Close to the museum and the Forum shopping center at Calle 8 Norte and 5 Av Nte. Located just a block off the waterfront on a quiet street, la Candela has 10 or so tables under cover with additional outdoor seating. Service is friendly and helpful. Food was excellent, Yucatan style. Don't expect American Mexican fare.

We found this wonderful restaurant by accident as we were just walking through Cozumel. We were looking for a local eating place. Ok, All I can say is I can NEVER eat Mexi-American food again. Why can't this be duplicated in the USA. This place was fabulous. Our dishes were the fish tacos, plentiful portions, chicken fajita's and beans and rice. The best definitely seek this one out again.

We came across this place as we were wondering around the back streets one day. We walked in there and sat down. As we sat there we saw that there was local business people out on lunch and they were ordering the special so my wife asked the waiter about it. They had three things to choice from and my wife took peanut chicken that came with rice and beans and I took the peppered pork with potatoes and veggies. Both meals were a knock out and the best part was the mojitos my wife had. There was a young man making these mojitos he took his time in making them and they were out of this world. Try this place you won't be disappointed.

La Candela is a mainstay of local families. They offer breakfast and lunch (which, in Cozumel, extends to 6PM). Prices are reasonable. They offer fish and shrimp grilled, with garlic, or marinated in achiote and bitter orange juice and wrapped in a banana leaf, along with many other specialties. At lunch, they have family-style "comida corrida" offerings that are different every day. The mamey pie is superb.

Great place for local menu which typically is about $5-$8. Didn't order off the menu, asked for the local menu daily special instead.

Cheap, but very tasty food.

Definitely recommend!!!
