“Great hotel and spa services good for a couple's weekend”
Reviewed July 14, 2014 via mobile

We stayed at nizuc for two nights for my birthday. The hotel is a year old, therefore the rooms are newish, modern, spacious and well taken care of.
This is a great hotel for couples and families as well. There activities for children.

The beach is very calm with almost no waves. There is an adult pool and beach area on the premises.

The spa was a little pricey but absolutely worth it. The hydro circuit is a must. The masseuses we had (Enrique ) was fantastic.

The food in the breakfast restaurant is ok nothing extraordinary. The Italian restaurant (terra Nostra) was very good.
We are DEFINITELY coming back.

My wife and I just stayed here for the second time in four months. We so fell in love with the place on our first trip that we were concerned that a second trip might not be as perfect, as it is often hard to duplicate perfection. They not only met our expectations but they exceeded them! Every restaurant provided service and food on par with any formal fine restaurant. The menus and mixed drinks are theme based upon the style of food at each individual restaurant. The wine lists are primarily the same but the selections are very well done. The main pool bar is as exceptional as the infinity pool itself. There are several pools but the infinity pool is our favorite as it has a view to die for with bar service in the pool. The other bars are on par with the quality and service of the pool bar - just no pool! The rooms are all suites and they are exceptional rooms. The room service is very personal as they provide daily chocolates, turn down service, bottled Fiji water and the occasional bubble bath lined with rose petals. The spa and gym are first class and I essentially had all of the equipment I needed for my daily 1.5 to 2 hour work-out. The concierge took care of all of our dinner reservations, wine tasting, sushi & tequila tasting, tours, cabs, information...etc. I highly recommend both the food tasting at the restaurant Ramona and the sushi-tequila tasting at the restaurant Indochine. The wine tasting and cheese plate with sommeliers Jonatan and Wakim (not sure of spelling) is another must! Everyone that works at Nizuc was wonderful but certain people just stood out as follows: Jonatan (sommelier), Wakim (sommelier), Luis (pool bartender), Saoul (server at Cafe de la Playa), Julio (manager at Romona), Hector (server at the pool) and Juan Pablo Rodriguez (room butler). We are already making plans for a return trip in December and we only left yesterday! This hotel is all about attention to detail!!!

My husband and I just returned from a 2 night, 3 day stay in Nizuc and absolutely LOVED the place. We only wish we could have stayed longer! This is the kind of place that Cancun needed. Lately all the 5 star hotels are opening farther away in the Mayan Riviera but not in Cancun. This is a true gem. We actually went to the Banyan Tree in Mayakoba for a couple of days first and then changed to Hotel Nizuc. Both were very nice and very different experiences.

From our arrival and until check out we received excellent service, I am very sorry to read different reviews below. Our experience was 5 star all the way. We stayed in an ocean suite in the main building, in the first floor with a big, lovely terrace (those in the 2nd floor have a much smaller terrace). We were very happy that we could walk mostly everywhere with no need to take a golf cart (except for their truly amazing spa and the italian restaurant). I would strongly advice you try to stay in the main building (although no kids are allowed).
The hotel is nicely divided in kid friendly and kid free area depending on how you are travelling, so you can still be on your honeymoon or adult only trip and enjoy it peacefully. Having said that, we also saw families having a great time with their kids. Apparently the kids club is really good.
The food in all the restaurants that we tried was delicious! We loved it!!! We went to La Punta twice, Ramona the mexican restaurant, Ni the preuvian restaurant, the pool area and breakfast and loved everything. I did not know that making it all inclusive is an option. That is probably a wise choice.
There are 4 swimming pools: The main one, an adult only pool, kid only pool, and one that is by the Italian restaurant, farther away from the main building and closer to the other villas. They are all black, quite sophisticated looking infinity pools.
The only down side that we experienced throughout our stay was that there was a big wedding group of 80 people being loud and rowdy in the main swimming pool.all 3 days, acting more like spring breakers than the tourist you would normally see at such a high-end hotel. True, we could have gone to a different swimming pool and the problem would have been solved, but we wanted to be in the main one because it is the biggest and nicest one.
I recommend this hotel for couples on their honeymoon or celebrating any special occasion, for friends travelling together and for families with kids. Next time I go back, I will be sure to ask if they have any big groups staying and if they do, I will just change my traveling dates.

Thank you Hotel Nizuc for making this vacation a memorable one. We will be back :)

Room Tip: Stay in an ocean villa, first floor so you can have the big terrace, and in the main building

As experienced travelers and lovers of great resorts, my wife and I came to Nizuc excited. Unfortunately, we left not only disappointed, but upset at the degree of terrible food and dishonest service we were faced with throughout our stay. First and foremost, we arrived at Cancun at 8:30 AM (Cancun time). We had called the day before to confirm that our all-inclusive package (at least $1000 more than the price you will be originally quoted on your invoice) would be available once we arrived at the hotel (around 9:00 AM) even though our room might not be ready (although our room was, in fact, ready at 10:00 AM). I was assured at that time that our all inclusive package would be active upon our arrival at the resort. Upon our actual arrival at Nizuc, we once again asked this specific question to the hotel staff (a desk manager named Ricardo), and we were told in no uncertain term that our all-inclusive package would be active and would cover meals from that moment through the course of our reservation.

We asked the same question on our last day. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 3PM. Check out time was 12PM. We asked Carmen, a concierge, whether or not our all inclusive package would include a lunch had at 12PM prior to leaving for the airport. Had we been told that it would note, we would have had breakfast prior to 12PM. Instead, Carmen told us that our lunch would be covered. It was only AFTER we ordered lunch, and our food and drinks had arrived, that we were told our package would not cover this meal. Despite all of this, we were told that the resort "would take care of this misunderstanding".

