“Phenomenal Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 15, 2014

Everyone deserves to be pampered and treated like royalty and the royal service at Paradisus Resort in Cancun will not disappoint. The resort is reasonably priced and well worth the expense for the great atmosphere, food, and spa amenities the hotel provides. The beach is very inviting and there were very few peddlers. I would highly recommend this hotel to family and friends. We were initially a little disappointed with our room and the hotel very quickly accommodated us. We had a large ground floor room with a poor ocean view and some foot traffic. They accommodated us and moved us to a smaller room with a better view and more privacy so it worked out.

Had the perfect experience. Hotel is definitely 4 star. Clean ALL the time, the fragerance was wonderful. Didn't think I would notice a small thing like that. The staff was top-notch. They were there before you had a chance to ask for anything. They kept everything nice. A tip goes a long way. You felt like a super star. Of course, the scenery is amazing and the beach is God-sent! I would go again in a heart beat. They had shows every night and several restaurants to choose from. Food galore; drinks galore!

We had a great stay at the Paradisus in Cancun. The resort is beautiful. Rooms were clean and very nice. Food was great. The beach is beautiful and clean. Great and hardworking staff.
Useful tip(s): For the restaurants at the resort you will need to make a reservation day ahead and as early as possible in the morning. They get booked with reservation quickly.
Also if you are a beach person but like to have some shade I recommend you get up earlier to set under palapas otherwise you wont have place to hide from the sun on the beach.

This was our first vacation after a long time since we got married. In the midst of all the excitement of vacation, We were little worried about the quality of services for which we paid but I must say it was worth every penny we spent. "Paradisus Cancun" was beyond my expectations and staff here goes that extra mile to make your stay enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing. Some of the reviews I read complained about room location, AC and food quality etc. but I must tell you they were right on mark on everything. The food & drinks were fantastic. I enjoyed eating in all the restaurants Vento, Fuego, Bana, Market Grill, La perla , Naos etc. The staff here really works hard and were always making extra effort to please you. All the facilities like swimming pool, beach bar, rooms service deserve special mention. If you are a hard to please fussy traveler, you may try to find some faults but not me as it was one of the best vacations I had with my family after a long time. The rooms were very clean and all the rooms have spectacular views. I would definitely recommend this hotel to all my friends who are planning to visit Cancun. Thanks again for making my trip memorable.

Room Tip: 1) All the rooms have spectacular views due to it pyramid structure. Although higher level floors ma...

Paradisus(Melia) cancun has great restaurants that all family could enjoy. It is a large beach front resort with three pools and plenty of friendly staff. The down side of the some restaurants are that they take reservation only, and it was always booked or always left with awkward dinner time(10:30pm-11:30pm). All the bars are great and the staff always kept the room and bathrooms clean. The hotel is very well organized to accomodate different types of trip, whether it is business trip, family vacation and or adults only.

We spent a week here and thought the total package was really good. The restaurants, beach, pool and spa were all well above most places we have stayed at before.
The all inclusive package makes it easy to get by without having to sign for everything.
Remember to book your restaurant of choice at least a day in advance as the bookings go fast.

We stayed at this hotel during the second week of July, 2014. Family of 4, 2 adults and children aged 5 and 8, in a Family Concierge one bedroom suite with ocean view. This was our second time at the hotel (the first time the first week of July 2013), and both times we had a room at the 6th floor in the main pyramid (building 3)

Our vacation was increcible from start to finish. Booked transportation from airport to hotel and return with Cancun shuttle, VIP, and were greeted at the airport with a sign with our name. Did not have to share transportation with others, and also had 2 booster seats for children included. Distance from airport to hotel about 15 minutes, and because we had booked the transportation in advance we were at the hotel about 30 minutes after the plane had landed.

By choosing Family Concierge you get to check in at your own lounge, well air-conditioned and with plenty of refreshments at hand. We arrived a bit early, around 10.45 am. Check in is at 3 pm, but they checked us in (takes some time because they inform you about all your possibilities in eating and other activities). However, our room was not ready that early, and around 11.30 am they sent us down to the buffet restaurant (Naos) so that we could eat lunch while waiting for our room to be ready. After eating we had to wait a little more, but by 1.15 pm (almost 2 hours before the ordinary check-in) we got our beautiful room on the 6th floor of the main pyramid with a wonderful view of the ocean and pool-area from 2 different terraces.

