“Best hostel experience in Mexico.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2012

This hostel is great value for money. We stayed for 4 nights, and it was by far the best hostel we stayed at in Mexico. And travelling for a month we stayed in quite a few! We wished we could take it with us!
Seems some people expect far too much, as the cleanliness of the rooms, pool etc. was more than acceptable.
And the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Basic Youth Hostel/Hotel in Downtown Cancun.
I found it to be a Great Value for your money
Pros:
-Staff was friendly/Helpful
-Rooms and Common areas were clean and cleaned daily
-Great Location in Downtown Cancun (within walking distance to Bus Station,Supermarkets, Banks, Restaurants,Bars)
- Free Internet/Wifi
-Hot Water
- Very good price
-Rooms were well kept with fairly Comfortable beds (sheets,Towels provided)
-Lockers for your valuables

Cons:
Pool was kinda dirty
Lack of sitting options in Common areas

Overall I found this place very nice and much better than many other lodging options at that price range. Granted its no five star resort and NOT Beachfront but for sure a good option for those in need of a budget place to sleep in Cancun.

Room Tip: Dont stay here expecting Resort style service, Keep an open mind and spend more time Exploring the C...

I to can not understand the negative feedback. We have just got back from a great week in cancun.
All the staff were so helpfull, its a hostel all you want is a bed and a clean room and thats what we got.
I would stay again its much better than staying down in the hotel zone.

Have you been travelling and staying in many hostels? Well, I can tell you this place is safe, clean, and backpackers friendly. Yes, the staff is great. After my travels in Guatemala and Belize, this was the first place that had hot water, and yes, it was a very nice surprise. This place makes a fantastic stopover if you have to continue your travels after arriving to Cancun or if you are catching a flight back home. The ADO bus station is withing a walking distance. I will definitely return there and recommend this place to anyone.

I read some of these reviews and nearly didn't come here which I think is incredibly unfair on the hostel and the people who run it.

For anyone who is thinking of staying here, let me some it all up and put to bed any doubts.

First off, this is a HOSTEL, NOT a HOTEL. They were created for young travellers on a budget so that people then could have the choice of staying in places for less with less benefits. Or not. That's the key thing here, if you fancy a 5 star hotel with all the trimmings, expect to pay for it, likewise if you don't want to spend the extra the. Don't expect to get any more than what a hostel is.

Having said that, I am not saying that this should give hostel owners an excuse to skip basic things like clean linen (if at all - some don't even offer that and you have to ring your own, same with towels) and general safety etc. but that brings me onto this hostel. I really cannot understand the negative feedback:

This place is incredibly friendly, to the point where they are immediate with their efforts to answer yet queries and are pretty flexible with rules, for example if you want to carry on drinking outside after the midnight curfuw, as long as you keep it down and no-one is complaining they're happy to let it slide; however the rule is there to keep it quiet when it's late so as not to disturb guests either. It's actually very quiet compared to a lot of other hostels I've been to. They'll even join you for a drink when their shift finishes!

In terms of cleanliness, I can't fault it - they clean the rooms every day, wash and change the linen. This all smells fresh.

No problem at all with the water, it runs hot all day long. This is now the second time I've been here (I'm staying here at the moment by the way) and again, not a problem.

It's certainly one of the most secure hostels I've been to. For a start they have lockers which you don't get in all hostels, and they also provide sturdy padlocks, again a bonus. they are also very big lockers do you can fit pretty much any size backpack plus day bag etc in.

The pool is obviously going to get a bit scummy but as someone already stated they do clean it about every 3 days or so.

Someone also mentioned the bad breakfast. I don't know what planet some of these people are from - just to be clear people, hostels are not required to include breakfast, you are essentially paying for somewhere to lay your head, so if breakfast is included it is a lucky bonus. Some don't even have kitchens. This one does.

To clear some things up, no the dorms do not have air-conditioning and it does get hot at night. Thankfully, as with all things, if you want air-conditioning there are rooms here that have it, you just have to pay more. Remember, for these dorm rooms -which are very quirky by the way, all the beds are made out of logs etc, kind of like a beach hut - you are paying LESS THAN £5 PER NIGHT. It that respect, they provide a huge amount service, security, cleanliness and are there to help with queries 24 hours a day. They will even hand your washing back to you dried and folded for the equivalent of £2.25.

Honestly, I've stayed in a lot of hostels on my travels, and paid a lot more for a lot less, this is certainly up there with the best I've stayed in. If you want bland and expensive go to a hotel; if you want something with character I would definitely recommend here!

NIght desk man (?) maybe also the lame poolman who lies and is a xxxxer ! Rules only apply to guests - not to him or his deadbeat girlfriends. When he is not hanging on some skanky wench he attempts to woo any female traveler. Sleezy describes him also ! He tries to act like a manager yet has no intellect or understanding that guests pay for services and he should be there to accomodate them !!!

Pool was pretty green color...nice bacteria cultures for some bad experiment ! It took three days to find enough bleach and two hours of labor to better the situation !!

Management keeps him - for why ???

That loser is BAD FOR BUSINESS ! ! !

i USEDTO BRAG ABOUT THIS PLACE UNTILL THE LOSER POOLMAN SHOWED UP !!

Good PEOPLE I MET THERE FEEL THE SAME !!!!!

Best place near...Poc Na Hostel on the island of women !

I paid equivalent price for a private room w ensuite in the Hostel Catedral in Mexico City (USD$35) last week and while it was a smaller room & had no AC- it was much cleaner, more secure, more professionally run etc. This room is very basic and the shower is clean enough which is fine but it all feels (the bed & linen particularly) a bit skanky. The staff did give me a toilet seat (!) immediately upon request. Keen as to get out of here. Wouldn't recommend it and won't be back.
