“Charming hotel in a lovely setting”
Reviewed March 12, 2014

We spent one night here before exploring Chichen Itza early next morning before the crowds and the heat. It is the perfect place for this trip, beautiful gardens teeming with birds, a swimming pool (which an unexpected thunderstorm prevented us from using), lovely rooms, delightful staff and the most delicious food, exquisitely presented. The service was faultless, the manager most helpful. Highly recommended.

Charming hacienda located right by the gates to Chichen Itza. Beautiful grounds to relax in and a lovely terrace where we enjoyed a delicious dinner overlooking the formal gardens. What is perfect here is that it is 5 minutes walk to the temples of Chitchen Itza so you can be in there at 8am and avoid the crowds that arrive on coaches later in the day!!
Perfect!

We were continually impressed with the service. The staff was attentive and observant, but unobtrusive. The food was delicious. There are no tvs -and wifi is available, but not in the rooms. I feel this contributed to the beauty of the setting. If you are looking for more lively entertainment there are other establishments within easy walking distance. We really enjoyed the garden, restaurant, pool, live music, and birdwatching. The food was creative, fresh, and always done perfectly, really some of the best I have had in Mexico.

Hacienda Chichen is beautiful: not luxurious in a decadent corporate sense but luxurious in history, culture, nature and tranquility. The walk to Chichen Itza is very pleasant (300 meters).

My only complaint is that bottled water is very expensive. Bring some with you, and enjoy this place.

Location is very handy for the archaeological site and we were able to come and go during the day. Life is easier after the hordes of Cancun bus parties leave! Hotel bedrooms are basic but clean. Big drawback was no room safe. Also no wifi unless you stood about at reception. Most staff were nice but the guy on reception was rude to us and was reluctant to hand out the wifi password. Food at lunch and dinner was very good. Can't understand how this place can be a 5 star. Also, the air conditioning was incredibly noisy, and we had to switch off the ancient fridge in the room as the noise from it drove us mad!

Room Tip: They have suites which hopefully are better than the basic rooms.

Thank you for your visit and to providing your feedback about our services. As you can read from our website, we have free internet access in certain areas of the main building. To be honest, it seems a bit strange for us to know that our receptionist was rude with you because of this situation when one of the many compliments we constantly receive comes from our hotel staff who are always nice and trying to do their best to please our guests but, we apologize if by some reason you felt offended. We truly value our customers and I assure you we are taking the necessary steps to improve our service and keep our high standards.

We look forward to continuing serving you.

If you would like to escape the wired world and technology, and relax for a couple of days, Hacienda Chichén is a fantastic choice. The fact that the rooms do not have internet access or TV allows you to forget about social networks and the rest of the world, and gives you the opportunity to really connect to the people you are travelling with, spending quality time with them and enjoying their company. I stayed in the hotel for two nights and it was a great place to have dinner and chat with a very special friend i hadn't seen for several months. The service is the hotel is excellent. The food is delicious, although i think it's a little bit pricey and would like them to offer more dining options than the sole restaurant they currently have. Overall, i would recommend this place and would stay there if i happen to visit Chichén Itzá again in the future.

Visiting the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza early in the morning before the heat of the day, whilst the sun is low in the sky, and most importantly, before the hordes from the Cancun tour buses arrive is the best way to have this once in a lifetime experience. To do this it is easiest to stay near the site. Hacienda Chichen is a five minute walk to the quieter south entrance which opens at 8.00am. It is also an amazing place to stay even if it were not next door to one of the wonders of the world. We ate a great dinner, excellent breakfast and fine lunch there; swam in the pool, swung in the hammocks and wandered the beautiful gardens. And they organised a guide to meet us at the hotel and take us around Chichen Itza for two hours. For about USD50.00. Once in a lifetime. If you can afford to do Chichen Itza this way… then do it.

What makes the hotel unique, is the serene private ambience that you can feel since the moment you are entering our property! You can enjoy not only its vast vegetation but also the history that evokes from our historical rooms, colonial chapel and stone arch! Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to serve you. We look forward to your next visits.

OK, I should qualify this: we ate here, but we did not stay here. I do not see a separate listing for their restaurant, so here we are. That said, all of us loved this place so much that if I do return to Chichen Itza and the Seven Wonders of the World Tourist Mall (Chichen Itza is a zoo, see our review for more), I will absolutely book a room here with no hesitation whatsoever, the biggest hazard likely to be no desire to ever leave.
After battling the vendors and tour bus crowds of Chichen Itza, we were seeking a respite from the noise and heat, preferably along with a little late lunch. Hacienda Chichen was the answer to our prayers. Beautiful, secluded, quiet, and serene, we dined on the veranda, overlooking lush beautiful gardens. The food was superb (Mayan pork, chicken mole, and Mayan soup), and the service was excellent. Prices came to about $20 US per person for lunch, drinks, appetizer, and tip.
We highly recommend Hacienda Chichen and look forward to our return.