Some people have complained about rooms in the main pyramid because of noise from the bar areas, lobby and restaurants (most restaurants and bars are located in the main pyramid). Well, as we had a one bedroom suite, you could hear some music in the living room area where our kids slept on a sofa-bed. But they did not have any problems sleeping there, and us adults slept in the bedroom which was located one room deeper inside, and we could not hear any noise or music at all from downstairs in the lobby-area, and we (especially me) are light sleepers. Our room was also located next to the elevators, but we were not bothered with any noise from the elevators. So, our stay was pleasent and comfortable without any unwanted noise.

I would also recommend the main building if you want good internet-connection. I have seen that some people complain about the internet connection, and that was also our experience the first day of our vacation in 2013 when we got a room in pyramid 1. We had no internet connection in the room, and had to go out of the room to get it. However, the room we got that first night in 2013 was not the one we had booked, and the next day we got a room in the main building. And then the rest of the vacation of 2013 and the whole vacation of 2014 in the main pyramid we had very good internet connection, among the best I have experienced in a hotel. I did a speed test on my iPad, and the result was 13 mb/s download speed and 7 mb/s upload speed. That is more than enough for reading/sending mails, uploading pictures to Facebook/Twitter or to watch Youtube/Netflix.

Our one bedroom suite was spacious with a total of about 55 sqm (600 sqf), one living room with a sofa bed, a sofa chair, a table, two chairs and a reasonable sized TV (think it was 32" or 37"), and the living room had a desk with a chair, a chest of drawers a King Size bed and night tables for each side of the bed, also with the same TV as in the living room. It also came with a minibar (included in the AI of course, and restocked daily with sodas, juices and beers). Both rooms had access to terraces, both large enough, but the one on the bedroom side was the biggest with about 15 sqm (160 sqf). The bathroom was also reasonable sized with a shower/tub combination.

In other words, more than enough space for a family of 4. If I should say anything negative about the room, it would have to be that some of the furnitures are a bit dated, and that it should be considered to renew some of the furnitures soon.

Air-condition worked very well in the rooms, and also in the Family Concierge lounge, could have been a little better in some of the restaurants, but the buildings have huge open areas that will be difficult to cool down. The most important anyway is to be able to cool down in your room.

I already mentioned the Family Concierge lounge where we checked in. This was an area you could go to if you had questions, if you just wanted to relax with a drink or a soda/juice or a cup of coffee/tea, and they also had a pool table and different video games. Another wonderful thing about the Family Concierge package is that you get your "own" butler. You get a cell phone to borrow which has the numbers for all the butlers, and concierge, room service and so on, and you can just call your butler if you want to book a restaurant or other activites. Our butler, Nancy, went out of her way to arrange things for us, and for the second night she even booked us at a restaurant to be sure we wouldn't be without a place to eat (because we had not decided yet where we would eat). Thank you Nancy for making our stay even better!

The need to book restaurants is something several people have complained about, but with the Family Concierge service this was no problem for us. Just make sure you get a receipt that a table has been booked, because some people have complained that they had a booking, but when they arrived to the restaurant their name was not there. That is probably because the booking was not made in the system. If you make sure your butler gives you a receipt of the booking, then the booking is in the system, and we did not experience any problems. We did, however, miss one booking last year, because we didn't get the receipt. But again, if you have a receipt, the booking is done.

There are only two restaurants that did not need bookings, the buffet restaurant Naos, and the authentic mexican taco-restaurant Blue Agave. Both of these however have great food, and the buffet restaurant has a wide variety of hot and cold dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and if you don't find anything you like here it is not because there is no good food, but because you are too picky. We ate breakfast and lunch every day at Naos, and also dinner there two evenings. We ate dinner one evening at Blue Agave, and enjoyed authentic Mexican tacos (my wife is Mexican, so she knows how a real taco is supposed to be).

