We selected Puerto Medero on the recommendation of a couple we met at our hotel. They went on and on about how great it was, so we thought we'd give it a try. All I can say is this: even their glowing recommendation was an understatement: this restaurant is magnificent!
From the elegantly-dressed waiters (Francisco, our waiter, was the best we've had in years!), to the extensive menu of unique martinis (prepared tableside), to the elaborate and well-priced wine list (try the Argentinian Malbec), to the varied menu of seafood and steak, this restaurant is a "must" for anyone who savors great food and drink and appreciates attentive service. Our two main courses were the freshly-caught tuna and grouper, each prepared simply to bring out the natural taste of the fish. Portion sizes were such that we could have split an entree, but we're glad we didn't, as both dishes were so tasty. Dessert was a simple ice cream bombe, with one serving being enough for two people. The entire bill--cocktails, bottle of wine, appetizer, two entrees and dessert--came to $116 US, an amazing bargain for such a top tier restaurant.
Our only regret is that we did not return for a second evening!
Touristy Cancun is not necessarily a foodie haven and Puerto Madero is in the middle of the Hotel Zone. However, Puerto Madero was a definite highlight of our trip. Do yourself a favor and go to this restaurant--we travel frequently throughout the world and would rank Puerto Madero as among the best restaurants we've ever enjoyed.
