Had the opportunity to stay a few day at the Sandos Cancun resort, great property on the beach. While Sandos Cancun is smaller that most of the mega properties further down the coast, it offers a wonderful contrast to the overcrowded, fast paced, loud and somewhat over the top multi-thousand room resorts spread over miles of property. It offers basically the same services as do the larger resorts however in a more compact atmosphere. The beach is great, and the other wet area show a bit of thought in their layout. This recently renovated property is a good value especially when you look at the dinning experience. The Seasons restaurant is susperb, the young Mexico City Chef does an outstanding job with his combination of mouthwatering flavors; a true innovator.

In short, a great place to stay near downtown Cancun.

Upon arriving to the hotel we were greeted with a cold cloth and a rose for ladies. Check in was a little rocky. We knew to ask for a room with a balcony and of course they said that they did not have one available and for us to call down the next day to see if one had become available. We asked to speak to manager and after viewing a few room options we finally got what we were looking for.. a room with a balcony view. This resort only has suites available that are ocean front. If you are not getting a suite then you will not be able to be ocean front. With the balcony you will be able to go out and see the ocean from your room however. I recommend rooms that are in the 20's and higher.
The food at this resort is no better then any other resort that I have visited that is all inclusive. I read many reviews about the food for this hotel and everyone raved on how great it was. I was not impressed. If they only focused more on taste and less on presentation it wouldn't be so bad. The one upside is that they do offer lobster a lot throughout the visit in different restaurants. I do wish there would have been more food options and we missed not having a buffet throughout the day to just graze on. Every time we wanted a meal we would have to set down and wait on them to serve us and getting the food would take forever.
The entertainment was nonexistent. If you are looking for a lively hotel this is not the place. The only thing they offered while we were there was volleyball (both pool and beach.) Granted it did rain four of the days we were there and when the sun came out on the last day there was a regea bad set up on the pool deck. That was a huge plus. Entertainment at night was poor. They claim that they are close to the bars and that is why they don't do much for entertainment. Sandos has four staff that are entertainment/lifeguards. They didn't do much of either of this things. They just walked around with their heads up in the clouds.
The staff was very friendly and very accomidating. Oscar was great around the pool deck. He was there everyday asking to get us food or drink and whatever we needed. The manager was great we had told her that the hotel forgot it was my birthday and she fixed that right away. I had two little cakes sent to the room with my name on them two different nights. They blew up balloons and had them throughout the room. They made a cake out of towels and had that placed on the bed one night. It was really special.
The grounds at the hotel was very nice. They were constantly cleaning and fixing things. Beautiful hotel and it was much smaller than what you would see in Cancun. They are a kid friendly facility however there weren't too many kids around which we really enjoyed. There is not a lot for kids to do at this resort. They did keep the inside of the resort a little warmer than what I would prefer. The restaurants at night were too hot and the lobby stayed pretty warm.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room. And ask to face the Secrets hotel (it is a little nicer of a view). We sta...

This hotel is really amazing. We travelled as a couple and highly recommend this hotel. The staff are absolutely amazing and try their best to make your stay an amazing experience. We got everything we wanted and asked for.

Daily lobster grilled on the bbq by the beach is amazing. Only issue with food i would say is the lack of desserts. Food was delicious and really good....we just didn't see a lot of options for desserts.

Our initial room didn't have a balcony but we asked for one and we were accommodated without any additional charges.

Huge thanks to Patricia, Ithiel and Arturo @ Zango, Darvelio and Erick @ BBQ by the beach and Lazaro @ reception. These mentioned staff displayed amazing customer service. Kudos to them!

Ask the staff for your own bottle of champagne then head to the gazebos by the beach (music there too) and enjoy the amazing ocean and wind at night!!

The massage at the spa is worth every penny and very relaxing!

All rooms, including the ones without the balconies, have either a lagoon or beach view. The rooms without balconies have windows that open up fully so feels a bit like a balcony.

We will let the pictures do the talking.

Enjoy!

