“Relaxation!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

Recently spent 7 days at Live and it lived up to all the great reviews! The staff was extremely friendly and made the stay relaxing. Always seeming to know exactly what you wanted before you even ask. Dave at poolside was wonderful! Waiters, bartenders, hostess, maids....Everyone was never without smiles and willingness to do anything. Reviewers are right about entertainment....there really isn't much to do at night. The beach bar was by far are favorite spot and suppose to be open untill 10 but there were nights it closed at 6 .....some nights 8 .....so that was disappointing. Definitely geared more toward relaxation. Food was good, unfortunately drinks and snacks poolside left us too full for dinners most nights. But do go into the cafe in the gift shop the desserts at night were fabulous! We had 8 of us in our group and everyone agreed the only downside was nightlife. Met some great people and would definitely hope back!

Room Tip: Room was fabulous 1266 I believe...no elevators to get there that was a plus as others did say they...

The service was incredible- expedient, friendly, and very accomodating. Had extremely positive experiences with every staff member there- better than any cruise or resort I've ever been to. The pool bartenders, the roaming pool bar staff, and especially Vanessa and Esteban at the sushi bar- they all made you feel like a VIP.

The facilities were very clean and the views beautiful. Our only issue was the elevators- always at least one out of order. This is not a drunk and rowdy resort- even with it being child-free. Seems to lean toward the middle aged and retired demographic. However, our group (of late 20's to mid 30's) likes to drink and have fun and we didn't feel like we had to dial it back. The food was at least as good as other all-inclusives in the area. There were some great options at the extremely cool "hidden" Asian cuisine area, as well as room service.

We spent the extra money for the suite upgrade- definitely worth it alone and especially if you have a group- the living room area was a great hangout at night when we didn't feel like being at a bar or lounge area. With that upgrade came daily cabana rentals, which were $100 or so daily if you didn't have a suite. You do have to call the night before or right away in the morning to reserve one (either by the pools or down on the beach)- THIS WAS SO WORTH IT! We had 6 people total, and there was always 2-4 of us in the cabana- and you could gather other lounge chairs around. Oh, by the way, comes with daily 20 minute foot/calf massage, top shelf liquor access, and awesome views.

Don't bring snorkel gear- I knew better but did anyway. The beach is great on the resort, but you will see two things snorkeling- sand and water. The sand was very nice, very clean. The swim-up bar back by the poops was a blast, the fish tacos were awesome.

DO NOT GO TO THE LIGHT/FIRE SHOW ON THE BEACH! Big waste of time, plus it sounded like the people up front were getting misted with the paint-thinner type stuff the performers used with their show. We left in the middle of the show, along with a lot of other guests.

The staff at this resort obviously takes pride in their jobs and it shows. Everything was always clean, everyone friendly. We literally were never told "no"! TIp them well- they deserve it. I would definitely return.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floors have a tremendous view.

4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2014

We stayed at Live Aqua March 23-29, 2014. This review is based only on our experience; yours may be different. As a point of reference, we are a couple in our mid-50's; our vacation experiences are many all-inclusive resorts throughout Mexico and the Caribbean, as well as several Caribbean cruises. We consider ourselves to be fairly easy to please and our vacations are typically for relaxing, with some exploration activities sometimes thrown in.

We booked this trip through Funjet, flying on Frontier out of St. Louis. We booked Deluxe Ocean Front Value Package and requested a king bed if available. We arrived at the Cancun airport early, a little after 9 am. Quick trip through customs/immigration, onto the Lomas shuttle van, and two stops later we were unloading at LA (about 10:15 am). As expected, our room was not ready, nor was a king bed available; we were told to check back at 1:30. No upgrade was offered, nor did we request one. After a brief review of the resort facilities and the offer to set through their vacation property presentation the next day, we were offered the spa or restroom to change clothes. We were in resort-mode by 11 am. We checked back for our room at 1:15; it was ready and we headed to room 8021 on the 8th of 9 floors (toward the right end of the resort if looking at the beach).

