“Unless you are vacationing with kids...look else where.”
Reviewed January 24, 2014

We were bumped from the Golden (Adult all inclusive) due to overbooking and we lied to about there being water damage. We received a king suite with a balcony jacuzzi which had a beautiful view of the lagoon at night, however it was directly above the adult only (lame) pool and the lights on the balcony were on a timer which turns off at 11:30p.m. The Great is definitely geared for families not for younger couples. Adult only bar and pool area shuts down at 6:00p.m.....WTH. The staff was friendly but somewhat of a language barrier, probably due to the variety of visitor nationalities. Unless you are taking younger kids 7-13 and want to spend yor time with other peoples kids as well I would recommend looking else where. The Golden crowd is mostly 50+ Americans and Canadians with better entertainment, food, and drinks....if you can actually get a room.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms give more privacy from "spectators" at the adult pool.

I stayed in the Great Parnassus for 2 weeks, and I can honesty say that I had the most amazing time and a I fail to see what people are complaining about! We had a lovely room which meant that we had a gorgeous sea view and a spacious room with the maids coming around every day. There is a good selection off food, Chinese, steak house, French restaurant, Italian and there was always the buffet if you fancied something quick. The staff bend over backwards to ensure that you have a brilliant holiday, always smiling and very helpful. The entertainment staff are brilliant (Luis, Javier, Alex, Lorena, David, Carlos & Angel) working very long hours and providing activities for all ages, and late in the evening for those that want to go out and enjoy the cancun nightlife they go to a different nightclub each day of the week and your guaranteed to have a good night. All in all I've had a the most amazing 2 weeks and met some amazing people and made some amazing memories. So if you want a relaxing holiday with plenty to do then I advise you to stay here. Thank you to all the staff at great parnassus for making us so welcome, we will definitely be returning!!

Got bumped to this hotel from the sister hotel which is adults only. Had an ocean front room which was beautiful. Hotel was clean but in need of some upgrades and repairs. Service was good but food left a lot to be desired. Same food in all dining areas just dressed differently. Would not return.

My Husband and I spent Christmas and the New Year here. We were transferred on arrival from The Golden Parnassus to the Great Parnassus as they were over booked when we arrived. Biggest mistake that we made was by agreeing to be transferred. If you have children, great, if not, you really don't want to stay there. We were promised upgrades if we moved and on arrival at the Great Parnassus we had to move rooms 4 times before we got a room without the noise of the generator from the hotel next door!. The Coffee Machine never turned up during our fortnight despite asking almost every day. The smell in the bathroom from the drains was nauseating and the shower was not working properly - some upgrade!!!. Every day we had to request towels as the maid would take the soiled but didn't have enough clean ones to replace them with. Funnily enough though, when it rained, there was plenty of towels to spread over the floor in the lobby to catch the rainwater from the leaking roof!. Entertainment was aimed mainly for the children and we ended up spending a lot of our time at the sister hotel - that was when you pick up the courtesy bus which seemed to run when someone was available to drive it and did not run to their said schedule. If we had eaten at the outside barbecue area, I am sure we would have suffered food poisoning as the one time we did try it our burgers were so undercooked that they went straight into the bin. This was watched by the Beverage Manager who approached us and apologised but said that they were severely understaffed. I could go on and on but people have to make their own minds up about this hotel but I would certainly not recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Stay on the beach side as high as you can go

Great hotel for the price!

We were able to get a room with the great view (odd number rooms on the higher floors are best: quieter and have a better view).

The food overall was very good too. Buffet was ok, but we had only breakfast in the buffet and still were able to find things we liked (like fresh fruit smoothies every day and eggs your style :) ). We really liked the restaurants, especially the French one - Michelle, and the fact that it was easy to get a table at any place without a reservation. Our favorite restaurants were Michelle, Big Ben, and Samurai.

Also, the entertainment staff was great (*Special thanks to Javier, Luis and David).
We tried to participate in most activities: beach volley, pool volley, water polo, karaoke, and went to all night shows.

Room Tip: odd number rooms on the higher floors are best: quieter and have a better view

Landed back in England this morning after two amazing weeks at this hotel!! Couldn't fault anything about my holiday!! Couldn't have asked for anything else! Hotel was spotlessly clean! Staff we're friendly and great at their jobs (especially entertainment team) entertainment all day and night was ace!! The choice of food was unreal!! People who have moaned about this hotel must have stayed in some luxurious places or are snobs. If you want to eat English breakfast or English food then stay England. The people over there can't help how rough the sea is or where the sunsets and rises! That's just nature!! Not their fault!! Will be definately going back to this hotel!!

We stayed here in January 2014 for almost 2 weeks. We were transferred here from their sister resort the Golden P after our roof leaked in our hotel room after the first night.
THE HOTEL IN GENERAL.
Multiple pools some of which were adult only. These are clean and shallow however they were not used much by anyone as they are much colder than the sea. The sea was red flagged every day as the surf was quite wild. It was warm but you could not swim in it really. You can always find a sun bed. We did see a lot for rain for the first three days or so. The roof leaks like a sieve and pool towels were placed all over the hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean. PLEASE NOTE if your room is not on the ocean front or on the entrance side of the hotel IT WILL SEE NO SUN ALL DAY!! This means 50% of the hotel will not see any direct sunlight to speak of! Check in was really very slow (1.5 hours).
The Food.
There are a handful of restaurants you can use here. The main buffet style restaurant is awful!!! For breakfast the eggs were OK as they are done to order. After that there was just of choice of bacon or sausages...never on the same day...and the bacon was well beyond crispy! it was almost reduced to a powder as it was so nuked! You could use the sausages as drum sticks they were so hard! No mushrooms, baked beans, hash browns or anything else you would normally see for an English Breakfast ever. Yes I know this is Mexico.
There is a very good selection of fresh fruit and lots and lots of chicken in various styles that pretty much nobody seems to eat!
There is an Italian style restaurant which is OK. There is a French Style restaurant which was better. A steak house, an American ish restaurant and a Chinese style one all of which are much better than the large buffet one but still only OK to be honest.
The Staff.
Oh dear! The whole place is under staffed. The few that are there with the exception of the odd one or two are in efficient, slow and not at all motivated. The service once again in the main restaurant is annoying and laughable!! Elsewhere it is better but never outstanding.
Summary.
Would we stay here again? No.
It could be so much better and its a shame.

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room at the front of the hotel facing the beach or on the entrance side if you...
