeled fruit by your hands or knife - and that includes the fresh limes for your margaritas.

The Beach is awesome the outdoor environment could not ask for anything more. We had issues with the cleanliness of this unit. The maids can only work with what they are given by the owners and these owners need to pull up their socks. We own vacation property and realize how hard it is to up keep a property...The sheets were worse for wear...torn and bleach stained, there was mold in the hallway of the unit and the dust on the carpets well we stuffed them in a closet. Management tried to help and actually took photos of the place...hope they do something as the rest of this condo unit is beautiful and we are coming back next year.
