We love Fred's for the ambiance, food, and service. Pricey but worth it, although my favorite meal there is very reasonable: Fred' Salad (greens with walnuts, cranberries, roasted red peppers, a unique vinaigrette dressing and the best creamy goat cheese balls coated with pistachios - yum!) and the blackened fish tacos appetizer as my entree. They serve a variety of tasty sauces with their tortillas. Ask for a table outside - some tables have views of the lagoon and others feel like you are in in a private tropical paradise surrounded by plants.

“Almost perfect”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

We ate here last night as it was opposite our hotel (JW Marriot) and it was cold and wet. The restaurant is large but intimate at the same time. Service was impeccable but verging on the obtrusive as the restaurant was not busy.. Our waitress really knew her menu and ingredients and gave us good suggestions. The menu was a fish lovers paradise. We were brought a delicious cupful of fish broth (delicious) with crispy tacos of various flavours to be eaten with sauces and relishes and they would have been very welcome but for the extreme saltiness.
For starter, my husband had scallop ceviche with chilli and avocado which he enjoyed- there was almost too much of it, however, there was too much lime juice in it. I had scallops, shrimp, octopus and squid smothered with the chef's special sauce topped with a grilled jalapeño pepper. It was good, but again slightly too acidic.
For main, my husband had the 'piccolo paella'. Well, nothing piccolo about it. It was good, not great but far too large a portion. I had octopus from the grill which was amazing. It was served with grilled vegetables and some potatoes. We had a reasonable bottle of Argentinian Torrontes which went well with the meal and were too full for dessert. Then came the shaved ice with vanilla syrup. This was lovely for me, with a sweet tooth and I resisted the urge to finish it all up!

Overall, a very good restaurant with professional waiters. Had it not been so quiet, I don't think we would have had a 'shadow' behind us and we would have felt rather more at ease. The menu had many things that tempted us - more than in many a restaurant. We shall return, perhaps even tomorrow night. The price of around US$150 for two with wine for a restaurant of this quality was not excessive.

Very good food and very very good service. We appreciate high quality food and this restaurant stands for it.

With the outside (kiosk) seating option, it just became fantastic!

“One of the best!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 27, 2013

We went to this restaurant after reading great reviews on trip advisor. We had a great time... the staff was nice and friendly. Our head waiter Roberto was amazing. From the moment we walked in till we left we were well attended. My husband ordered whole Grouper and was cooked on a charcoal grill and he loved. At the end manger greets us at our table and brought complimentary dessert (shaved ice with vanilla syrup). If you are in Cancun don't miss this amazing restaurant.
