My wife and I stayed here from Dec. 31, 2012-Jan 7., 2013 in an all-inclusive package from Westjet Vacations from Toronto, in a preferred club room. Our first time in Cancun, though our third in the Yucatan/Quintana Roo region, and my fourth all-inclusive, though our first Secrets. Without question, this is one of the nicest places I've ever stayed in.

Check-In. We arrived around 2pm, and were immediately brought to the preferred check-in area on the 21st floor. Our room wasn't ready (Checkout is noon), but we happily were shown to the Sea Salt restaurant for lunch and passed some time with lunch and some drinks. The room took a little longer than they initially said, but i always assume as much anyhow, so I didn't mind. We returned to the preferred check-in area around 3:15 and finally got into the room around 3:45. Probably could have been a little smoother, but we didn't mind, and everyone was very professional. Our bags arrived within 10 minutes of getting in the room.

Room: preferred club junior suite. Wow, was our first impression and continued to be throughout our stay for just about everything. The room was HUGE and beautiful with double sinks and a gorgeous walk in shower with a rain shower head in addition to the usual shower head. Hot water was plentiful and the sundries were crazy complete, from large bottles of mint-rosemary shampoo/conditioner, to a shaving kit to a toothbrush/toothpaste to spf15 sunblock. The bed was king size and comfortable with king-size feather pillows and smaller qualofill (sp?) pillows. The decor was super relaxing, the room being decorated in soft whites and wood tones. the balcony was huge, and even though we were more towards the lagoon side, the views were spectacular. We were on the 21st floor.

Food. Again, wow. Didn't have a single bad meal, and even the breakfast and lunch buffets were amazing. We tried 5 of the 6 restaurants for dinner (all except sea salt, though we were there for lunch). Favourites were definitely the Asian-themed Dragon and the Bluewater Grill.Dragon was especially impressive and the very young French Canadian Chef has done an AMAZING job with the menu. Bluewater was also good and we had a terrific waiter the evening we were there: Luis was superb and we tipped him well.

Beach: beautiful sand, hot sun, good drinks and umbrella services, can't see how they could improve it. Only drawback was the very very rough ocean and crazy/unpredictable undertow. But that isn't the fault of the resort. We spent about half our time on the beach and were rarely without a drink. We also had no trouble with loungers but then again we tended to be out by 8:30/9am at the latest.

Preferred Club: Is it worth it? In my opinion, yes. The preferred club pool area with the butler and dedicated servers is worth the extra few dollars a day, presuming you like that sort of thing. Fabian (the butler) and Alejandro (the main waiter) while we were there were terrific and with a smaller crowd to service we were able to get to know them a bit. Two very nice guys doing an excellent job. The preferred club also seems to get you a larger room (but i'm not clear on that), a great concierge area on the 21st floor, with better quality drinks (e.g. grey goose as opposed to absolut), and hors d'oerves most of the day. Just raised the bar enough to make us feel were that much more pampered. And to those people who thought maybe you were missing out? Well, you were, a little, but honestly, the whole place is so beautiful, who complain about it!

The preferred club also gets you a bit more personalized service due to the dedicated staff on the 21st floor. For example, one night my wife had minor issue with her foot, something that we knew could be solved with a salt water bath. I talked to Miguel on 21 and within 30 minutes he had solved our problem, with concern and a smile. A special thanks to Miguel for this, who I think really went above and beyond.

Problems: only a few, and some I think are endemic to these types of resorts. 1. Could be noisy at night up until 10-11 pm as the pool area doubles as the entertainment area and those with rooms on the pool side (like us) can hear all the music etc.Of course, we are very early to bed when on vacation (sometimes as early as 9:30) and early risers, so even I don't think this is a very valid complaint! 2. As with every other resort I've been to, there is a no lounger reservation policy that everyone ignores. In the preferred area, there'd often be towels and personal belongings on the "best" loungers by 7am, and no-one sitting in them until 9:30 or so; the hotel seems reluctant to enforce this, but then again so does every other resort I've been to, including cruise ships; more of an overall problem then specific to secrets.

Final word: Wow. Can't recommend this place enough. From the rooms to the food to the beach there is enough attention to detail to keep all bu the most picayune people happy. Easily the best resort I've ever been to and easily a true 5 star resort.

We just got back from a two weeks stay at this hotel ,the best that we have seen in all aspects ,adult only, excellent service ,food rooms spa, attention beach was on the rough side may be the location (open water) but the view and the pool was plenty .
If you are in a hurry that is not for you, relax and relax and more of the same ,rooms are tops get ocean front ,west corner master suites ,no need to leave your room, room service Ala carta ,all inclusive we didn't leave even though our favorite restaurant across the street (Puerto Madero) .
This is the Best of the Secrets and have been to all in Cancun.
If they keep it up at this level of excellence ,Fiesta Americana Coral Beach,J W Marriott and the Ritz have true competition ,there prices and all Inclusive .
Our friend that went with us was shocked at the beauty of the Master suite ,that he said no more coral beach for a while our favorite hotel in Cancun.

