4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 4, 2013

Bit late writing this review but im sure its not changed that much ... had a brilliant time in the Great Parnassus . Great selection of restaurants and no reservations needed ... You can use restaurants in the golden parnassus too which is good for a change of scenery some nights , room service is also included in the all inclusive package ...

Always able to find a sun lounger by the pool and on the beach

Free shuttle bus to the sister hotel Golden Parnassus , you an use all bars entertainment and restaurants there ,....

There are better hotels in Cancun but this hotel has everything you need food is excellent , hotel is clean , friendly staff and its so easy to get into Cancun on the local buses ...

Trips -

Chichen Itza - pay the extra money and go with xperinces company , we went with a cheaper company and had to stop of at lots of shops enroute ...

xelha - Amazing place , beautiful and there is so much to do you really need all day there .. All inclusive there too ..

Isle of mujeres + Dolphin Swim - Beautiful island nice trip and great place to swim with the dolphins again all inclusive trip ..

Coco Bongo - book an all night ticket for this , stay all night , trust me you dont want to miss any of this fantastic show , it really is amazing !! All inclusive

Room Tip: request a sea view room

The hotel is about 20 minutes from the airport located in the quiet area of the hotel zone. Upon arrival, ask what kind of room you have and see if you can get a high floor for a better view. We were in 1133 and our balcony has a nice ocean view and is private. Ask for a room that ends in the 30's as they are closer to the ocean. The balcony is a good size with two chairs. We took the table from the room out there. There is also a room safe in the large closet in the bathroom. The bathroom is large and has a multi jet shower as well as handheld. There are double sinks as well and the toilet is in it's own room with a door. The water is safe to brush your teeth (purified). Not all rooms have a fridge, only the suites, so make good use of your ice bucket! There are ice machines everywhere. This is a family resort however you can find some quiet places for adults only if thats what you prefer. We liked the adult pool area. The pool is not large however there are two large jaccuzzi's which are warm but not hot so its refreshing. There is also a bar and they give out towels with your towel cards. The main pool is nice and has lots if seating. It is three pools, each separated by infinity walls. The entertainment staff offer several activities at the main pool and on the beach. Their cups are very small so bring your own. The Sister property is called Golden Parnassus and it's adult only. You can take a free shuttle every hour between 8am and 10pm and you have access to all the amenities. The Galleria (onsite shop) has clothing, snacks, souvenirs, hats, sunscreen...etc. there is also an on site drug store which is well equipped. Our king bedded room was bright, clean and comfortable. The beach is gorgeous, we came down at 9:45 am and there are lots of chairs. I don't see any reserved. The water is a spectacular blue and makes you want to jump in! We were only approached by vendors a couple of times, there were not many vendors around. There are a couple of servers around the beach that come around and take your drink orders. Manhattan, which is like a NY diner with Rueben and Club sandwiches was good. The salad bar is so fresh. We also ate at the Italian restaurant, Portifino's and it was really good. We typically ate lunch at Bora Bora, the poolside grill. They have wings, fries, nachos, chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs and calamari. Big Ben is the steakhouse and they serve prime rib, which was good. Samurai, the Japanese restaurant was great. The buffet is ok, nothing great. The fresh fruit and veggies are great but the food is mediocre. They have lots of selection but i find its been sitting or not much taste. Breakfast is the only decent meal on the buffet. Also, its extremely hot Inside. We ordered breakfast from room service. Each day it came on time if we pre ordered and if we called down, it took about 30 -40 minutes. Our shower stopped draining so we called the front desk and someone was there within 10 minutes to fix it. Everyday I stay here, I like it more. The service is pretty good however inconsistent. There are times we tipped for such good service as it was amazing. We never encountered any rude or unhelpful employees. There are days we didn't have hand towels in the room but we always had face cloths and towels! There is nightly entertainment which we didn't go to. They list what shows are on in the weekly schedule. There are several sets of elevators and they are small and slow. Reservations are not required for any of the restaurants we dined at. This worked out great. You don't have to dress up either but are not permitted to wear bathing suits. Only in the buffet can you wear your bathing suit/coverup. For Michelle's, long pants and closed shoes for men are required. Check in and out was very smooth and the didn't try to offer us upgrades for more money. You get your room keys, towel cards and room safe key. They don't take your credit card when you check in or a copy of your passport however, your passport is required when exchanging money.