We went to Sandos for much-needed relaxation and restoration. We had a wonderful week there and would return gladly. We were warmly welcomed and were happy to NOT receive a forceful pitch for time-shares upon on our arrival. We had a spacious, clean Deluxe room with ocean view. Our fridge was stocked with assorted beverages and even some M&Ms to snack on. The bathroom was spacious and offered a toilet with door separated from the shower, which was convenient. The outdoor area of the resort has three beautiful infinity pools with plenty of cushy lounge chairs as well as shaded cushioned lounge beds. Wait staff tends to guests around the pool as well as on the beach, so you never have to be thirsty. At lunchtime for several days there was live music on a small stage in the middle of a pool. This made for enjoyable mid-day entertainment. This resort boasts a lovely spa. If you go for a service BE SURE to go about 45 minutes to an hour early to take advantage of the hydrotherapy offered by a steam room, cold plunge pool, sauna and hot tub. Ladies get cucumbers on their eyes and a cool cloth on their forehead while soaking up the steam or sauna. Low candlelight and delicious cold hibiscus water complement the therapies. We had delightful massages with Andres and Josephina and then enjoyed some relaxation time in the relaxation room after the massage with a cold beverage in hand and warm pack around our shoulders. Very indulgent and incredibly relaxing. Don't miss the small outdoor area with fountain waterfall accessed through the spa lobby. Small caveat here: Make sure you understand the cost of the service you are getting in the currency with which you are familiar. We experienced some confusion on this due to a bit of language barrier.
The FOOD was stupendous. There are four restaurants--an outdoor cafe that happens to have a brick oven, the main restaurant, a fancier dinner-only place, and a bit gimmicky Japanese hibachi eatery. If you like the show, try the Japanese restaurant; otherwise, I would skip it. Very hot temperatures! We loved the main restaurant that rotated both its lunch and dinner menus daily, so NO REPEATS in the week. Lots of choices --BBQ, Indian, Caribbean, Italian, Mexican, etc. All the food was delicious and we particularly liked the portion sizes--not gigantic, very reasonable. They allowed us to enjoy small appetizers and small desserts with most meals as well and not feel like beached whales. Presentation of the food was beautiful as well. As for the breakfast buffet--plenty to choose from--breads, pastries, cereals,an entire section of just fresh fruits and juices, yogurts, cold meats/fishes, cheeses, and a whole area of hot entrees and sides including local cuisine, oh--and custom omelets. The fancy restaurant has an unchanging seafood based menu and offers live piano music. The outdoor cafe has tasty salads and snacks. Note--the pizza is heavy on cheese and a bit doughy--not suggested. My boyfriend said it was not better than frozen pizza. However, the fresh guacamole is divine and addictive. The ceviche is a real winner too. Room service is also offered as part of this all-inclusive experience and you can make choices on a hangtag the night before for breakfast, if you wish. The hostesses at the main restaurant were delightful and the waitstaff in general were very good. Sometimes language was a little problematic in the dining area. We would rather have someone say they don't understand than smile and say, "Yes," but then not be able to follow through on a request (more of a management issue) The employees are all very service oriented. Carmen, at the front desk, was particularly helpful. We spent most of our time at the resort, alternating between the beach one day and pool the next. We wanted some excellent photos together as souvenirs of our trip. The front desk put us in touch with local photographers Ricardo and Norma of www.TrogonStudio.com/contact/ They were fantastic! We made arrangements for a photoshoot nearby for a few hours the next day. It was affordable and a terrific experience; better than any other tourist activity! Ricardo and Norma made the experience so enjoyable--they took us to a lagoon as well as a beach for photos, posed us, and made us look glamorous. The scenic settings were gorgeous and we absolutely LOVE the pictures we received on disk. HIGHLY RECOMMEND a photo shoot as much for the actual fun of the experience as well as the lasting souvenirs of the photos themselves. If you visit this resort, give them a call for memorable photos--for couples, friends, family, whatever! Oh, the we really liked the beach at Sandos, as it was very clean, no rocks, nice waves. We opted for a $50pp Parasail experience--you can signup at the towel hut by the pool. Very worthwhile on a calm ocean day--terrific view. Overall, Sandos offered wonderful dining, great service and a relaxing atmosphere for a fair price.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool might be a bit noisy for a day sleeper.

My first visit to Cancun gave the impression of a resort thats slightly hanging on to a more glorious past and is looking a little dated however. That said the sandos was very good and provided a very good hotel experience at a fair price. The food was of a good standard with particular nod the the excellent breakfast buffet. Resort is well maintained and very clean. Bright spot was the staff who were very friendly. Lovely beach area and enjoyed the activities such a the volleyball.

We were greeted in a very warm very friendly and nice receptionists, plus facilities that are a delicacy.
The order of the rooms alike and repeat the warm treatment of the people who attended. Equally a menu of excellence in all good meals not to mention the bar service had everything and that's very nice in a hotel, alike the hotel's entertainment staff that gave us many nights entertaining.
I also note the cleanliness of the hotel worthy of a luxury hotel beautifully made beds changing towels provided daily. It is a very novel and would really like to return with my family and more friends, as many hotels are sold as luxury hotels but the difference is that the luxury is in the quality of the people who provide the service. In itself, the hotel meets all expectations and more to make your vacation unique.

Congratulations hope to return again soon.

I spent on this amazing location since may 21-may 24. This time I travel only with my husband for a mini vacay. This resort is excellent food and staff members are the best. I would like to mention some of the outstanding staff which made our stay above and beyond my expectations.Efrain provided the best service at the tepayaqui restaurant.Alberto Hernandes and Jairo at Seasons with their smiles and attention made my birthday dinner unfrogetable.Ventura (chef) at Zangos took the time to prepare some crepes for me even though that morning there was not crepes in the menu. Oscar Chan at St. Trop assure that all the people at the restaurant and at the pool received the best service. Irving and Carolina at Zango with their beautiful smile and excellent service made our stay even better.Miguel at Bar One entertain us with his stories and advices about Cancun. This hotel has a perfect location, the beach is beautiful and the pools are so relaxing. this is a place for complete relaxation. The gym ans spa has the best equipment and relaxation spa beds. If traveling with kids this is not the place, there is not enough entertainment for kids compare to Sandos Playacar and Sandos Caracol which is a excellent place for kids. If looking for a relax vacation with the best food and staff this is the best place to stay. We used also the bus to travel to the center of cancun which is very safe.
Being a Royal elite member, the only complain that have about the hotel is the lack of preference for members, our room was not the assigned for members. I had the opportunity to talk with one of the royal Elite customer service and verbalized my complains, but due to my short stay changes were not made. I hope next time they will assigned us the room that Royal Elite members deserve. Other than that, the food, pools, beach and staff was excellent always.
