We absolutely loved our tour with Juan Carlos Aleman to the beautiful ruins in Tulum. We were so amazed at how much we learned from him and how he taught us from the scriptures as we toured this amazing location. We were treated so kindly by him and we also benefited from his associations and familiarity with the area many people knew him and gave us first class service because of it.

We just returned from a wonderful honeymoon in Cancun/Playa del Carmen. We decided to do 3 tours with LDS Tours. We were a little nervous before we went, hoping we would like the tours since we booked 3 of them! But there was no need for nerves... all three tours were awesome!!

Carlos was our guide for all of the tours. Carlos is not just a tour guide; he's also an anthropologist, scholar, and master networker! One of the reasons his tours are so great is that he has made great connections that allow him to take people off the beaten path and have unique experiences. And his knowledge of all thing Mayan is amazing. And he's always learning more... we loved hearing about his recent discoveries and theories!

Our first tour was to Chitzen Itzen. It was incredibly interesting and we were so glad that we weren't in one of the many large tour groups there. We learned so much! Afterwards, we stopped in a small town where they make furniture and smoked meat... Carlos took us to see one place where they smoked the meat and we got to sample it (delicious). Then we went to Vallidolid, a beautiful Spanish city. We just wandered and let him tell us cool facts. It was great!

The next tour started with Tulum, which is absolutely beautiful. Carlos used to be a guide here, so he knows all of the good picture spots and cool facts. ;-) Then he took us to what is essentially a private eco-park. No commercial Xcaret on these tours! We went zip lining, canoeing to a cave, ate a delicious Mayan meal, and then swam in a beautiful cenote. It was magical. After that, we went snorkeling at Akumal. We were supposed to see turtles, but for some reason they were hiding that day. Carlos said it was pretty weird as there are ALWAYS turtles there. Oh well! There were still beautiful reefs and lots of fish to see.

The last tour was to Coba. We looked at some of the ruins close to the entrance and then rented bikes to go to some of the ruins further out (you can hire a bike taxi and have them pedal for you if you want. ;-) At Coba you also get to climb a pyramid. It's pretty steep, but there's a rope to hold on to and it doesn't take long to get up. The view from the top is beautiful! After Coba we went to a Mayan village, where Carlos stayed for a few months during his school studies. We got to meet some wonderful families there. Then we went to a nature reserve and saw spider monkeys and went zip lining again. Such a great day!

We highly recommend Carlos and LDS Tours. You will not regret it!

This was one of the best days of our holiday. Carlos was absolutely the best. He picked us up at our location and made us all feel very comfortable. He is very knowledgable and shared so much information in an interesting and time efficient manner. He is a wonderful, friendly person. We easily spent the whole day with him. He kept all of us busy and interested, adults, teens, and children. We made some extra stops to look at local bees, had a great local lunch, saw many ruins, learned about art, and even our drives were filled with information. We would have loved to spend more time with him. One of our teenage sons even said, 8 months after our trip, that he would like to go back and visit more ruins with Carlos. We would all highly recommend this as a must for your trip to the area!

We had done our Tour with Carlos. He's amazing! He was extremely knowledgeable regarding the history, content, culture etc...of everything regarding the Mayan civilization. Truly an experience to never be forgotten. I was amazed by everything we saw. We spent a full day going to chichen Itza, Ik Kil and Tulum. He was kind enough to let us taste of the culture with eating of the dragon fruit (awesome!!).
It was interesting seeing his style and knowledge come out, compared to the other tour guides who seemed to just go around having their groups clap everywhere and talk about how the ruins were made rather than talking about the history behind the "WHY" did they build them and what were they used for and the culture. Truly an amazing experience! Thanks Carlos. Can't wait for your book to come out.

My husband and I were happily surprised by how much we learnt on our first tour with Carlos. We had such an amazing time visiting the ruins of Tulum and Coba with Carlos that we cancelled other plans to visit Chichen Itza on the last day of our trip. He stops at some interesting places along the way that you would otherwise not get to see with other tours. His background in anthropology and his connections in the archaeology world are priceless and will make you feel a connection with these ancient civilizations that you cannot experience on your own.
