“Awesome Trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 15, 2012

I book hotels mostly by pools...and this pool was excellent. There were several pools more or less linked together however, one is not able to swim- pool to pool like the pictures suggests via under the small bridges. The pool with the bar is the warmest and I spent many hours floating around. Happy hour is from 3pm -6 every afternoon. There are various activities for one to partake in. Water aerobics, volleyball, bingo and many others. The rules are posted that territory is not to be staked out in advance for more then 30 minutes but I never saw this enforced. Towels seemed to be on chairs all day long. All sorts of free rentals are available from mask/snorkel, noodles, inner-tubes, bikes, kayaks, the list goes on. Cleanness of the grounds are impeccable....not a blade of grass out of place.

We were in a 2/2 room 906 and it had an awesome view of the ocean. We had maid service everyday but Sunday. If I had to find something to complain about i would say that the furniture needed some updating but it wasn't really a big concern. I'd also have to complain about the slow elevators...grrrrrrrrr! You really can't go wrong booking at this resort!

Eating:
Trade winds: Average

Pacos Tacos: Very good Mexican, buffet

Captains Cove: Excellent and for entertainment, you might see crocks begging for food.

Senore Frogs: Expensive and average at best. Great drinks, recommend the Mojito on the rocks! Entertaining staff! Don't go down the water slide..water is really questionable on the lagoon side and where you drop into the water it's got a chain link fence protecting you from Crocodiles. Go view it on U tube if want to see it.

Thai: OMG, the best Thai food I've eaten. It's setting is jungle themed with individual thatched roof huts on the lagoon. If you like Thai food....go!!!!

Tours:
Tulum is worth every cent. It's located about 2 hours away from the hotel. Ruins are located above the beach and it's beautiful. We booked with Entertain Plus which was recommended by others on Trip Advisor. I recommend them as well now.
After Tulum we went to Xel-ha which is an all day excursion if you love the water. It's all inclusive and to get your money's worth....stay all day. Eat and drink as much as you like. I did snorkeling however it's not a natural reef but man made. If you've done the real diving in natural reefs in the ocean you may be disappointed. However, there are many varieties of fish to see. Shark free for those scared of Jaws! The place is huge with zip lining, swimming with Dolphins, lazy river ..yada yada.

Did the glass bottom boat booked via hotel. 15 minutes from hotel. It's about a hour and half...about 20 minutes spent viewing fish and then about half hours snorkeling. Much better than Xel Ha. Warning: The magnification from the glass bottom boat made my daughter very sea sick. If you have problems with car sickness (like my daughter does) this may effect you as well. My husband however was fine and he has problems with boats.

There is plenty to do, or not to do. Either way you'll have a fantastic trip.

Room Tip: higher floors have the better views.

Was at the Caribbean Jan 7-14. Exceptional service without being pushy. Italian Seafood Buffet on Wednesday night was a Highlight. The tennis pro, Ignatio, is excellent at a reasonable price for lessons. The beach is gorgeous and beautifully maintained. Maid service in each Villa is to write home about. You can cook in each villa to cut down on expenses. Each resort has its own grocery store that is reasonably priced.

We ALWAYS have a great experience at ANY Royal resort. The staff is extremely helpful and always ready to assist you with anything you need. The staff remembers your name and cannot do enough to help you. We have never had a bad experience at the Royal CArribean and go there as often as possible. For a resort to be so constant in their reliability says a lot!!

Room Tip: Try to get the water side, most rooms overlook the water anyway

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2012

We just returned from an absolutely perfect weeklong vacation in Cancun at The Royal Caribbean. My boyfriend and I took his 3 girls, ages 10, 9, and 5 between Christmas and New Years - and could not have been more pleased. I did a lot of research on TA prior to booking this property, since I wanted to make sure there was plenty to do for the kids. And there was!

To start - we booked transportation from the airport through Thomas Moore Travel Agency (the onsite agency at the Royal properties). Very efficient, reasonably priced- and had a private van for 5 of us that took us right to the property (about 15 min from the airport).

They checked us in early and we were able to go right to our villa - which was amazing! We arrived Mon - and since the property rents Sat-Sat, we stayed our 1st 5 days in the F building (F821). Gorgeous view of the pool AND ocean. HUGE rooms. The villas are set up so there is a common area with TV, kitchen, dining table, and even 2 pulldown beds from the entertainment center if needed. This opens onto a beautiful, large balcony with dining table and lounge chairs. The girls had their own "wing", with 2 queen size beds, large walk in closet, and bathroom. We had a similar set up in our "wing" with a king bed and sliders that opened onto the balcony. Plenty of space and privacy for everyone. Units even came with ironing board and iron which I thought was a nice addition if needed. Although I was told otherwise, - they DO provide bar soap for the bathroom, hairdryer, as well as a "welcome" gift through your personal concierge of shampoo, and lotion - though we brought our own.

