We stayed her one night just thinking it would be a place to crash so we could hit the ruins early the next day and we ended up not wanting to leave. It was a nice, quiet, pretty, relaxing spot. The location was perfect. We met our private ruins guide, which the front desk help us get, in the lobby and it was a 2 minute walk to ruins. We had a private bungalow room, it was clean, large enough for us, and had a great classic feel.

We went to the planetarium at night and saw a show about the Mayan history and actually learned a lot that made our tour of the ruins the next day even better.

The location of the hotel is really close to the ruins which allows you to go in from a private entrance, and since the site opens at 8am you get to tour CI alone! I have managed to get a few pictures with just my family and the pyramid at the background (no tourists in the background) Plus we had a wonderful guide 'tortuga' - he was awesome.
Back at the hotel - I was really looking forward to stay in this hotel, after reading that Grace Kelly was there, Placido Domingo, Jennifer Lopez.....it really gave the romantic spot! But I felt like the place is not really well kept. There is a lot of potential but I kind of had the vibe that they don't care enough for the tourist. This is what we have, take it or leave, kind of attitude.
The gardens, pool and the birds add to the nice atmosphere of CI. And walking along the gardens with my daughter, we saw a lot of different birds and reptiles. They also have a really great show at the Planetarium, not to be missed. Not included in the price though....you have to pay extra.
We had paid for a suite with a jacuzzi that did not work. We couldn't even fill up the bath, as the water was going downwith a closed tap. The sink was leaking, so there was water everywere on the floor. The food at the buffet, was horrible. First of all they need to something for the bbq area, all the smoke comes in the tourists that are trying to eat their lunch. We stayed there for 3 nights, the buffet was always the same. I am sorry but it was tasteless. The dancers.....omg, they were really not enjoying what they were doing! And the lady by the coffee....its like we are disturbing her when we asked for a coffee, plus she gave us a rude look. The guys at the restaurant in the evening are ok though. They are very helpful.
All in all, i expected that when we say hola/hello or whatever, at least we could have a reply!

We stayed for one night. The location is awesome, perfect to get into the park before the crowds arrive from cancun. We were there at 8am and done by 11.30, just as it started to get really busy.

The rooms are fine but a little dated and the beds were a little soft. But nothing to be too concerned about. Food was good but slightly pricey, but to be expected given the location.

Overall, we would recommend

We just upgraded our rooms with brand new, high efficiency, eco, air conditioning units. New Flat TV's and new beds. This was taking place while you were with us!
We look forward to your return!

Everyone working here was warm and welcoming, and we had a very enjoyable stay (1 night). As a bonus we were upgraded to a suite, which was just lovely. Breakfast in the garden was gorgeous and the setting was perfect. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to friends. Just be aware the hotel doesn't provide any filtered or purified water without charge - but this is a minor thing, and didn't affect a great mini break at one of the most amazing sites in Mexico.

I was with my husband at the Mayaland Hotel and Bungalows.

Well, I have to start this review with the pros, I mean, this hotel is just like in paradise. The landscape is really dreamlike. Beautiful gardens, the birds, the pools, the views with the Mayan archaeological zone, just a few step away from the hotel.

I am Mexican, and I know, that we are well known as very friendly people, but I must say that the staff at the Mayaland Hotel (and also everywhere else in Yucatan) were extremely friendly, helpful and warm. They made us feel very welcome and happy.

Now I have to mention a couple of things, that were not so nice, and I hope, that my comments can be used by the hotel-staff in order to improve these details.

We payed for a superior room. When we came to the hotel, they told us, that we´d got an upgrade to a suite without extra charge. That seemed to be very nice, but I must say that the beds in the room were really hard, the air-conditioning-machine did not work right, so we had a very tough night, the heat can be really bad (30-40 degrees Celsius). We stayed just one night at the hotel, but I can not imagine staying longer under this circumstances.

I am surprised by your comment on the air conditioning equipment in your room, FOR ALL OUR AIR C UNITS ARE BRAND NEW... ALL OF THEM. We changed every single one less than 30 days ago. When were you with us?

We want you to be not just happy, but VERY HAPPY with your experience amongst us, to EXCEED YOUR EXPECTATIONS. Please let us know when we can be of service again. Safe Travels !

The good:
* Fantastic location right at the entrance to the park. It is possible to see structures within Chichen Itza from the hotel.
* Peaceful location amongst trees with lots of birds
* Rooms in the main building have beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows
* Historic and stylish building
* Inexpensive

The bad:
* The bathroom was a bit smelly
* The rooms are quite basic, with old televisions and beds. The beds in particular could do with an upgrade.

Conclusion:
I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who was staying in Chichen Itza. It has a sister hotel located effectively on the same grounds, but this hotel was cheaper and probably a better deal overall.

Our Air conditioners are all brand new (last 30 days). Are beds are new most rooms (none are over 18 months old). When where you with us? Is this a late posting to an earlier visit?
Gracias.

The location of this hotel is very lovely and has beautiful gardens and great food BUT they will try to rip you off with what they charge for the room! We arrived without a booking and asked if they had a room available. I think they saw dollar signs over our heads because they showed us to an average room and wanted $200 for it. We said no thank you, we would try else where and immediately the price went down to $100! You have been warned.

The hotel is old so expect the bathroom to have "old" taps with a shower head over the bath etc.... but other than that the rest of the hotel is great and the gardens and wild life are beautiful. If you get it at a good price I would recommend it but do not overpay.

Room Tip: negotiate price!

What an inappropriate and offensive comment! This venerable hotel does NOT "try to rip off" anybody. We have different rates for different rooms.... all very clearly defined everywhere we post offerings. There may have been a language barrier in an attempt to sell you an up grade. But never what you mention.
