Our last trip to the Aqua was in August and we're headed back again next month. This will be our 10th stay at the hotel, and we've been fans since the first opening and the reopening after Hurricane Wilma. Many don't know the hotel was gutted during Hurricane Wilma with nothing but the concrete shell standing. Interesting fact, hotels on both sides were completely leveled and bulldozed after the storm, and only now has there been a Westin built on one side of the Aqua.
Everything in the Aqua is crisp, clean and new, and as you've read it has a spa vibe and you have to enjoy that vibe in order to enjoy your stay. It smells like a spa throughout, it looks like a spa and the music around the pool has a cool, relaxing vibe. May not work for everyone, but it's what we enjoy.
Staff is attentive and as helpful as any other 4 star hotel in Cancun. Food at the pool restaurant is good and we frequent it, but we generally go out for dinner and haven't dined in the other restaurants. They are high end, and generally a bit formal for our taste.
We've stayed in every room type available and we prefer the Aqua Suite (1200 sq. ft) over all others including the Presidential Suite, but even the ocean view rooms are nice with either balconies or a terrace.
There are multiple pools with different temps, depths and purposes. We prefer the pool that has a bar attached to it for obvious reasons. Beach area is great with beds, palapas and covered beds on multiple tiers leading to the sand.
This is a high end hotel for Cancun. They don't allow troublemakers, spring breakers or unescorted kids. There are families, but it's generally a late 20's to early 50's crowd.
I'll update after our Feb. stay.

Dear Karel Riha,
With great concern I have read your comment on the quality of the food in our hotel – which is normally very highly regarded by our guests and patrons. We have taken note on the quality of the pain au chocolat and croissants. We thank you for sharing this with us.

We have taken the opportunity of reviewing comments on another hotel where you have previously stayed and have noticed that you have found specific items overpriced.

We take this opportunity to wish you a prosperous year.

Our family of four recently returned from the Aqua Cancun. This is one of four different hotels we stayed at during our two week vacation in the Maya Riviera and we really enjoyed it. For starters, the hotel itslef is stunning. Anyone with an eye for design details will be very impressed with the beauty and creativity found throughout the hotel. Everything is just extremely well done. The rooms are very clean and have that hip and well done contemprary look and feel. They have electronic safes and iHome clocks. The room size is average - certainly not large but comfortable. We had two beds in the room which looked more like queens than doubles. Bathrooms very nice as well with separate bathtub and glass shower. We had a small, regular size balcony with two chairs. I don't think there is a room with a bad view in this hotel as every room seems to face the ocean and main pool area.
The hotel has this great "chill vibe" thing happening with cool music and wonderful scents in the main areas. The gym is well furnished with lots of equpment and looks and feels great. The spa is spectacular and super cool looking but costs $20 per day to visit and is for adults only.
The pool area is one of the nicest we have ever been to. It is a thing of beauty. A major plus to staying here in the winter is that at least one if not two of the pools are heated. This is a rarity for hotels in this part of Mexico (and throughout most of the Caribean for that matter) and pool temps do get surprisingly cold (ie. 71 - 78 degrees depending on weather, pool size etc...). Our kids had a blast going from one pool to the other. A special thanks to Ray at the pool area for his help in making us feel so welcome and comfortable.
The beach in front of the hotel has been restored with sand and is very soft and wide. The hotel was in the midst of restoring their own beach chair area while we were leaving last week. Water color of the ocean is beautiful with many shades of blue however the water does seem to be often be a bit rough. The lifeguards on the beach were asking people to move down the beach a few hundred yards to swim during the time we were there and it was quite wavey so not necessarliy the best if you have children but not sure how common this is or not for this part of cancun but I sense it may be.
Food was excellent. We had dinner one night at Michel Bernsteins in the hotel which was one of the best meals we had during our two week trip. The breakfast buffet at Siete was excellent as well and a great way to start the day. Check to see whether they offer a package that can include this in your rate.
Location is another real plus for this hotel as across the street from very large and fun outdoor mall with many restaurants and stores.
We left feeling exteremly pleased and happy with our stay at the Aqua and would definitely plan to stay there again when we are in the area.

I did a full inspection of this property as I am in the travel business. If you like ying/yang, feng shui, tai chi, aromatherapy and one of the best looking spas anywhere. This is it. Infinity pools, hidden gardens, sweat lodge huts this has it all. Mexico is finishing a major beach rebuilding so Right Now the beach is chewed with pipes and heavy equipment. Check when you book to see if they are finished. Had dinner in restaurant MB, an iron chef winner and she branded this in house restaurant. Best dinner anywhere, guaranteed.

From the moment of our arrival we were assured this hotel would be paradise. Greeted with cool towels to remove the weariness of the flight. A welcome refreshment was brought to us as we sat on comfortable sofas as the front desk prepared our check-in. Relaxing music softly played in the background as we inhaled the aroma therapy present throught this hotel. We had a room that was spacious to say the least, very clean. We selected one with a terrace, great view of tourquoise water and white sand beaches, not to mention the five different pools this hotel offers. It was like a Corolla commercial, only we were there in person.
Pick up your telephone and push-My Wish button..it will be granted. Nothing was out of their reach. You ask and you receive your request very timely.
Be prepared to be pampered. Staff will overwhelm you with hospitality. Explore entire hotel--there are areas secluded that are beyond belief.
Cuisine is 5-star. Even pool side. Take a drink--wade into a pool--smoke a cigar-whatever you want is OKay with them.
We have traveled worldwide and this hotel exceeded our expectations.
From service to securing trips in the surrounding area we highly using the conceierge service.
It doesn't get any better than this.

I loved this hotel. The staff is ultra-friendly, the service is fantastic and the rooms were beautiful. The restaurants for breakfast and dinner were just terrific. One big plus is the mall across the street--very convenient.

The beach there is not large, but it was nice to be able to go to the beach (a lot of Cancun beaches were lost in the hurricane a few years back) but their pool is enormous, perfectly clean and a real treat.

I've stayed in a few hotels in Cancun, but this is by far my favorite.

We made a reservation six months in advance to insure a good room. We selected a mid range room which was larger and a bit nicer than the others. The room also had a balcony looking out over the water.

This place has some pros:
The pool area is fantastic, the rooms are beautifully appointed and the staff (all kids) that dealt with us tried to be very helpful.

The cons:
When we arrived we were put on the sixth floor on the end. The room was very nice with a great view. As we started to unpack I heard this loud roar of equipment. I walked onto the balcony and looked down to the side. There was the roof top of all the restaurants with giant vent fans and compressors. But the real clincher was when I tried to take a shower and all that came out was scalding hot brown crud.

I went to the front desk and explained the problems and asked for another room. I was told that I would get an upgraded room the same size with breakfast. That sounded good. When we got to the room it was their smallest cheapest room and a breakfast would be better at a Holiday Inn. And when my wife tried to wash off in the tub orangey water would come out.

I went to the front desk the next morning and requested the room that I was paying for. They moved us (third room in 24 hours) to the third floor to a room of the type that we were paying for. And yes they put us near the restaurant mechanicals. We gave up.

An additional frustration with this whole process is that the staff had to go into an office and get permission from a person that apparently was too important to come out and apologize and make sure we were happy with the accommodation.