In fact, what happened was that JULIO [--], a Front Office Assistant Manager at Nizuc Resort, accosted my wife and I at the front desk, insisting that we had tried to cheat the hotel out of two meals. Mind you, out of a bill of over $3000 US dollars, we were now being publicly embarrassed over less than $152 US dollars. Julio [--] threatened that he would not allow us to leave the Nizuc resort (and therefore not allow us to leave Cancun on our flight) unless we paid then and there, regardless of being able to settle the issue with higher management or through legal dispute. After shouting at my wife, and making a point of accusing me of lying to him about our meals in the publicly open lobby, Julio [--] demanded that we pay for both of the meals discussed above despite the fact that we had been assured that our all inclusive package would cover these meals ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. Julio [--], at the Nizuc Resort, literally ruined what had already been a stress filled experience at the hotel.

All of this would be less memorable if Julio [--]'s food had not been unqualifiedly bland at every meal. You will have better Mexican food at Chili's, and while the breakfast buffet is good thanks to the sheer selection, it's all the basics that can't be screwed up. What you're left with, then, is bland, unseasoned food that will be difficult to choke down at any time of day. More difficult to choke down, however, is the treatment by staff members like Ricardo, Carmen, and Julio [--]. Apparently, Julio [--] of the Nizuc Resort believes this food is worth accosting guests as they are under the pressure of scheduled flights with angry shouting, threats, and bald-faced lies.

This experience not only ruined what might otherwise have been an enjoyable experience, but Julio [--] and the Nizuc Resort have made me seriously question whether or not I will ever visit Cancun again after their low quality food and dishonesty.

We stayed in early May for 5 days when the resort was at 40% capacity. As a result, we enjoyed not having to wait for anything. Service was truly top notch by almost every single staff member, approaching Asian hospitality. Mexican and Peruvian restaurants were excellent, with some of the best cuisine in Cancun. Asian restaurant was so-so. Tequila bar is expensive, but the views are outstanding and the drinks are excellent. Think of it this way: you're paying for the real estate as much as you're paying for the drink.

We never waited more than a couple of mins for a golf cart to take us from our room to the beach/pool/restaurants. The cart drivers were always super friendly and very helpful. The beach has pebbles, not powdery sand. While the ocean is really calm and shallow, there are patches of grass all over as it is adjacent to a mangrove. If you want the famous Cancun blue water, just take a 10-min taxi ride north to the public Delfines beach. The pool is large and very very nicely maintained. Easy to get a chair or cabana and easy to swim-up for a drink. Everything is super clean.

There were children in the resort and we were there with our 21-month old. No issues whatsoever. Our room was new, modern, and very spacious. Latest technologies like new-age fan, motorized shades, nespresso machine, and a samsung wireless speaker. Balcony overlooking the mangroves was a calming place to sit and talk.

Tips:
Always ask for a taxi, not a hotel car.
Restaurants will not serve men without closed shoes.
Room service food was very good.
Kid center is spacious, but only good for children 4+

Room Tip: They offer a stay 3 nights, get 1 free on their website, which makes the daily effective rate very c...

My wife and I spent five nights at Nizuc for our 10-year wedding anniversary in mid-June and it was wonderful. The rooms, restaurants and facilities are all beautiful and kept immaculately clean. The food at the various restaurants was very good in all instances (taste is relevant, but we visited from New York if that provides a point of reference). The breakfast buffet was extensive and stole the show.

Visiting Nizuc in the off-season was a coup. We literally almost had the place to ourselves (we were told capacity was at 12%). That meant we got our pick of whatever cabana we wanted at the pool, a perch overlooking the water, or on the beach. Service in all cases was immediate. The staff are all very friendly, and by the end of the trip we all knew each other by name and would share jokes. Oscar and Hector "the protector" were great and kept the pina coladas coming when we were on the beach, and Daniel and Alexander were good company in the bar over a pint or two during the World Cup matches (even as Mexico and Brazil tied).

Prices for food and drink are expensive but not outrageous (similar to Manhattan). Customs in New York said we were allowed to take one liter of spirits each through customs and that helped to keep the tab down somewhat. A 12.5% gratuity is included in all cases. We arranged for a taxi beforehand and it was a reasonable fare and about 15 minutes to the hotel.

Random note: in case someone cannot swim, the water is only about waist deep for about 100 yards out.

Reviews of any resort are bound to be mixed so we weren't totally sure what to expect, but I can honestly say this place exceeded every expectation. If we return to Cancun we'll be staying at Nizuc.

Room Tip: I wouldn't bother getting one of the rooms with the pool on the balcony. They property is so bea...

This is a great resort. We have been at other very nice resorts recently and there is something vastly different here. This resort has two things that are very hard to find together. 1st is such a nice beautiful property, but there are other beautiful properties. What makes this resort the absolute best is the people.
Every person , did I say EVERY person from the ft gate to the staff you pass on property to anyone anywhere you meet then will put their hand to their heart and say something in Spanish that means. Thank you from my heart for allowing us to serve you.

This is something from the owners down That is culture not a job requirement.

I wish to thank the owners and all staff for going above and beyond in the service experience for the property.

The food was extremely good, from the great Buffet breakfast to the very lovely speciality restaurants.

I would love to bragg on a few of the staff, but I would end up naming everyone on the payroll.

The beaches are beautiful and clean. I was pleasantly surprised to find out the adult beach allowed topless sun bathing.

I hope others who visit have the same experience we have had.
