“Where is the sun?????”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2003

I, like most folks that come to Cancun for vacation like to relax in the sun, take a nice dip in the pool and enjoy a few drinks with friends. Don't expect to have more then 4 hours of sun at the RIU per day, The building blocks the sun, WHAT, yes you heard me, crazy isn't it? I was with a group of 100 people and everyone express the same concern. OH, and the pool was unbearable!!!!!! Talk about COLD, Sienfeld is considering doing a special on SHRINKAGE at the RIU. Food was not all that, lots of better places to go, Our 100 folks won't be back.

The hotel grounds are beautiful and very well kept. The workers are very nice and friendly. My wife and I had a great time. It is located near the center of the strip. Our only complaint would be the quality of the food and drinks which we would rate as very average. Daily activities are fun. Probally not the best place to bring kids.

My friend and I accompanied by our 15 year old daughters stayed at the Riu November 14-17, 2003 and had a great time. The hotel has so much to offer you don't care if you leave. Several people have commented on the food and for an all inclusive, I'm not sure what they are looking for as we thought the food was excellent in the Don Juan dining room. If you miss the reservations for the Corazone, don't feel bad as we didn't think the food was that great in this diing room. The check-in went great, hotel was very clean, you felt like you were traveling first class. If you are seeing the sites, don't miss Isla Meujeres. Take the ferry ($3.50) at Puerto Juarez (after a $.60 bus ride) and enjoy the day. We rented mope heads and toured the island, swam at the north beach and had a great day. If you have time, watch for a restaurant called Casa O's as you are traveling south on the island almost to the south end of the island. It's got a view you can't beat and Pina Coladas that are out of this world. We'd do back to the Riu in a minute!

We were at the Riu from 11/8 to 11/15 and were very, very happy. We usually go to all inclusives (Breezes, Allegro, and Club Med), but have never been to a Riu. I must say that it was a huge resort which was a bit overwhelming for the first day or two, but we got used to it. The food was very good, but keep in mind that all the liquor is Mexico's own brand. The pool bar was teriffic as well as the bartenders in the bar. The resort was incredibly clean and we were on the 15th floor with an incredible view (we were able to change our room from the 6th floor to a higher floor between rooms 20-30 so our view was not obstructed since there is construction on either side). The staff were very nice about changing our room. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
A few things worth mentioning, we had no alarm clock in the room so you may want to bring one (some rooms had them) and there were no irons--you could borrow one from the hotel. The jungle/snorkeling tour was great as well as the Chitzeniza tour (but it is a long day). I would definitely recommend the Riu Cancun and would definitely stay at another Riu hotel in the future. We were so very impressed by this resort.

Our 3rd time in Cancun and it gets better each time. Riu Cancun met our expectations, food was good, people very friendly, accomodations excellent. The Mini-Club for kids was very enjoyable for our 5 year old nephew. They took very good care of him. The only problem is losing the sun at 2:30pm each day because of the shadows, so get out early.

Just got back last night and blown away is the first thing that comes to mind. The RIU Cancun was absolutely impressive in every aspect. I used travel express and they took care of everything, from getting to the hotel to booking some of the local tours. I suggest the jungle cruise/snorkeling tour -it was great. We had a room on the sixth floor overlooking the pools and grounds away from the construction and the view was wonderful. The room was immaculately clean and of course fully stocked. The food was good, but as mentioned I can clearly see how it would get a little old after more then four days. Breakfast was incredible. The thing that most impressed me was that the staff seemed genuinely happy at their jobs and went overboard to assist in any way.
I plan on going back next year and would easily stay at the RIU Cancun again.
