“Not in english”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

It's interesting that this museum popped up right next to the Royal Caribbean resort. It was full jungle before they put this museum here. Wife and daughter went and thought it was interesting despite not being in english

“Wow!”
Reviewed November 28, 2012

FInally, Cancun has added a truly cultural attraction with the new Mayan Museum. We were totally impressed by the three galleries they have with two permamenant expositions on the original treasures of Quintana Roo and the surrounding areas. It is a must see when you visit Cancun, located right on the main Blvd. right along side the Omni Cancun Hotel. Admission is only 57 pesos for adults, and was well worth it.

“Wonderful...but ...”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

We took our granddaughter to learn all about the Mayan culture as she has to write a report for her classmates and loved the museum but were disappointed that they didn't include English in the descriptions of the artifacts. Our granddaughter became bored quickly with us trying to guess what everything was or used for.

“Archaeology in the hotel zone”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

The recently opened Museo Maya de Cancun is well worth a visit. It costs 58 pesos per person (about $5) and has a nicely laid out outdoor section (signs in English and Spanish) with several interesting ruins including a small pyramid: alow 30minutes for a pleasant stroll under the tree canopy (but beware of mosquitoes), There is also a good exhibition hall with backgound to Mayan civilisation and development over its 2000+ year history until the Spanish conquest. Again, major signs are in both languages (although the English is in less easy to rea blue and requires stooping to tread it), although the individual artefacts such as vases, masks and pottery are only described in Spanish.

Easily accessibly by public bus from all the hotels, it is an ideal 1.5 to 2 hour diversion in the late afternoon (open until 7pm) or on a cloudy day..

“New Museum”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This museum had their grand opening the day we arrived. We waited a few days to go. It was a really nicely done arrangement. The inside exhibits had a lot of English explanations of the broader happenings, which helped alot. The outdoors exhibit was well landscaped and a very nice walk, as well as interesting ruins.
