The Royal Islander offers spacious rooms with incredible ocean views. The hotel staff are always prepared to help and make your stay better. My only complaint about this place would be the exceptionally high prices for everything. All of the hotels affiliated restaurants charge extremely high prices. Additionally, all the Royal hotels offer Thomas Cook tours. The Thomas Cook packages are overpriced and poorly organized. I would not recommend. Other than the hotel affiliated restaurants and tour packages, this place is great. Peaceful, well-maintained, and throughly relaxing.

We were pleasantly surprised when we checked into the resort to find such spacious accommodations. In the past we have always stayed at all-inclusive resorts away from the hotel zone and this was a different experience for us. We loved it. With just a short walk to the bus stop we could ride the city bus and go to Walmart to buy groceries for breakfast and lunch and into town to eat dinner. We were able to take in much more of the city life than we had ever saw before. The people working outside of the resorts were much less likely to speak English but we usually had no trouble finding someone who could. Walmart has the best bakery ever. Any kind of bread or pastry you could want. We also shopped at the Market at the resort. Our resort pools were very nice and clean. Wasnt crowded and had no problem finding lounge chairs or palapas. We did enjoy our dinner at Paco Tacos one night at the resort. Food was good and reasonable. The other restaurant at the resort was a little expensive and we had a bad experience with undercooked hamburger meat. One thing that we found exciting was when we got to help release the baby turtles into the ocean at night. They do this around 8:00 p.m. Staff was very nice and helpful, Evan, our concierge, was right on top of helping us with anything we needed. They did tell us that this resort is going to an all-inclusive in 3 months and some were not happy about that because of the cost. We had a very relaxing vacation.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a better view of the ocean.

This timeshare is in a great location, easy access to the beach and various swimming pools. The two other adjoining resorts give you many options without going into town. However, town can be easily accessed by cab, or public bus. We used both, went into town on various occasions. Lot's of great tour options as well, can't wait to go back.

You can have a relaxing vacation or do multiple tours. This year I took a cooking class of local hispanic cuisine. It was a wonderful class, and I learned "hands on" how to make many delicious dishes. Having a meal with our prepared food was great! Also got to release some baby turtles, and see the mother laying her eggs. A National Geographic experience!

Room Tip: I like a room with a pool view so you can see more at night. Almost all rooms have a view of the oce...

My husband and I have spent the last two weeks traveling Hawaii. It has been great! That being said, he did say "I can't wait til we go to the Islander in December". My family has been heading here for 6 years during the Christmas holiday. My husband slid right in :). The service is phenomenal and always pleasant. We love seeing familiar faces year after year who in turn remember us. I've recommended the Islander many a time and will continue to do so. Enjoy the little grocery store in the lobby and the daily water aerobics. Do what you want on your own time. We are looking forward to our return this year and would encourage everyone to try the Royal way :)

Room Tip: Try to get a room up higher if you can.... No rooms are terrible but higher rooms have a good view o...

So many excellent things to say about our 6 day stay at The Royal Islander--check in was smooth, suite was more than what I expected for the price. The ENTIRE Staff was courteous, from Lobby area to Pool Side (Fermin was so awesome)--everyone was so friendly & helpful. Access to the sister resorts was easy, take a walk on over or a shuttle. The beach was pristine, resort grounds & pool immaculate. Nachos at Pacos Taco's were great,Taxi's readily available to take you were you need to go, the bus runs in front of the Resort what seems like every 5-10 minutes. The Market is very well stocked & not too pricey if you consider Taxi fare to Walmart--I recommend this resort to everyone! It was awesome & can not wait to go back...

Room Tip: Higher floors give the best ocean view..

room not ready.no help with luggage. wifi didn't work. not even one bottle of water in the room. No complimentary coffee for coffee maker in room. mold on grout in shower. cash not accepted anywhere. All purchases put on hotel tab. Hotel store charrged $4 for a bottle of water with all other merchandise comparably expensive. Had to show doorman proof of payment before being allowed to leave. Only positive was that the front desk personnel were helpful and friendly.
