Hyatt Zilara- excellent Hotel. Rooms all have Ocean view, we were on 5th Floor = perfect. Not sure I'd want a Swim Up Room though as you don't get such a good view and your little shared Pool is not private at all.
Room was great, huge Showers plus Jacuzzi too. Fully stocked Mini Bar.Food was superb. Do use the Restaurants ( don't forget long trousers ), Maria Marie / Asiana / Chefs Plate / Tapas / and the Italian in next door hotel .... All great. Try the Japanese in the Asiana too, where Chef puts on a Show as he cooks in front of you.
The Buffet restaurant ' Spice' range and quality of food was amazing.
Great Pool, ( very warm ), swim up Bar a little shady. Plenty of sun beds and Cabanas around the Pool and on the Beach, drinks brought to you.
Evening entertainment was a slight let down as featured a lot of dancing etc which you cannot see unless you occupy one of the very few front row seats. Crazy set up really.
Buses go by every few minutes, cheap too ( about 50p ) but to walk up to Señor Frogs / Coco Bongo only takes about 15 / 20 mins.
Beautiful beach and warm Ocean.
Spa is OK but not mixed.
Too tip, as you book in, Reception staff will try and 'up-sell' by upgrading you to a different room that's probably no better than the one you booked, don't fall for it - all the rooms are good !!
All in all a terrific Hotel, great staff, superb food and Sunshine too.

Based on our most recent visit, it is apparent that the Hyatt Zilara and its remarkable staff are committed to providing their guests with an overwhelmingly positive and memorable vacation experience. Not sure what some guests were referring to as far as being asked to write favorable reviews, because we did not see even a HINT of that going on and neither did any of the other guests we spoke to.

My wife and I have visited the Royal (now Hyatt Zilara) in Cancun and Playa DelCarmen for the past six consecutive years and recently stayed during the first week of March, 2014 in Suite 133, Swim-Up Premium right next to the Spa. After staying in other swim-up areas on the resort, we found this area to be our favorite since there are only four suites to the semi-private pool we had vs. seven in the other two areas. Additionally, there are four hydrotherapy pools directly outside the suites in the area I just described, which are open to everyone. It’s very convenient and relaxing especially when the sun starts to go down on the pool side or you just want to get a nice leg or back massage from the water jets! All we had to do was walk through our suite, out the front door and there they were in the middle of a very lush and serene garden.

Our room was immaculate as usual and the lovely Sara Flores promptly arrived each morning at the time we had requested when we checked in. My wife got a kick out of the towel animals Sara created each day and we certainly appreciated the attention she showed us - it was as if we were the only two guests she was responsible for. Thank you again so much Sara! Butler and Concierge service was very helpful. No problems whatsoever with the online check-in process and all personal requests were fulfilled

No complaints regarding the food, which was very good at all of the restaurants we ate at. Great new addition at Spice was the juice bar. A guest may pick out fresh fruits and/or vegetables and a gentleman makes it for you right there. Excellent idea!

The beach was pristine, no seaweed and the surf was pretty calm in comparison to prior years, which was great for jet skiing.

In terms of room service, minimal wait once you’ve placed your order and food arrived generally speaking within 25 minutes or so. And let’s not forget the “Magic Box”! If you’re unable to answer the door, your food will be placed in the box and a light will illuminate in your room to let you know the food is there!

The drinks were excellent, not watered down as some people may have mentioned in the past. Top shelf as well – Bombay Sapphire, Absolute, Grey Goose and the Johnny’s to name a few. I enjoyed the Superior beer, but they also have Dos X’s, Coors, Corona.

Entertainment each night is top-notch and the activities staff gets together with the guests for club visits as a group for those interested in dancing and additional partying.

Saving the best for last – the staff, the staff, the staff! Approximately 98% of the original Royal resort employees are still there which is outstanding. These people work so hard and take such pride in their job. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge and thank Mr. Alan DelBlanco, Operations Manager, for recognizing us in the lobby from the year before and personally taking the time to assist with our check in. Talk about making a guest feel valued! Another one of Hyatt Zilara’s “gems” is Ms. Monica Roberts, General Manager who additionally took the time out of her busy schedule to speak with me about our stay and asked for suggestions on what they could improve on. Our other Hyatt Zilara heroes include Albert, Guest Services who like ALL of the other Hyatt employees, ALWAYS had a smile on his face! See you soon Albert. And thank you also to Sergio (Spice/Pelicano’s), Noeya, Matthew, Gardelia, Ligia (lobby bar), Felias Marin, Ivan and Raphael (pool butlers for keeping our glasses clean and for engaging with their guests each day) along with pool/beach service employee ELOIESA! We were NEVER thirsty at the pool because of her attentiveness. An awful lot of areas for the pool/beach staff to cover, so staff additions to this area could be a consideration. Another nice new touch is that one of the chefs come around mid-morning with fresh fruit snacks. I would like to suggest that Hyatt also consider having someone come around again in the afternoon with some type of lunch snack - maybe pizza slices or mini sliders. Again, just a suggestion. We’ll be back soon Hyatt Zilara!