The other 3 evenings we ate at "need to book"-restaurants. We enjoyed them all very much.
At Vento they serve tapas, and you had choices in both cold and warm dishes, and both fish and meat. The restaurant La Perla is outdoors and the only restaurant not located in the lobby/restaurant area. It is located outside the pyramid 1, and they serve steaks american style, like rib-eye, new york and so on. We chose rib-eye, and it was very good, but they might have some more choises for sides. The Market Grill is also a steakhouse, and the waiters go around serving you different kinds of meat; beef, turkey, chicken, lamb and so on. You just have to say stop when you've had enough. Also here they could have some more sides and sauces, but also a good experience.

We tried the Bana last year, but did not want to eat there this year. We are not that into sushi, but if you are, that's what they serve, but as mentioned since we are not into sushi, we can not comment on the quality on that, other than we did not like it so much.

We also did not try the Tempo (gourmet) or the Mole (Mexican gourmet) as they were only for adults. They do offer babysitting services at the hotel (at extra cost), but for us they main point of going on vacation with our kids is to spend as much time as possible with them, not dump them to go out to eat a fancy dinner, so we chose not to opt on that.

As mentioned our room had not just one, but two terraces, and it was a beautiful place to sit down and relax and watch the ocean after putting the kids to sleep.

The beach is incredible, as probably most of the resort beaches in Cancun, and it is very big, so there's room for everyone, but even though there are plenty of beach beds, if you are late, you are not going to get one. That goes for both the beach area and the pool area. But this problem does not have much to do with the hotel, but selfish guests who keep their bed with a towel or other belongings the whole day, even when they go to eat lunch or whatever. At any given time we were at the beach or the pool there were lots of unused beds with towels. Of course maybe someone were in the ocean or in the pool, but for example in the pool area sometimes we experienced that 5-10 people were in the pool, and 15-20 beds were unused covered with a towel. Where were the rest of the people? Guests, please try to give other guests some respect! Actually the last day we were there, I got up at 5.45 to go down to the beach and take some photos of the sunrise, and I saw a woman that had occupied a beach bed. Good for her if she wanted to get up early and stay at the beach. The only problem was that she had also covered 10-12 other beach beds with towels, holding them for her family/friends. That's just disrespectful to other guests.. But then again, this has to do with selfish guests, and I think this occures at most resorts, so you can't blame the hotel for this.. or maybe a suggestion could be that the hotel get some people to go around clearing towels from unused beach beds?

The weather is not something the hotel staff can do anything about, but in 2013 we were not so lucky about the weather, with rain 4 out of 5 days, but in 2014 we had sun everyday, with a little rain one night while we were sleeping. Of course the weather will be a factor deciding wether your vacation is a success or not, but nothing the hotel staff can change. And this year the weather was absolutely on our side.

And for the hotel staff. There are always going to be people complaining about something, and of course with lots of employees, some of them are not going to have a great day every day, but that said, 95 % of all the hotel employees we met, from concierge to waiters to chefs, bartenders and busboys would always give us a smile and a hello. And for the Family Concierge staff, and the Kids Zone employees.. all wonderful and helpful people. Can't thank them enough for our stay!

About tips. We are not from the US, which have a, to us, very strange tip culture, that you have to tip for whatever. We are used to tip when we receive good service, as a reward to the people who provide the good service. Anyway, we still did tip a lot, both for meals, concierge, cleaning staff and other, but even the times we did not tip, the staff still treated us the same good way. That's how we want things to be, not that your tip decide how well you are treated. But of course, I don't know what kind of salary the employees have, but the majority of them absolutely deserve a tip. We did not tip because we felt we had to, but because they deserved it.

All in all, the conclusion is that this resort is beautiful, have a wonderful staff, and amazing beach and pool areas, and I would absolutely recommend this hotel, and I hope to come back next year. I can understand that some guests who have an issue that is important to them not being taken care of might not give top score, but guests who give this resort a 1 or 2 have to be on the wrong planet.

Room Tip: High floor, ocean view. For good internet connection, choose main pyramid.
