Plaza las Americas has a great selection of stores and spots to eat both in the food court and restaurants. It's a combination of an open-air and air-conditioned mall.

This mall is fab! We had a great time strolling around this mall it is huge and have plenty of different shops. The prices are average and are not too expensive. We stayed in the hotel zone in RIU and we had to catch bus 27 to get here. Plaza las americas is not based in the tourist part of cancun like la isla but is a trip downtown cancun. We walked the first time we headed that way and was horrified as it took us 2hours and were no bus stops as it looked like a highway. The next time we visited the mall we caught the bus and took aprox 10min! Well worth a visit

Came here on a rainy day in Cancun. Lots of locals, not many tourists. Bring pesos - not everyone takes Visa/MC. Tons of food, big food court, lots of restaurants - even a Chili's, California Pizza Kitchen, and Johnny Rockets, for those needing a fix of familiar. Not really much different than shopping at home - except for the language barrier. Cab from Moon Palace was $35, and better than sitting in the hotel lobby for the day. Teenage daughter liked the million shoe stores and a few discount (like Rue 21, H&M at home) clothing stores.

There are some stores that sell very high quality products, but you may not get very good price after getting part of the tax back for the American brands if you do not buy much.

The food court do sell some mexican food, but they are no way comparable to the street foods or local restaurants. They do not taste very local but they are very very clean, and for the people who could eat real Mexican spicy food but still want to try some Mexican cuisine, this is a nice place to visit. Their foods are cheaper than the hotel zone and the same price as the ones you would pay in Canada or U.S.