The room was two double beds; not huge, but more than adequate. There was a arm chair with ottoman, desk, two side chairs, adequate dresser with built-in refrigerator/mini-bar, flat-screen tv, aromatherapy burner, i-pod alarm clock, electronic safe, iron/ironing board, large closet with shelves/drawers, robes, rubber flip-flops, beach bag. The bathroom had separate shower and tub, soaps/lotions/shampoo/conditioner, scale, lighted magnifying mirror, and a large open storage shelf under the sink. The shower design was one minor irritation; it seemed impossible the close the door in any way that would not allow water to leak out. The shower itself had plenty of hot water and water pressure. Aromatherapy oil could be ordered by completing a form. Turndown service was supposed to happen from 5-9 pm; one night we had none, one night they did not disturb us as we had hung out our sleeping (do not disturb) tag. We never received any rice designs on our bed; but we had not indicated we were celebrating any special events.

Food ranged from average (buffets) to very good. We utilized the following restaurants and bars:
Siete: we ate breakfast buffet here most days. As with most buffets, most of the mass-prepared food was cold unless it had just been put out. Service was very good. Out waiter David recognized us and tried to help me with my Spanish; and Oscar ordered the Big Foot Eggs for us and offered two smaller portions instead of one big one (as previous reviewers have mentioned, give these a try). We also ate at Siete two nights, ordering off the menu instead of eating buffet. The menu food was very good.
Azur: we ate buffet here for breakfast one morning; again pretty average buffet food. Also ate buffet lunch. Service good, view was wonderful.
MB: we ate dinner here two nights. Very good food and service. As others have noted, try the Cream of Habenero Soup appetizer--awesome. One night we waited about 20 minutes for a table, the other night we were seated right away.
Hidden Garden: we ate dinner here one night. Very good food and service. Interesting, fun setting as the restaurant is outside, hidden in a grove of trees/shrubbery.
Verenna: we ate lunch here one day. Completely open air, nice but small setting (we did have to wait about 20 minutes for a table). Pizza was good. Service was very slow, but we did realize that in addition to servicing the restaurant itself pizza was being ordered and served poolside.
Sea Corner: our favorite for lunch. Open air, breath-taking view of the beautiful Cancun ocean. Seafood tacos were very good, as was the popcorn shrimp/calamari. Seating area fairly small. We sometimes returned here late afternoon to have a drink. Service was good; we appreciated Myrna and Marisol who worked very hard and were always smiling.
Café inside the gift shop served good coffee, the same pastries available at the restaurants and ice cream (I think).
The bar outside MB and Siete was a gathering place in the evening before dinner. Egos Bar was a nice stop before retiring for the evening, with bartenders who worked very hard.

The pools were beautiful. Bar service around the pool/beach ranged from spotty some days to very good on others. We did not rent any beds or cabanas. The only other complaint I have about the resort is, as others have mentioned, the towel game. I have NEVER seen it taken to the level it was at this resort. In my opinion, it is because of limited shade (umbrellas and palapas); until that is addressed by the resort, I don't think it will change. While there are more than enough lounge chairs available, if you want chairs with shade you have to play the game. By 6 am, most are already reserved. My husband went down one morning at 4:30 am to find only two options of two chairs available with shade. It was very windy several days while we were here. Pool staff tried to prevent the umbrellas from being opened for a period of time one morning, but by about 10:30-11, that was a losing battle.

If you want a "club" or activity-based resort, chose some place other than LA. We enjoyed the music played throughout the day (which ranged from "spa" to a little modern pop), the aromatherapy throughout the resort (which we didn't find overwhelming at all), low key activities (we were provided a list of daily activities when we checked in; few announcements made throughout the day as to when any of them started). There was a beach party one evening and a pool-party (with music) another. We saw age-range from about mid-twenties to 70's; I would guess the majority were mid-30's to mid-50's. Overall, we enjoyed LA and would refer those looking for this type of vacation.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a great review. It is a pleasure for me to know that your experience at Live Aqua Cancun exceeded your expectations; our number one priority is to make every guest experience exceptional and unique as it can be, thank you for letting us know how memorable and special was your stay with us. We are striving to be the #1 hotel in Cancun and comments like yours have always been of great assistance in fulfilling this mission. I'm very grateful for your comments about the service provided by our staff; let me assure you that this kind of recognition has a very special meaning to us as a team.

Regarding the "towel game" at the pool area, I assure you that we are doing our best to discourage guests to reserve the chairs without use them for a long time. We started this week with some rules and our guests are not allowed to reserve the chairs, if we found things unattended for more than 30 minutes we will send it to our lost & found department.

Thank you for your recommendations, we are looking forward to having you as our guest again and make every effort to exceed your expectations.

