Loved this hotel. The beaches were white, the all inclusive food was amazing, they had at-night entertainment and it wasnt far from downtown Cancun at all. We had an absolute blast and loved every minute. How can you complain about a hotel that there is nothing to complain about? This place was off the hook and I would return in an absolute heartbeat.
This hotel is definatly not a 5 stars. Room are outdated. House wine is very bad and you can t even buy wine bottle at al carte restaurant. There are 3 a la carte restaurant and only one look like a restaurant and was good. One of them is a buffet at lunch... No snack bar or bar on the beach. Activities are so so. They are very good on cleaness and the staff is great.
Stayed at the Riu Cancun for 2 weeks in June 2013.
Location is brilliant - one of the closest hotels to the bars ( senior frogs, coco bongos) - only five minutes walk. The hotel is directly opposite a mall and a variety of shops. The mall further down the road (a short bus ride away) called La Isla was far better in my opinion and had more up market shops than then mall opposite the hotel. Downtown Cancun ( which has a Wall-mart) is just ten minutes bus ride away (take the suggested bus by the reps and then cross the road - don't pay locals waiting for tourists to direct you across a road).
The food and drinks in thee hotel were brilliant! The all you can eat restaurant is brilliant and has a wide variety of plain and exotic foods. The three specialty restaurants were Brazilian ( which was okay) and Japanese and a steakhouse. These were two of these best places I have ever eaten. The Japanese in particular was fantastic. You don't have to pay for these but you do have to book early (in the main lobby there's a designated desk). There were many places to get drinks from. The hotel rooms are stocked with four spirits and the fridge with bottled water (which you can take on excursions), lemonade, coke and beer. There is a 24 hour sports bar with food and drinks constantly provided. There are sandwiches and salad boxes which you can pick up early from here if you're going on excursions.
There are a variety of pools, jacuzzis and a sun terrace (took us a while to find it though), all of which are very nice. The hotel is directly on the beach. The beach is fantastic and gets better the further (right) you walk.
All in all this is a lovely hotel and the staff really couldn't work harder if they tried BUT it is a bit lively.
The hotel is not clean. There are stains in the sheets and the covers. The pool is not cleaned daily. There is alway a cloudy layer on top. The food was the same every day and leftovers from the day before was served in the cold section the next day. We had a flight delay of 2 hours at checkout we asked to leave at 1:30, but they wanted to charge us 60 dollars for any checkout after 12:30 no discussion. Disappointed with the Riu chain, won't be coming back.
Just got back from our first visit to cancun , Did our research before booking last september , read all the reviews carefully , then proceeded to book what i can only describe as the perfect two weeks all inclusive holiday we have ever had !
The hotel was just as described in the brochure , The staff were excellent and the food was lovely , with plenty of choice for all tastes .
Fortunately for us we chose two weeks when the hotel was reasonably quiet so we didnt have to fight for sun loungers etc
Tried both a la carte and steak night , and preferred a la carte so made two visits .
Rooms were slightly dated but cleaned thoroughly daily as was the rest of the hotel . Spoke to many people during the two weeks and didnt come across anyone with any thing negative to say about the hotel !
The beach was our favourite with its white sand and warm seawater ,
We have been told the hotel will close april 2014 for a 3 month re-furbishment , just hope they dont raise the prices because we are definately looking to return in 2015 .
ps Went to coco- bongo (v.i.p.) it was amazing