O my God!!!! Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else. Our vacation at this hotel was 6 nights, first of all waited 3 hours for the crib to come to our room even thought I requested it when made reservations plus called ahead of time to remind them, room was falling apart, restroom smelled like sewer, no hot water most in day time, lamp broken, bed was making weird noises every time you moved in it. Cracks and mold everywhere, the hotel needs majos major renovations. Seems like they don't care about updating or fixing anything besides just making money. Elevator was broken 3 days we were there, had to use stairs with all 3 kids age 6 and under. Slippery everywhere we all had our share of falls, also no wheelchsir access to the beach nor to the kids club, really????? I had a stroller and I was not able to go with it in a lot of places, so if you have small children or wheelchair you can forget it. Also kids park is a joke and babysitting... I did not leave my kids there for a minute, its dirty, its very hot, let me mention under ground, nothing to do besides coloring for the kids, don't let the playground in the picture full you they don't let your kids on the wood playground its just for show. Staff also soooo rude, leave your 1$ bills at home its old school, you leave a 1$ bill or 2$ on the buffet table and you will get a baad look, they now expect $5 tip even at buffet dinning. Which they don't deserve because we had no silverware or napkins many times we had to steal from other tables or look for them, no waiter came to ask if you wanted anything to drink. Yet when you left the table they had a nerve to say 3.50$ tip that's it???? Also food was discusting. Same food every day, same leftover meat just added different sauces to it. Also don't be filled about the add where it says they have 7 restaurants. 1 buffet is open all day, 1 restaurant is for VIP only and in the week we were there it was closed the whole time, 3 other restaurants are open only for dinner in which one is adults only, 24hr self serve coffee does not count as a restaurant. Guy that worked outside stole my moms umbrella and gave it to someone that had a tip for him in his hand even thought my mom in law was still sitting under it, rude, rude, rude. I can go on and on, also not much to do at all, just walked around and sat by the pool or hit the beach not much activities. Will not stay here again. Not worth the $$$

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

Before my holiday I read every review on here and began getting very worried, as it began getting closer to the holiday more and more people were writting glad reviews and this is why after going I felt that I had to leave a comment. As many people have already said I can't believe I stayed in the same hotel as some of these people, we absolutely loved the hotel as did everybody else there that we spoke to. Some people said about the cleaniness yet there were always cleaners around, people cleaning the pool/pool area and just the hotel in general.

ROOMS.

We couldn't believe it when we walked in the our room, we were expecting an average sized room and were expected to have to share a double bed or two single beds. We walked in to two large double bed and a very spacious room, with a flat screen television. We had an oceon view room on the 9th floor which we couldn't have asked for any better it was lovely we had the perfect view, which was great in the morning to sit on the table and chairs and look out onto the beach. The bathroom was also a very good size with lots of storage space. The cleaners come around everyday although depending on their day off etc the times may vary but your room will always get made up.

FOOD. The buffet was good it had so many different options to choose from it would be highly unlikely that there would be nothing there that you like, we loved the hot pancakes with sauce for breakfast or the large selection of fruit.
Most lunches we got our food from by the pool therefore you don't need to get changed to go eat and go straight back around the pool this just had simple BBQ food such as chicken wings, steak baguettes, chips, burgers etc. If we didn't eat here we would usually go to the buffet to grab a quick lunch.
Dinner was lovely we absolutely loved the restaurants, it was also a good excuse to dress up nice in the evening. We were the 2 week so got to eat at every restaurant, there was no restaurant that we disliked and would not have eaten there food although some were better than others. The french restaurant Michelle was our favourite, the food, service everything here was just perfect, personally I loved the steak and also the moules. Unfortunately I ran out of time to have anything else on the menu. We also found Big Ben was one of our favourite restaurants which we tried the steak one night then the ribs another both we enjoyed and liked how the steak tasted so different to Michelle's but was still delicious although abit more fatty that Michelle's.The start combo is also a must have when you go to Big Ben's its delicious with a selection of foods including, chicken in a soy sause, onion rings, Nachos etc.
The Manhattan is like an American Diner, lovely food but it is also open throughout the night so anyone that gets hungry but doesn't want to ring room service due to less options or if you've just been out on the town and get back late, this option is perfect.

TIPS. The first few days we tipped everywhere we went although we realised our money was going down for to quickly and stopped abit. Every says tipping is such a major thing is Mexico although personally we were just as pleased with the service even when not tipping.

SERVICE. The service at the hotel was amazing, they couldn't have done more for you. At every restaurant they new exactly how to meet your needs, around the pool or in the bar you never have an empty cup there will event remember your drinks. We felt like royalty around the pool it was lush we didn't have to get up once to get a drink. We actually bought cups from the shop in the lobby and they would fill those up for us, we noticed alot of people doing this. The staff were constantly so polite and you can tell they really enjoy there jobs.

CHILDREN. Everyone made a massive fuss how there are children everyone shouting and screaming, this didn't bother us at all which proves it really wasn't that bad as were two young adults. Yes there were kids by the pool ofcrouse it's a family hotel but it was nothing what we expected all the children were well behaved and just enjoying themselves, maybe this is because alot of children were in the childrens pool or childrens club at the back on the hotel while we were there. We spent most of our time at the main pool we enjoyed listening to the music, watching the entertainment, aqua aerobics, waterpolo, tiquila volleyballs etc. Although some days we would also go up to the adult pool or the beach which you literally walk out onto from the pool. The adult pool is on the second floor and it's lovely, a completely different atmosphere to the other pool it's a very quiet relaxed atmosphere which 2 jacuzzi's, 1 swimming pool, plenty of chairs and great bar staff.