Warmest regards,

We traveled as a group of twelve people in February, 2014. We arrived at the hotel around 1:00 and our rooms were not ready yet. We checked in and while some of the group was checking in we received hand massages which were wonderful. Ricardo was our bell boy who did his job with a smile and was very friendly! After we all checked in, we went down to Azur to each lunch. Food there is awesome, especially the guacamole and salsa. Miss it!! A couple of our favorite waiters at Azur were Guillermo and Christian who waited on our group for lunch and dinner. Great service!!
Then our rooms were ready. We had an ocean front, which had a beautiful view! Loved the room! Tub in the bathroom had jets and the shower was very roomy, stand up glass.

Beach:
We loved the beach! There was beach butler service but sometimes it was slow. We sat right near the bar so that wasn't an issue. Drinks were delicious with plenty of liquor. They will make them tall or put extra shot in if you ask. They had high end liquor, Grey Goose, Don Julio, Johnny Walker, etc. We loved the bartenders at the beach bar, especially Roger and Enrique!
Great personalities! Our favorite beach waiter was Jamie! He always had a good attitude and made me a special drink in a melon! He was a great waiter, always bringing drinks with a smile! Plenty of towels availabe, but if you need an umbrella get there early. They definitely are in demand!
Pool:
Pools were great, different temps in each one and very clean. We were told there are seven pools and the number several stands for seven continents I think? If you overlook them at night they are all a different color or shade. The restaurant Siete is also named for seven famous Mexicans and their pictures are on the columns in the restaurant.
Food:We had breakfast every morning at Siete. Oscar is the manager there and he will go out of his way to make sure you have everything you need and are happy!! Ask for the "Big Foot" breakfast. Enough for two! Not on menu but they will make it, tortillas with beef and chicken, beans, lettuce, tomatoes and salsa. Different and tasty! We did order room service one morning which was delicious and hot! Served by a waiter on a breakfast cart that opened into a table. We ate overlooking the sun and ocean!! All of the restaurants were great! Loved the little pizza restaurant for lunch and the Sea Corner was yummy also!!
We had dinner several times at MB and our the restaurant made our group a special dinner one night. Mario took care of our table, he is the Manager at the restaurant. He was very accommodating to everyone and always had a smile. Everyone from our group loved the Habanero soup! They are still talking about it! Sushi was very fresh and delicious also. Loved the workers there, very friendly! We also loved the cafe! We got cappuccinos there every day after lunch and they have delicious chocolate lollipops on a stick!
the only con I can think of is the bar at night with the music. They have techo playing and no live dj which we hated. The music is not dancible and they have a dj stand which they should utilize. It became old very fast. Need more night life. Two nights they did have music on the beach and at the pool for a special event, which we all enjoyed.
We LOVED the scents!! Miss them terribly! Made the place and our room smell lovely! Great touch!! Loved the spa! You get to use the facilities: Jacuzzi, foot tubs, sauna, etc. after or before your massage. We had a couple's massage and thoroughly enjoyed it!!
The management staff were wonderful! We had a few minor issues and they were right there to solve them! Eluid, head of reservations was wonderful. Lorena from Guest Services was extraordinary, checking in on a daily basis to make sure our vacation was was everything that we had expected. If we needed anything, and I mean anything, she tended to it and made it right. She was very friendly, pleasant and approachable. Catarina, one of the Pool Managers was also very helpful and pleasant. We loved all of the staff! We are planning a return trip for next year and can't wait to see everyone and enjoy the wonderful service!!

Room Tip: Higher floors have better view. Stay away from a room near the bar with music. We had friends stay n...

A beautiful resort, in a great location, and outstanding food in all the restaurants. The service is excellent throughout the hotel, and in particular a big thank you to chef Michael at Restaurante Siete, where the extraordinary breakfast buffet is served. He went out of his way to explain the ingredients and techniques of various dishes, and on our last day even prepared for us an extra portion of our favourite Habanero salsa to take home with us!
A great stay. Highly recommended.

We spent a very lovely time at this resort. This place is not particularly fancy, but it does aim to please.

We were warmly welcomed almost everywhere with an action of hand placing over the heart "In lak'ech"' a Mayan greeting and mantra that means, you are another me. Pretty, and it set the tone for the great service that followed at all the restaurants and bars.