Let me begin with a pre-arrival caveat. There are two obvious sites through which to reserve a room here: the Hyatt Hotels site and the former owner's (Real Resorts) site masquerading as Hyatt (http://www.realresorts.com/Hotel-Hyatt-Zilara-Cancun/). I used the latter, but would recommend using the "genuine" site for the following reasons. When I booked through Real Resorts, I received a "confirmation" email with an error message which necessitated calling them and being transferred to "customer service" which appeared to be a related Mexican reservation system or service. They could not confirm my booking until I sent them a signed authorization for the credit card charge and a photocopy of an ID. After complying, I did get a final confirmation, but the reservation never appeared in the Hyatt main system. The Hyatt folks were very nice, but unable to locate the booking and gave me the email addresses for two persons purportedly at the Zilara itself who supposedly would be able to help me. Both of my emails to those persons went completely unanswered. Several phone calls later, "customer service" came up with a local reservation number which the main Hyatt system was again unable to recognize. I finally had to call the Zilara itself in Cancun directly to confirm that my booking really existed. It did and everything was fine upon arrival. I think I may have saved a few hundred dollars going through Real Resorts, but it sure wasn't worth the hassle. After arrival, there is little to complain about here. It is an absolutely lovely hotel with an excellent staff. Check-in was effortless and we were whisked to our room on the 8th floor which was huge, beautifully appointed and had a fabulous view of the beach and ocean. Everything visible was well maintained and spotless (a bit less so under the bed and furniture, but who is looking there besides me?). The bar and fridge were well stocked and the amenities plentiful. The pool was stunning with a comfortable water temperature. The beach was wide, clean, uncrowded with white sand and gentle waves. The ladies at the Spa were professional and provided very good massages near the beach with the sound of the waves and the sea breeze adding to the relaxation. Inside the Spa itself, try the massage with hot stones. By the beach and poolside, you are constantly offered something (be it a drink or fruit). My only quibble here was that the drinks were usually too sweet. We tried all the restaurants except Spice at least once and the clear winner was Pelicanos (for breakfast, lunch and dinner). Not only is it located by the pool and beach thus providing the best views, but it also supplied the best overall food. The Mexican, Asian and tapas restaurants were okay. The "gourmet" restaurant provided very good flavors, but overcooked the fish and pork. Only at Pelicanos was the food unpretentious and consistently tasty. All the restaurants had excellent attentive service with a smile, but special kudos must go to Juan Diego, Omar and Victor at Pelicanos. Have the "green juice" for breakfast. Overall a top notch resort. We would definitely return. Suggestions for improvement (to get 5 instead of 4.5): 1) eliminate the site masquerading as Hyatt or at least answer emails asking if it is legitimate, 2) kick the food up a notch or two and 3) stop the sales pitch for joining what is essentially the equivalent of a time share program (an annoyance not befitting a top class hotel).

Room Tip: Get a high floor to enjoy the exquisite views. The swim up suites are ground level - hence no view...

Zilara is the new Royal. It has changed ownership but much of the Royal's features and benefits are the same.

The menu has changed a bit. Some of my favourites are no longer on the menu but the food choices are good. The service has improved slightly. The previous service level was already high. The hostesses at the restaurants are more pleasant and cheerful that my previous visits.

This is a hotel in transition. There are several construction activities occurring in the hotel at all times. I think this will continue for a while. Please ask if the construction is completed before booking as I needed to change rooms during my stay due to construction.

If you like activities, there is a large selection of choices from bike tours to Pilates classes. Dana is the ultimate Pilates instructor. She is confident, talented and very friendly. Safety is very important to her when she is teaching her class. Martha the other instructor is also very good.

The Chef's plate is a special restaurant. It is not part of the regular all inclusive unless you are a member. This is a great dining experience. You can purchase the Chef's plate dining experience by contacting the front reception.

The 24 hour room service is the ultimate. Every selection on the menu is excellent.

The wine selection for house wine is fair. A few days before leaving, a guest at the hotel told me about a liquor store located next to the resort. Next time I will buy my own wine as the a la carte wine from the hotel are too expensive.

Room Tip: All rooms at the Zilara are great. You can ask for a higher floor to get a better view of the ocean...