NIGHT TIME ENTERTAINMENT. Like other people have said there isn't very much hotel entertain all the time at nightime but that just depends on what type of person you are, it doesn't mean you need to be in bed by 9 oclock every night. The restaurants are open til late if you would like a late meal, there is atleast 1 event going on in the hotel every night whether that's the Micheal Jackson, Saturday night fever or Circus shows or Mr Parnassus or Cassino night in the Karaoke Bar, this is just a number of things that take place.
We spend almost every night in the Atlantic or Karaoke Bar. The Atlantic has a chilled out atmosphere, lots of seating, pool tables, music, space to dance and if you bring your own Ipod speakers you can play your own music. Some people would enjoy this others may find the atmosphere abit boring. The Atlantic is a smoking bar which is also adult only.
The Karaoke bar has it's good days and it's bad days, some nights its will be heaving which great music and a great atmosphere although others are quieter with a more chilled out atmosphere. It's not just contstant Karaoke which is good but don't froget it's not an adult only bar so you will get some children in there at the nightime.
Although if you wouldn't like any of thise then the party zone is only a 10 minute bus journey down the road. We know people that did this almost everynight. I definitely recommend going to check out the party area at some point, we started off at Carlos and Charlie's which was just hilarious it's only a bar but you have to check it out. We then went to Mandala Sweet Club and ofcourse Coco Bongo. There were all so different and that's what was exciting. Coco Bongo is a must do we watch a variety of shows some of which included Moulin Rouge and Michael Jackson, people were flying from the ceilings, confetti and balloons flying around, dance music and they even let us dance on the stange, control the cameras and music which was a once in a life time. We booked this with our rep it was called the 'TC Project' (Thomas Cook Project) but there's also many other packages you can book or even just go to one single place.

REPS. When you book into this hotel most people if not everyone will get a card about a meeting with the Rep the next morning. Alot of people don't bother going but i highly recommened going along, it's only about 20minutes but they'll give you any information on excursions and let you know the best ones, you then book it with them. We spoke to people who hadn't gone to the meeting and wished they had cause they didn't know much information on different excursions offered. If you don't have a Rep that's not problem as you with book excursions seperately next to the lobby or by the pool.

I apologise for such a long comment although I wanted to go into detail so people cause get an insight into what the hotel is really like. As I said the only down fall is the night time entertainment but that can be resolved by going downtown on a sort bus journsey which is 9 1/2 Pesos equalling to about 30p.

Hope this helps X

Room Tip: We had an Oceon view on the 9th floor which was perfect for us

My husband and i had a wonderful two week holiday here, we could not fault the great Parnassus hotel. The food was lovely in all the restaurant's, our favourite's were the french, italian, big ben, and the samurai. There was a very wide selection of food in Magnus, the buffet restaurant.I had a big birthday whilst on holiday and we had a meal in the italian restaurant, the waiter's decorated the restaurant with balloon's, confetti, etc, i also had a beautiful cake made for me, the service was outstanding, couldn't praise them enough. The room's were lovely, kept very clean and comfortable. All the staff were very pleasant, and helpful. The bar staff were excellent, alway's remembered what you drank, our favourite's were Roger and Edwardo at the adult pool bar, and Gloria our waitress who couldn't do enough for you. Definetly come back, and very good value for money.

We were a little apprehensive about going after reading some of the reviews. However, we had a lovely time. The food was surprisingly good and our son loved the activities, pools and water park. I myself absolutely loved the spa. My only complaint about the hotel was that the beds were not comfortable.

My wife and I just returned on April 11/13 from the Great Parnassus in Cancun.
The Food- lots of selection, lots of flavour. The buffet ( Magnus ) very large selection whether it's breakfast, lunch or supper. French restaurant (Michelle's) formal, so don't forget the dress clothes. The beef tenderloin was tender and flavourful. Steakhouse (Big Ben), steak had lots of flavour but the beef was a little chewy. Italian (Porto fino), ate here twice, very good. Japanese (Samurai), we found this food very salty. Mexican (Maguey), only open until 6pm, not located near the other restaurant. Taste food, worth a try.
Creperie, fresh donuts, waffles, ice cream plus an assortment of desserts, very very good.
Bora Bora, outside grill - chicken wings, a must!!!
Bars- nothing to get too excited about, but the best bar is Club Caribe(adult pool area). Atlantis Bar, very comfortable but too smokey.
The Entertainment- average.
Family based hotel. But, having the adult pool area (away from all the kids) was great to have. Very relaxing.
The hotel is located about 1/2 way down the hotel zone, quiet from the hustle and bustle. Km of beach to walk on either side.
One negative - the rooms should be equipped with fridges. The only way you can get water is through room service. Very inconvenient!!!
One positive- if you have a late flight, they have a hospitality room that can be used.
The Golden Parnassus is sister hotel and you can use only of the their services. Nice pool and very good food. About a 1/2 hour walk down the beach.

Overall, this was a very good hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms have a great view of the sea. Try to get on a higher floor, generators from the other hot...
