We've been on the whale shark tour with pick-up from our hotel in Playa del Carmen on July 24th.
The first thing to mention is our tour guide Rubén who in my point of view did a fantastic job. He had to facilitate the small group in two foreign languages which he did really well and very authentic. He was always on top of the game and always had an ear and eye for every group member.
The tour itself is simply great. Very clean equipment, fitting everyones needs. The boat's captain (boat Regi) obviously knew where to go to get the highest number of whale sharks and put our boat in perfect position for several snorkel stints per couple. So also great job on that side.
In water, this big fish was blowing my mind. Although you see size comparisons anywhere, only when you see it live you can judge what huge, but gentle animal this is.
We were also lucky to see some Manta rays and even a dolphin jumping in the water.
The group had a good fun factor on board and we had a nice ending with snorkeling at the reef and small, but delicious ceviche lunch in shallow, turqoise water in front of the scenery of Isla Mujeres.
I also appreciated the protection of the nature. Although many people will say, then don't even go with the boats to watch the whale sharks, but at least no sun cream is allowed and clear rules are set how to behave (e.g. don't touch the animals or corals). And any time some one has an eye on that.
Conclusion: Would have loved to stay even longer on this tour and would definitely do it again if having the opportunity.
