“Home cookin' Veracruz style”
Reviewed December 9, 2011

We visit El Moro every time we are in Cozumel. The people there seem to remember us (or are very good at welcomes) and are very friendly. Service is great. The food is Mexican - Veracruz style. We often have fish in that style (with onions, tomatoes, red peppers, garlic, and sometimes a mild cheese) and it is great. Margaritas are good, as well. I've had fish filet with garlic and butter that were excellent. The fish is always fresh (as with most places in Cozumel). The atmosphere is home style for sure - kitchen tables and chairs. And, it's not too easy to find. But it's really worth the visit.

“Real Mexican food in real Mexican environment”
Reviewed December 5, 2011

We heard of this place from a dive shop owner in Boulder CO. It's definitely not someplace we would have found on our own, situated as it is in the back streets of San Miguel, away from the crowds and vendors and tourist fare areas. It caters to dive shop groups in Cozumel, as can be seen from the pictures and stickers. They have English menus, but they lack descriptions so you'll need to ask for details. Our group went primarily for the mole. Conveniently there was a mole and white rice appetizer so we could start our with a mole kick and go from there. Their mole was delicious! Nice and dark and rich with a bit of a kick and some nice sweetness. Excellent texture, too. Their salsas were also good, a pico de gallo, but with a different taste than some on the island. I chose chicken mole enchiladas, delicious. The munchkin had fajitas, man, Mexican cooks can grill! Very very good food here. Also at our table, pescado Veracruz style, with a saucy red sauce of onions and tomatoes and chilis, and "shrimp on a wire" which is a giant skewer of fabulously grilled (again!) shrimp with tocino (Mexican style bacon) and onion and pepper. Very good! Also loved the refried beans that came with entrees. Such good flavor and texture. Ask your taxi driver, and be prepared to walk out to the main drag (calle 0 or Benito Torrez) to find a taxi (it's only a couple of blocks, through a non-tourist focused, local style neighborhood).

“Hard to find, but oh so worth it!!”
Reviewed November 26, 2011

Service that is hard to beat. Mole enchilada's that are impossible to beat. My husband and I were there last year, and he insisted we return on our own. It isn't easy to find, but be patient. Once you find it, you won't be sorry! Good food, sincerely wonderful service, and great margaritas! What else do you need?

“Do NOT miss this restaurant!”
Reviewed November 26, 2011

Fantastic! I can't say enough great things about this restaurant. The mole and salsa are the best in Cozumel - yum! And the service was great. Our waiter served us with a smile and made us feel at home. We couldn't get enough of this place and ended up sitting outside waiting for them to open at 11am, so we could take lunch to the airport. Do not miss this place.

“A Must Visit in Cozumel”
Reviewed November 19, 2011

How is this place not in the top 10 restaurants to visit while in Cozumel? We have been going here for 20 years and have never been disappointed. The food is always wonderful, but what brings us back over and over is Ray. He always warmly welcomes us back and makes us feel like we are family. We were here for 2 weeks this time and came to El Moro twice. I just had to have the Swaziland chicken enchiladas both times as I enjoyed them so much the first time. The margaritas are some of the best we have had also. If you have room, the lime soup is excellent! Would encourage anyone visiting the island to give El Moro a try. You won't be sorry. (Don't be surprised when your cab pulls up in the middle of a residential area.)