Room Tip: Ocean Front West are best but $$$$$

My husband and I stayed in the resort for a week. So, I want to mention the highlights and the biggest disappointments of our stay..
We were attracted to the fact that this resort was brand new and the deals were pretty good.
Things we loved: the food, which was exceptional. All the restaurants are pretty much fine dining. Italian restaurant seems to serve smaller portions, but you can order as much as you want..
Our favorite one was Olio, which impressed us a lot with the highest quality of meals.
We also liked the staff, everyone seems to be extremely helpful, polite and friendly. We never had even one issue with being treated badly or needed to wait for a service. As a tip- try to go for your dinner around 6 PM, so you won't need to wait.
We liked the preferred club pool where we could decompress without a noisy music or drunken crowds.
What we didn't like were a lack of privacy in the resort, pools and beach filled with people that you couldn't escape from. No trees, no shade, the atmosphere is very sterile, don't feel like you're in Mexico. It feels like a luxurious modern Las Vegas hotel on a beach.
The noise in the hall, you can hear everything, door are pretty thin.
Semi-private balconies were a huge disappointment, we were literally sitting next to our smoking neighbors and looking at them.
Also we had a problem with Amstar transportation. We had an email from the hotel confirming our pickup...They simply didn't pick us up, said they waited for us for 3 hours (knowing our flight number and the arrival time), etc.... BS. We looked everywhere and later we needed to take one of the taxis for $65 for a 10 min ride to a hotel. So, be aware of the Amstar bad reputation, we were not the only ones with the same problem. As a tip- ask the front desk for a cab ride to an airport (we did it on the way back), which will be there in 1 minute and it will cost you $35 for a private ride.
We went to an XCaret excursion to get some rest from the cement and granite of the hotel. Well, it was an overcrowded eco-park with ton of attractions for kids, which they had plenty. We didn't even stay for a night show. We wanted to get out of there badly.
To conclude my review- Secrets the Vine is a gorgeous property, very suitable for young couples or college kids that are looking to have fun, not middle aged people like myself looking for a relaxing vacation. Would we come back- absolutely NO.

Dear SaltLakeCitytravel,

We truly appreciate you have taken the time to share your comments on your overview of your stay through this mean.

Unfortunately we have failed on meeting your expectations in regards of our balcony and the concept of our resort; that is to be a modern, contemporary adults-only resort situated along a powder-white beach with crystal-clear views of the Caribbean Sea, elegant and sophisticated layers of platforms and water intersecting on its way down to the ocean, just like the water on the Yucatan Peninsula seeps through layers of lime stone finding its way to the sea. However, we are overjoyed to know that our restaurants and service from our excellent staff have been to your liking.

We regret to hear about your experience with the transportation service, we would appreciate to receive more detailed information about the mail you mentioned to review with the transportation provider.

We truly hope you can give us the opportunity to host you again in the future so we can offer you the truly remarkable experience that you deserve. Please do not hesitate to contact us personally prior your arrival, we will be happy to assist you.

We thank you for choosing Secrets The Vine Cancún as your gateway destination.

Sincerely yours,

My husband and I recently celebrated our 15 yr anniversary at this amazing resort over NYE (7 nights, stayed on the 22 floor). This is a stunning resort that made us feel like royalty from the time we arrived on to the property. Everything about this hotel is ultra modern and chic! We loved all the special details that were done to celebrate our anniversary with our special banner on the door and being featured in the daily newsletter (that was really nice). All of the staff no matter where you were on the resort were very interested in our experience at the resort and went out of their way to make sure that we were pampered and had a beautiful experience. We were upgraded to a preferred junior suite room (AMAZING), and our butler offered to unpack our luggage which I had never had done before. We headed down to enjoy some lunch and explore the resort and returned an all of our items were neatly unpacked. Our butler told us not to worry that we need to start immediately enjoying the trip..no time to worry about unpacking! We are just so grateful to enjoy this milestone at this resort. The food was awesome as well! We plan to return for a quick weekend trip in August! Kudos for making our 1st trip to Mexico FANTASTIC!! I truly want to thank all the staff who made our vacation one that we will never forget!

Room Tip: We enjoyed the view on the 22nd floor.. one tip is that if you have the balcony door open, if you go...

The Vine is a beautiful resort with awesome rooms, food, pools and beach. The down side is the slow service, lack of entertainment at the pools and service with a smile. I have visited several secrets resorts and by far was extremely disappointed with our experience. The service at the restraunts and bars are extremely slow. The chef's paraded around at 1 daily with some great food. Unfortunately I will stick with secrets wild orchid in Jamaica, the best vacation in 10 years, the food, service, and people make it a much better hot spot.