We stocked up the first day at the Royal Market on site --and was impressed at the variety of items, and lots of familiar US brands (imp w the kids). We had breakfast and lunch almost daily from our kitchen - and had dinners either at the restaurant on property (Tradewinds) or nearby. Many have mentioned going to Walmart nearby for better prices - but we found the market so convenient, and reasonable.

Given the week we were there - vacation week between Christmas and New Years - the resort was full - but never felt "packed". We could always find a lounge chair at the pool or beach. Both places were HUGE hits with the kids - pool was beautiful, well-maintained, and heated (imp in Dec...and a rare find during my research of other properties). The activities center lended out towels, snorkels, fins, masks, noodles, volleyballs - almost anything you could think of. We would exchange the towels daily for fresh ones - which worked out perfect.

The beach was gorgeous - but the waves were rough....especially for our 5 year old. The kids have to be pretty strong swimmers to handle them and the undertow - but the lifeguards were totally on top of what areas were best to swim in, and which to avoid. Definitely not for real little ones....

For activities: the kids absolutely LOVED the pottery painting...as did my boyfriend! You pick an item to paint, and then they glaze it and put some finishing touches on it---they all come out looking awesome. No need to buy souveniers, when you can make your own! I went to yoga one morning, but was not impressed---it's more geared towards an older clientel who are regulars at the resort I think.
We did book several tours through Thomas Moore: Bonanza Ranch Horse back riding (fantastic), Dolphin swimming through Delphinius at the Dreams resort (so cool--unbelievable pics), and Captain Hook pirate ship dinner adventure (totally awesome for adults and kids!! highly recommend)

For dinners - we spent a few nights at Tradewinds - which had theme nights (Jazz fest, Italian, Mexican) I have to say - the food was shockingly good - MUCH better than I had expected from a buffet. They also had an a la carte menu and a grill with cooked to order items. The waiters were some of the friendliest people I have ever met - and were really great getting the kids orders out fast. The kids menu is standard: pasta, pizza, chicken fingers....but all very good...esp the pizza. We also checked out the show at Hacienda Sisal...a restaurant about 5 min away at the Royal Sands. Kids are 1/2 price and again, the food really surpassed my expectations. The Mexican show was great - traditional costumes, dances, etc. We didn't check out any of the other properties restaurants since we were so happy with ours....but did hear that El Conquistador (at the Royal Mayan) had excellent dining, (a bit more upscale than we were looking for with the kids however.)

The MOVE: I had dreaded this day, since on day 5 of our 6 day vacation, we had to move to another unit (since it was Sat, and everyone actually has to check out on Sat, and then recheck in and move to another unit--unless your departure and arrival are on Sat). HOWEVER - it could not have gone more smoothly. The bellman helped us with all our things and we breezed right into our new unit at 11 am. This may not be standard...as sometimes I guess the units aren't ready until 4....but very glad it worked out for us. Our new unit was in the G building...RIGHT on the ocean. Absolutley stunning!!

I can not say enough wonderful things about the staff at the Royal Caribbean - always smiling, always accomodating - absolutely first class. If you are considering going here - do not hesitate to book. The price/value is almost unbelievable, the propery is spotless, gorgeous and in the most amazing location, and the options for dining/activities truly have something for everyone in mind. I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone -but especially families...you will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Buildings A, G, and H all face directly on the ocean - amazing view! The rest of the buildings all...

First time to Cancun! We're time share owners, who exchanged to the Resort. Been traveling for 10 years, by far....The best trip! Location is amazing, rooms and views as well....But Service is above an beyond what we have ever experienced! Ronnie and Isreal, we cant say enough about you! You honestly made our trip amazing! So many laughs, especially trip to grocery store with Ronnie! Everywhere you turned, someone was there with a smile an avaiilable to help with anything. The beaches are tranquil, gift shops, food, spa, pools...the list goes on.....all just perfect! I Will be back! Thank you so much Ronnie and Isreal, and thank you, Royal Resort!

This is the best place to vacation, especially in the winter when its cold and snowy at home (wisconsin). Everyone is so friendly, the food and drink is amazing, and there are so many fun activities for the kids. I've been going there for over 20 years and hope to continue going for 40 more!
