We just returned from six days here with our three kids. We absolutely loved it! The resort is a timeshare facility and has a warm and friendly feel to it. The staff there are incredible. They learn your names and seem to go out of their way to make you feel special. Upon arrival, we were given a room that was not looking out towards the pool or the ocean.Jose saw that I was a little dissapointed and offered us a better room right away. We loved the daily activities that were offered and participated in yoga, water aerobics, bingo, fishing, tennis, childrens activities, but the best was beach volleyball. The crowd was mostely young families and retired owners. There was always a choice of chairs by the pool or the beach as many people would leave the resort for the day to visit the other massive Royal resorts like the Royal Sands or the Hacienda. We did visit the sand for a day and while the view and colors took our breath away, the crowded hotel and the almost "fake" look of everything really turned us off. We chose to stay at the Royal Cancun.
The restaurant was a little pricey for what you got and the food was decent. The servers again were wonderful especially the little bar by the kids pool. Make sure to be there at noon for Lotteria! you can win a free drink! We ended up buying things at the market mostely because I found the Walmart overwhelming. Very different from the ones here in Canada.
The rooms were extra clean and our maid was fantastic. Everyday our shoes were lined up and she even emptied the dishwasher for us. Be prepared to tip all of these people as they deserve every penny. They work very hard and seem very invested in the place!
The beach is very shallow and calm. The bonus is that you can snorkel here, although there were not too many fish. We did see some star fish and under the dock is a great place to find little minnows. THe resort has snorkel gear for your use as well as little sailboats that you can use for free.
If there is one thing that I will critique about this hotel, it is that it is close to the channel to the lagoon. There are many boats that cross in front and helicopters from the near by tour place. That noise can be annoying. Also the Pirate ships take off from right next door and come home late at night, The first night it woke me up it was soooooo loud. I got use to it after the first few days.
All in all this is a very charming place to be. The gardens, the people and the less crowded beach makes it very enjoyable!

Room Tip: The room right on the ocean front will be noisy from the pirate ship and helicopter noise.

My wife and I have been coming to the Royal Cancun for five years. It's one of the oldest, and best kept, resorts in Cancun. If you're looking for a quiet, but excellent resort, this is it. Only four stories high, and off the main strip, is recently underwent a $25 million renovation. In April 2014, it began offering an all-inclusive option. My daily rate for the option is $69, a special rate for this year, but it includes almost everything at the Royal Cancun, as well as the other Royal Resorts residents in Cancun. That's not only breakfast, lunch and dinner, but drinks, the fitness club, room service, etc. And they've added a new Italian restaurant, La Trattoria, as well as a pizza/fast food lobby/sports bar. Had dinner at La Trattoria opening night and overall the food was good, the service outstanding. Can't say enough good things about this place. But if you're looking to party, this isn't the place for you.

Room Tip: Almost all rooms face one of the two pools. Rooms closest to the pool get more noise, but by 10 pm...

Stayed at the Royal Cancun for one week, after exchanging in with RCI. Had a two bedroom unit with two bathrooms which was arranged over two floors. The balconies were beachfront and the views out over the ocean were outstanding. The check in process was very efficient and our room was ready despite us having arrived earlier than the stated check in time. The resort is cashless, so your room key also doubles as your payment card. Wi-fi is free and the signal is very strong everywhere - in the room, by the pool and even on the beach! Didn't get any hassle from timeshare sales after politely refusing the offered presentation. The supermarket prices are higher than elsewhere but not extortionate. There are two pool areas which always had sun beds available, as did the beach. Used the free shuttle down to the Royal Sands resort further down the strip and used the local bus to get into downtown Cancun. Day trip to Chichen Itza is a must and if you can tag on a swim in a cenote then do, as it's a great experience. Really enjoyed my time at this resort and would definitely holiday here again.

Room Tip: Try and get a beachfront unit with sea views

We loved The Royal Cancun. The service was great! Everyone from the Concierge to the bell person was so welcoming, engaging and helpful. The suite was great, the swimming pool inviting. Two thumbs up!

Room Tip: We had a 2 bedroom suite on the street side.

This was our 2nd annual all girls trip! This was the best!! Our suite was amazing. We had 2 private balconies overlooking the beach. We went swimming at night time in one of the many swimming pools that changes colors at night.. Beautiful. The turtle pond was nice to see too. It was like our own private island.. The staff came up and offered us drinks while we laid out on the beach. We took great photos oh and yes we got lost a few times finding our rooms.... But the staff was amazing and helped us everytime!! LOL. WE WILL BE BACK!!!

My wife and I were the first customers (and not on AI) to eat at the new La Trattoria italian restaurant at the Royal Cancun this evening and we had the first Royal Cancun AI customers sitting next to us. The restaurant size and decor are intimate, the staff are very friendly with attentive service, and are all very excited about this new restaurant. They served a very light and tasty pita bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We shared a caprese salad, my wife had the cheese ravioli with lobster sauce and i had the saltimbocco. The salad was tasty and the entrees excellent. If you buy wine by the bottle you can take whatever is left back to your villa. FYI: All the entrees but one were included in AI as well as the first two pages on the wine list.
The adjoining sports bar is the most beautiful of all the Royals resorts with 3 large screen TV's, a bar and comfortable lounge chairs.
We would highly recommend this restaurant to all members and guests.

The Royal Cancun is royal, indeed. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and had a fabulous time! The food was absolutely amazing...I can still taste it and it's been 4 years! The staff would surprise us almost everyday with free champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. The jacuzzi in our room was incredible. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!
