“Enriched our Chichen Itza visit tremendously”
Reviewed September 28, 2012

The Mayaland Hotel is over 90 years old which is evident in its location and layout but it has been well maintained and is comfortable. It really blends into its surroundings and has a natural feel to it. We arrived on a Tuesday morning and left late Wednesday afternoon. While there we walked through the ruins for 3 hours each day, swam in the hotel pool, and ate two breakfasts and two lunches at the hotel. I recommend the full breakfast over the continental and recommend the a la carte restaurant lunch over the buffet. Our Standard room had two double beds, a modern bathroom and a large deck. There was a tremendous lightening and thunderstorm the night we were there, a truly natural 'sight and sound' show! We loved it.

We booked 2 "Superior Rooms" through the Mayaland website and were pleasantly surprised to be assigned a bungalow that shared a nice pool with 2 other bungalows. We had a tall palapa roof (with thatched ceiling inside), double beds with mosquito nets, A/C, and a nice porch with a Mayan hammock. The room was plenty large and the bathroom was quite big with a huge tub. We had access to the usual Mayaland amenities, including the great grounds and the private entrance to Chichen Itza. It was a very pleasant and relaxing stay.

On the negative side, the restaurant was mediocre and overpriced for both breakfast and supper.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our rooms were beautiful and had everything necessary. The grounds are wonderful, from the Lobby you can look at the Observatory of Chichen Itza. The location of the hotel was just perfect. Highly recommended!

Thank you for staying at the world's premier hotel inside an archeological park... and it's first !
Yes, The Mayaland Hotel and Bungalows is about to complete it's first century of service. Six generations of Barbachano family members devoting full time to keep improving a world landmark
and keeping it's surroundings in a pristine, respectful perspective around one of the Wonders of the New World, just steps from our doorway!

We look forward to hosting you and your family again. Until then, Safe and happy travels!

Positive points: Location and Facilities: swimming pools, rooms and restaurant.

Negative points: No internet in the room (I had to go to the lobby). 2. The hotel is located +/-3 kilometers from from Chichen Itza town in the middle of the forest. So for having dinner you have two options: you must take a very dark way in order to go to the town 3km away; or you have dinner in the restaurant of the hotel which has obviously higher prices.

Thank you for your wonderful comment! We are working, as I write this, on having free wi fi ALL OVER OUR GARDENS and in every single room. Quite a challenge for our provider's engineers since we are in a tropical environment and in Chichen Itza, when it rains, it pours!!! We have lost signal in various other attempts. We are now grounding to the water table every single outlet !

As for location... we are in the center of the park. Amidst the temples! Yes, Piste, our closest town, is 3 Km away. And yes, you can take a cab for a few pesos. And yes, Piste has lots of eating experiences (we have one of our other restaurants there)... but none compare! We pride ourselves in serving the best culinary experience in the area for a very reasonable price (our most expensive entry, a fillet Mignon, sells for less than USD $22.- !). For almost a century we have been serving great meals. Fantastic Yucatecan and Mexican cuisine as well as... well ... fillet Mignon.

Mayaland is fantastic. We were booked into a superior room in the main building overlooking the gardens and jungle with a massive veranda. In the morning we were woken by the sounds of the jungle birds- magical. Breakfast was served on the terrace and was excellent. It has beautiful grounds and pool, and could not be closer to the ruins. They organised a first-class guide for us, then after 3 hours spent looking around Chichen Itza, we came back to the hotel for refreshing drinks and then a fantastic Buffet lunch. Just fantastic- the whole experience could not have been bettered.

The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Our rooms were beautiful and had everything necessary. The restaurant was on the pricey side, but offered Mexican cuisine with a gourmet twist. The location of the hotel- right next to the ruins- was just perfect. Highly recommended!
