As others writers have noted, the Nizuc is spectacularly beautiful, and in fact is probably one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at. Every single detail is perfect, from the way in which the beach towels are rolled, the way the towels are folded in your gorgeous room, to the public interiors. No detail is spared. As a contemporary design lover, the architecture is just breathtaking. It's clear that time, attention and money were lavished on this tranquil and serene resort. Gone were the loud and large extremes of Cancun, and peace and quiet ensued.
The staff is extremely attentive and friendly, and obviously well trained. Every single employee that passes you will say hello with their hand covering their heart, a sign of a genuine welcome. Nothing is a problem, just ask and it will be taken care of for you.
We also loved that it was only 10 minutes from the airport, although the car service arranged by the hotel was clearly way overpriced. I suggest you take your own taxi.
Our only gripes are minimal, but they did impact our thoughts a bit: The food, and especially the wine are very overpriced. While the restaurants, once again, are incredibly beautiful, the food is very good, not spectacular, but it is expensive. Other writers have noted that. Wine by the glass runs around US $16 per glass, too much for medium quality wine. Each restaurant has their own theme, and there is plenty to choose from, but nowhere we were able to find fresh salads or vegetables, which we enjoy at lunch. Lastly, every food item has a 12.9% service charge, and then a line for an additional tip. This is one of my pet peeves; I'd far prefer either a flat 20% service charge or just the option for your own tipping. Perhaps the only physical complaint I might have is that the lighting in the bathrooms is poor.
During our week long stay we were surprised we were never approached by any member of senior management to introduce themselves or inquire as to our visit. Considering the resort appeared to be less than half full, one might expect they would welcome your feedback.
We would choose this resort again if we choose to visit Cancun again, but perhaps better prepared for the expected costs.
