This place is vast....interesting but vast! We booked a coach tour from our hotel cost $58 - we were picked up from hotel (which was good as after a night out in Cancun my head was killing me and driving would have been out of the question). The bus trip was long and we did stop in too many places where all you could do was spent money of toot, lunch was included along with the cabaret (if you call the re-enactment of a human sacrifice entertainment while your eating your lunch?!). When we finally arrived it was very interesting and spread over a huge space - so make sure you take comfy shoes and a large bottle of water and if you don't have a guide pinch one - the ruins themselves are interesting but the knowledge of their purpose is shocking/interesting. And if you see people clapping by the pyramid don't judge as when you find out why - you'll be doing it too!
The paths are lined with local selling more toot - so if you like holiday toot you'll be over the moon and be warned when they say " I'll give it to you for one dollar, good price" they don't mean and American dollar they mean a Myan dollar of which the value changes from vendor to vendor. Worth seeing though - so go and enjoy.
