We took the Chichen Itza deluxe tour which included deluxe bus with breakfast on board (ham and cheese baguette, oj and a muffin). Pick up was at 7:00 at the hotel to Xel-Ha where you switch buses depending in where you go. Our guides Enrique and Alex where very knowledgeable and passionate about the history and their Mayan ancestry. You will be given hearing devices so you will hear your guide even if you are not next to him. There are so many incredible things about the place (architecture, acoustics, astronomical) that having such knowledgeable guides was a real plus. We got about an hour after the tour to explore on our own before heading to Valladolid and a cenote before hand. You will have a very good lunch at a local restaurant (buffet style) although take into account that the lunch will be between 16:00 and 17:00 so if you know you'll get hungry from walking make sure you bring something to eat after Chichen Itza. The food at the restaurant is local, not extremely spicy and quite good. The way back was perfect for the siesta, and we got back to our hotel at Playacar after 8 in the evening, tired but enchanted from our day!

People may suggest going solo or with a smaller group, but I found this tour, that was with a large group to be perfect. Everyone was provided with a listening device, so that you didn't have to crowed the tour guide. The restaurant following the cenote, after the ruins was outstanding. Bus was comfortable with two restrooms. We booked the deluxe tour, and I definitely would recommend !

We took the tour to Chichen Itza with Xichen and I have to say they are a very professional operation. In particular, our guide Reuben was excellent and very engaging. He explained and briefed us on the history of Chichen Itza all the way from Cancun to Chichen Itza!

The only reasons why this tour didn't get 5 stars was the stopover at the "Mayan cooperative" for lunch and souvenir shopping. I understand that every tour in the world does this but still it was a bit of a tourist trap and we stayed there for a little bit too long.

My husband and I went on the tour to Chichen Itza. It's an all day tour with long bus rides. We took the upgraded tour with the air conditioned bus and meals/drinks were provided. The restaurant food was a little different, but it's the native food and there was a wide selection. DO THE UPGRADED TOUR, it's worth it!
Our tour guide did an EXCELLENT job. He spoke English well, knew the history and had so much passion about what he did that my husband and I were so impressed with him. He even had a few of his own theory's.

Be prepared for mosquitoes! Take good walking shoes, a little backpack and sunscreen with bug repellant.