Stayed at the Zilara in March this year for our honeymoon after a recommendation from a friend. Before travelling we were concerned with the takeover from the Hyatt group but from the minute we entered the reception area our minds were put at ease. A warm welcome with a glass of champagne and a very quick check in procedure.

The room we were given was immaculate with a king sized bed, Jacuzzi and separate bathroom with a huge shower. Not to mention a great sea view.

Hotel was spotless with a great team of domestic staff who were always busy cleaning the public areas and also the bedrooms.

The food was of a good standard with a variation throughout each of the restaurants. The breakfast was always the best meal of the day as it catered for everyone.

The show cooking in Asiana restaurant is a must see. The chefs are unbelievable, particularly Alex.

The staff. Each and every memeber of staff were a credit to the hotel and always provided a high standard of service. From Frankie at the poolside to Guadalupe in the lobby we were never short of a drink.

In the restaurants the staff assisted in every way they could, from Roberto's pleasant and cheery nature and Manolo's hard work and attention to detail you couldn't go wrong. Special thanks goes to Chuy for his brief Spanish lessons which helped us along the way.

The hotel is in an ideal location for the nightlife of Cancun and also the local shopping precinct La Isla. It is no more than a 15 minute walk to each but a trip on the local busses are a must.

We would have no hesitation in returning to the hotel or recommending to friends and family.

General info: We were at Hyatt Zilara from 03/11/14-03/15/14, this was our 5th time to Cancun in 9 years. We have stayed twice next door at the Gran Caribe and twice when it was The Royal. This was our first time since the switch to Hyatt.

Arrival: As soon as we arrived (12;00pm) we were treated like royalty with some of their champagne. My husband isn't a big fan of it, but they brought him over a beer from the bar. Check-in was quick and we were told it would be an hour for our room (625) to be ready. It was perfect for us since we weren't expecting to get our room until 3pm. We had lunch at Pelicanos and we were then given our key. We had to call concierge for our luggage twice, but not that big of a deal for us.

Room: Our room was amazing! Glad we upgraded to a higher floor. We love being up high, we had a clear view of the ocean and the entire pool area. I do recommend Hyatt do some upgrading on their mattress or sheets/comforter. They are old/very used (still have The Royal tag) and kind of lumpy. Adding a little color back to the bed would be nice instead of just plain white.

Food: The food has definitely been an upgrade from The Royal, it was way better than before and we loved everything! Sergio at Pelicanos is amazing and makes sure you are comfortable and enjoy your food. Love that they now have hot wings on their menu. Yummy!

Service: The service at all of the restaurants was top notch, everyone was very helpful. (I'm so bad with names!) The cleaning service needs a little help now, we never had our room cleaned by the designated time. One of the days it just wasn't cleaned at all until 10pm when we got in and I mentioned it to the person up front. They have cut back on their cleaning crew. When it was The Royal, we had 2 ladies cleaning our room at once and now it is only 1.

Pool: The pool is very spacious and very clean. Get a sunbed early (6am) by placing a magazine or anything on the bed. It will be waiting for you when you are ready to come down. Swim up bar is great and the 2 young men that were there are really fast and can make you anything you want. Pool service has slowed down quite a bit, they don't have many waiters so by the time they come back around we would just swim and get our own drinks. I think this may have to do with them now using disposable cups versus the nice/tall plastic cups that they had before. In my opinion when they used the plastic once before the waiters would come around more often to pick up cups (to clean/reuse) and now it doesn't really matter because they are disposable. Don't know if this is the case, but just my theory. If you have never been to The Royal before you won't notice a difference. Hyatt, please hire more staff for the pool area...The empty cups along the pool or even in the pool (after wind would blow them in) does not look like something a 5 star/diamond resort would have.

Shows: The shows are amazing, don't miss out!! I especially loved Mexican Fiesta night on Thursday. The resort really goes ALL out to make the ballroom look really nice! Food there was great and you get to try so many things. Churros, Crepes, Corn in cup w/chile, Flan and lots of other yummy things.

Spa: We enjoyed a couple's massage with Mariel and another nice lady. They were awesome like they have always been. We also enjoyed a foot massage at the Spa, definitely recommend it!

Entertainment staff: We need this back! There were 2 young guys doing the pool volley and beach volley but that's about it. We spent tons of time in the pool, so I know we just didn't miss the times. Never heard them announce the arts and crafts activities either.

Overall: This is an amazing resort with the best beach and views in Cancun. It is not The Royal anymore and I get that, so like I stated before if you have never been when it was The Royal then you won't notice a difference. The people, food, drinks are amazing and the little complaints we had will not stop me from going back (I may have to convince my husband though). :)
