“Benefits of a tour”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

This place is vast....interesting but vast! We booked a coach tour from our hotel cost $58 - we were picked up from hotel (which was good as after a night out in Cancun my head was killing me and driving would have been out of the question). The bus trip was long and we did stop in too many places where all you could do was spent money of toot, lunch was included along with the cabaret (if you call the re-enactment of a human sacrifice entertainment while your eating your lunch?!). When we finally arrived it was very interesting and spread over a huge space - so make sure you take comfy shoes and a large bottle of water and if you don't have a guide pinch one - the ruins themselves are interesting but the knowledge of their purpose is shocking/interesting. And if you see people clapping by the pyramid don't judge as when you find out why - you'll be doing it too!
The paths are lined with local selling more toot - so if you like holiday toot you'll be over the moon and be warned when they say " I'll give it to you for one dollar, good price" they don't mean and American dollar they mean a Myan dollar of which the value changes from vendor to vendor. Worth seeing though - so go and enjoy.

took the all day trip with Victor as our guide. Very informative man and all in all a very good trip, but also a 13 hour day. I'm glad we went, but once was enough

“Don't miss out!”

If you have any sense of adventure at all or a desire for history, Chichen Itza is a must. Full of Mayan history and culture and just interesting as heck. We had a fantastic tour guide and had a wonderful day...despite the heat. When we had been there we were able to still climb the pyramid. I had been so excited to do that that I ran up the side lickety split. Coming down was another issue. Bit of a panic but made it down and don't regret going up one bit. It was a fantastic day and something you must experience at least once. It has been almost 10 years since we were there. We would go back again in a heartbeat.

“Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We went during the morning, before the tour buses arrived. We practically had the place all to ourselves! I was a little disappointed that the buildings cannot be entered, but I do understand that it's to better preserve this wonderful site. The surrounding town of Piste has many wonderful places to eat and friendly people!

We traveled to Cancun in November and visited this site. We did a tour trip and it was very informative and fun. The only disappoint, mention was we had paid extra for unlimited drinks and were disappointed in this. We were told not to announce to others that we had paid for this and it was extremely difficult to get a beer while we were on the trip. The ruins were totally amazing though and everyone should see them if they travel to the area! Lots of locals trying to sell souvenirs though!!!!
