We stayed at the GR Solaris from April 20th to 26th. We have been to Cancun five times previously, always all-inclusive at various resorts. Last year we stayed at the Royal Solaris and had a nice time, so we decided to try another Solaris resort.

The GR Solaris is a significant upgrade over the Royal Solaris in our opinion. At GR Solaris, each room has a fully stocked mini-bar with waters, beer, and assorted sodas that are replenished daily. We asked for more of certain items and they were happy to provide them. Another difference is the 24 hour room service. This was nice to have, and the food always arrived very quickly. The fajitas were my favorite. Also the deli had some nice choices and was open really late, until 6 am.

The food in the restaurants was pretty good. Breakfast was always very good, with plenty of fresh fruits, pastries, pancakes, waffles, made to order eggs/omelets etc. We usually enjoyed lunch outside by the pool at Rosmarinus. Our three year old daughter loved the made to order pasta. The fine dining restaurant Marco Polo was a nice experience, but reservations can be a little difficult to get. You have sign up for them in the morning before breakfast. Some of the best meals were the themed dinners such as the Brazilian Steakhouse night, so make sure you know when those are and don't miss out.

There were three pools. One with a swim up bar, which was also where the entertainment staff had activities during the day. The second pool was a little calmer. The third pool was a little separated from the other areas and was for adults only. We didn't spend any time there, but it seemed very quiet. There were always chairs available, but if you want one with an umbrella you have to get there a little early.

The beach was beautiful, very well kept up, and one of the main reasons we go to Cancun. The waves can be very rough, but this varies. One of the days the water was much calmer. Much like the pools, there were ample chairs but if you wanted one with some shade, you have to get out there fairly early.

There is a mini-club for kids with two small pools and an indoor area with lots of activities. Kids must be at least four to stay at the mini-club, which was unfortunate for us because our daughter is only three. They still let her play there, but we had to stay with her.

The shows put on by the entertainment staff in the evenings were quite good. Also there was lots of activity in the lobby bar at night, with karaoke, etc.

Overall we had a great time. We have stayed at other all-inclusives which could be considered nicer (which cost a lot more money), but I think you really get good value for your money at GR Solaris. We hope to go back next year!

1st time to Cancun, TOTALLY pleased with Hotel choice. GR Solaris was very nicely placed in regards to travel time from the airport and Aqua World Tours. Price point was on target. Drinks were made to be able to enjoy not just get falling down drunk. And the Rosmarinus restaurant was our absolute favorite, for almost all meals, while enjoying the BLUE BLUE BLUE (did I say BLUE) water and breezes! Will definitely be visiting again in the future.

This was our first trip to Cancun and certainly not our last one; we're already planning on gong next year!

We had heard mixed reviews before we left concerning the beaches in Cancun; some people told us that the water could be pretty rough, to the point where you could not swim. But to the contrary, we were in the water eveyr day and actually had a lot of fun in the waves.

As for the resort itself, we were veyr impressed. The resort is a smaller resort, but it was actually a nice change from the bigger resorts I have stayed at in the past.

And last but not least, the entertainment staff made our vacation a lot of fun! There was always something going on near the pool so you were never bored. Nahin and the rest of the staff, thanks for making our vacation the best one yet!

Room Tip: The rooms on both sides are excellent, but we wished we had book a room facing the ocean.

Went back to GR Solaris for two weeks this year,March 4th. "till the 19th. it was as great as the previous year.
We had a side room on the poolside which my wife didn't like, the staff gave us another room the next day with no problems, higher, closer to beach. Also sent up a food basket and champagne for our so-called troubles.
I can't over emphesize how wonderful the entire staff was, especially Luis at the lobby bar.
We are in our sixties and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anybody

Room Tip: Reserve way ahead of time, ask for the front facing the ocean, superior room. All rooms are good !

My husband and two kids 8 and 11 had a wonderful vacation here. There was plenty of food and most of it very good, especially breakfast. We did have a couple really good meals that is worth mentioning. I highly recommend Brazilian night at the Rosmarinus (reservation only that night) and Marco Polo (reservation every night) for French night...the filet mignon was excellent and loved the chocolate martini. They serve flaming coffee drinks everyday between 4 and 6 in the lobby...yummy. They have nightly shows and we tried to catch them all. They were all really good and if you are there on Saturday night, don't miss Michael Jackson. The beach is a short walk from the room. Our room was clean and comfortable and we had a beautiful view of the pools and ocean. This resort gives you a lot for your money. If you are looking for a good value then this is it. I would like to give special thanks to Jazmin in guest services. She is so very pleasant and she made sure that our needs were met.
We took a combo tour to the Tulum ruins and then to Xel Ha. We didn't have enough time at Xel-Ha. We stopped to drop off people at Xel ha, then we went on to Tulum and got there at about 10:30, then back on the bus at 12:30. We got to Xel Ha at about 1pm. We hardly had enough time to eat and do anything because we were told to meet back on the bus at 5pm, even though we sat there until 5:30 before leaving waiting for others to get showered after the park closed at 5pm. I really felt like I spent most of my day on the bus. Maybe other combo tours are better, but this one sucked. If you like to shop on vacation you can go to the flea markets or La Isla mall. Me and the kids swam with the Dolphins at the Aquarium. We got the advanced swim for $100 each and my husband took plenty of pictures. They took pictures too, but there was no hard sell to buy them. It might seem like a better deal to go to one of the parks or Isle of Majors, but you can't take your own pictures and expect to pay as much or more for the pictures as you did the swim.
Things that I would suggest you bring are some $1 bills for tips. Also, I would convert some money to Pesos to get the most out of your money. For example it is $1 to ride the public bus, but if you pay with Pesos it will equal about .70 cents. Don't forget strong sunscreen and hats and wear a swim shirt because the sunscreen will wash off. You might want to bring a couple insulated 24 oz. cups to take down to the beach. It isn't a long walk back to the pool bar, but it will save you a few trips. I also took a back pack for day excursions and a small soft sided cooler to pack some water bottles and pop from our room fridge. I took bug spray, but didn't need it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