We loved the wonderful new age music that played by the magnificent pool everyday (ha peace.... ), and the special BBQ, Paella lunch, also served poolside, yum.

Pool was amazing, perfect temperature, beautifully laid out, pictures don't do it justice... but if you want a chair in prime location with umbrella, be prepared to reserve your spot as early as 6 am! Not exaggerating here!

The beach was spectacular, so clean, virtually no debris nor seaweed, with ocean shades of sparkling blue, indigo, aqua colours, felt like we were swimming in a dream! Note that we lucked out with yellow flags for almost the whole time we were there. Apparently strong currents, and choppy water make red flags an almost constant thing around these parts.

We upgraded to an ocean front room, no regrets there. We thought the bed was uncomfortable though and also for some reason, sounds seemed to travel big time from the hallway, banging doors and voices....It made sleeping difficult on a few occasions.

Food favourite place was Hidden Garden. Too bad they didn't take reservations, we were only able to eat there once. Azur served some great lunches and varying menu at night which we liked. We weren't as impressed with the evening buffet nor MB, which was just ok. Enjoyed the ceviche at sea corner and the sushi as a pre-dinner snack.

Overall, we liked Live Aqua very much. Although we feel we received 5 star service, there wasn't enough variety in terms of food, and the building and rooms do show signs of age. Also, we were pretty disappointed with the prices of spa treatments... Given that the hotel is not shelling out anything for the typical entertainment offered at other hotels, we somehow expected spa treatments to be a little more accessible. That being said we did appreciate the free hand massage upon our arrival at the hotel. We would definitely consider coming back, since we enjoyed the overall hotel vibe. In lak'ech!

It was August 2013 when my husband and I and 7 of my friends started planning our Cancun trip. Lots of discussions on which hotel to select or should we go for all inclusive. I started reading reviews from orbitz and tripadvisor, By November 2013 we booked our trip. We chose March because that's my 27th wedding anniversary and one of my friends will be celebrating her golden year, not to mention that six of us had never been to Cancun. So I want to ensure our vacation will be special and memorable for reasons mentioned above. I started contacting the hotel and expressed how special this trip for the nine of us. Patricia Copeland from the concierge was quick to respond in my email and someone from the travel desk. whom I forgot her name. I apologize for that. Based on the reviews I've read MB restaurant received excellent reviews and that's where I want to celebrate my wedding anniversary. Therefore, I contacted the Chef from MB, Chef Eric, He immediately respond to my email, attaching every contact person from each restaurant at the hotel. I made arrangement with him for my anniversary and for my friend's b-day. On the day of my arrival, Chef Eric took time to meet me and my group inspite of his hectic schedule. Arrangements had been set for those two special occasions. Chef Eric made arrangement with Chef Alejandro at Hidden Garden for my friends b-day. On our arrival day I told Chef Eric that we have a 6:30AM pick up for our Chichen Itza tour, and if there's a way for him to arrange food to go. Sure enough that following day there were 8 bags lined up at the concierge table ready for us. The dinner at MB was simply superb. Chef Eric prepared a special menu which was not on the menu. He served us filet mignon and lobster. The habanero soup, dessert and wine pairing were PERFECT! Our server, Alejandro was attentive to our needs. The following night was my friends b-day. We went to Hidden Garden for dinner which has a different flair - Asian cuisine. Chef Alejandro prepared a 5 course meal for us. Another perfect meal!

During our trip my husband fell on the street and has a bad cut/wound on his knee. On our way to our room the cleaning people saw us and quickly asked if we need help. Of course, my husband being such a man that he is, he said, "No." Nevertheless, by the time we got to our room, our phone rang asking if he needed first aid treatment. My husband originally said no, however, the blood wouldn't stop. The first aid person came and assisted him. From that point on, every single day, the first aid person was cleaning his wound - kinda having a personal nurse.

The spa was another fabulous experience. Ambiance, aroma and service were great at a reasonable cost.

I asked the hotel for a special and memorable stay, and they delivered beyond my expectations. The staff were very friendly, accommodating and attentive. They made me feel at home but living in a lavish lifestyle. Other notable people worth mentioning were Gibron, our server from Azur, Fernando from Siete. This restaurant was buffet style, yet Fernando was so helpful and attentive. We don't need to get up anymore to get our food. He just did it for us. Estrella from EGOS was so nice, friendly and accommodating.

Overall. the whole experience with the hotel is simply DIVINE!
