Tulum ruins ,did not enjoy ,went on a all day tour ,(ruins ) (atvs)(underground caverns,Xenotes)Enjoyed the atvs driving into the Xenotes (under ground caverns)but the Tulum ruins ,reminded me of a tourist destination with older people snapping pictures everywhere ,did not enjoy ,crowds of people everywhere ,did not enjoy and definetly would not go back !

Right now the streets are all dug up so a huge mess! But..... Lots of stores, restaurants, shops to grouse through. If you go as far as Lopez Portillo you will see Plaza 3000 where the locals shop and this is wonderful! Great shopping and food! Take the bus R-1 from hotel zone then walk the entire area. Catch the same bus to go back to the hotel zone.

This was our second visit. The area is rich in history, however with the wrong guide (Luis ) it was a disaster. He "ended" the tour about halfway thru the ruins (after telling us about his recent divorce). We took this tour several years ago and it was a totally different experience. Take water and a hat...

Travelers who only frequent the hotel zone are absolutely missing some of the best sights, food and authenticity of Cancun. Although the streets and shops are not all glass and chrome, the street dining (or up-scale dining) is fantastic; and the local flavor can't be beat. And best of all, it is absolutely safe!

Very Hot, take water and a hat, take your camera pictures are fabulous. More informative guide posts or park paid tour guides, would help, as bus tour guides skills varies.
