My husband and I attended a wedding at the Gran Caribe resort from May 23 to May 27. It was with much trepidation that we were staying at this resort after reading all the trip advisor reviews. We had an ocean view suite. Yes, it does smell when you first open the door, but it is not mold that you smell. It is a damp smell. What do you expect going to a resort that the weather is 84 degrees and 70 % humidity. I brought along some Febreze and that helped a lot. Keep the balcony doors closed and the air conditioning on. The food was okay. But on their defense, they are feeding a lot of people with many different tastes. There was always something there to eat. Maria's food was good and very pleasant.
The hallways echo a lot and voices carry a long distance. The noise woke us up around 4 AM every morning when bus loads of young people came in from going to the clubs. This resort caters to the young and we are "young seniors" in our 60's. We have been coming to Cancun for 10 years and owners of a time-share at a resort that has won many accolades so this was a change for us. Glad we came and would recommend this resort for families. Just don't go during spring break.More
