The Royal Islander is very nice. All employees are extremely friendly. We have been staying at the Royal Resorts since the mid 1980's. I love all the resorts. I have never been disappointed. Can't wait until next year. Thank you so much!

The Royal Islander is in a cluster with 2 other Royal Resorts with easy access between the others. The pools are very nice although heating them to a more comfortable temperature would obviously be welcome as most guests enter very cautiously and do not stay in for any length of time. This is a shame since the pools are large with interesting design formations. The beach in this area is very nice as well with the typical blue water that the Caribbean is known for. Rooms are nothing special with limited amenities (no shampoo, conditioner, lotion which seem to be standard in all the hotels and timeshare resorts we stay in these days). We were in a small studio which appears to be a lock off from a larger unit and included a small microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker and a drawer with plates and silverware but I would definitely not call it a kitchenette--more like a hotel room with these minor additions. There was a small round table with 2 chairs as well. There is a large walk in closet with safe deposit box (no charge). The tub/shower had awesome water pressure and new shower curtain with curved rod. Overall the resorts seems to be well maintained. We were very appreciative to find out there was free WiFi but subsequently disappointed when we discovered how sporadic the service was. We kept getting and loosing signal even though the signal always indicated it was very strong. After repeated attempts, we gave up on trying to make phone calls via Skype because those we were calling could never hear us. There is a nice market onsite with a large selection of products that will be familiar to guests from the US with price on the high side but basically what we expected in exchange for the convenience. The guest demographic seemed mainly older retirees from the U.S. that knew each other either because they travel together or because they always come to the same timeshare resort at the same time every year. Since we are not big fans of either Cancun or Florida, the fact that this area reminds us of Florida in many ways is not a plus for us but that is, of course, a very subjective assessment. We used the food and drink service around the pool as well as eating the breakfast buffet. Both were somewhat overpriced but again acceptable due to the convenience factor. One employee that stood out for us was Maria who was cooking at the omelette and waffle station. The omelette, waffle, and pancakes we tried were absolutely wonderful and her skills deserve recognition from her employers. Other than that, the staff was pretty much average. They did what was expected but did not go out of their way and were not engaging in the ways that we have experienced at many other resorts in Mexico. Would we stay there again? Probably but only for a short amount of time. Unlike other places we love, this resort would tend to bore us if we tried to stay there for an entire week.

We own a unit at the Islander and have traveled here every April & Nov. since it was built. Obviously things change over the years, and sometimes not always for the best. Having said that, the positives include the staff...terrific; and most have been there for many years. The locality is great, and they have made a great investment to keep the beaches and public areas clean, neat and beautiful. It's the little things that need improvement. Their WIFI connections are terrible - slow & unreliable. Their housekeeping staff is so thorough that it takes them 2 hours to clean a villa late in the afternoon when people are leaving the beach to prep for an evening out. The food has declined in quality as prices have risen along with the annual maintenance fee. It's still a great place for a relaxing vacation and would recommend it to newcomers, but would caution new buyers to look around at other properties.

I think service wise, it is great resort but for activities and resort wise, it it not the best.
I stayed 2 weeks in Cancun Hotel zone and Royal is good.... Westin Lagunamar was better by far. When I look at resort, I look at more than just service. Westin is more comteporary and up to date. Swimming pool wise, Westin Lagunamar is outstanding.
One thing I did not like about Royal Islander was the stairs in front. If you have stroller or want to go to your room without using stairs, you have to use service elevator.

I have to be honest and say that I have stayed at this hotel now over 20 times since it was first built. You will never be disappointed, I can assure you that. It is extremely clean and comfortable.
They have two restaurants to choose from, and also two adjoining hotels to boot that you could visit right beside each other with four more restaurants to choose from. They say this is a 3 star, but I give it a 5.

Room Tip: The higher the better and ask for closer to the beach as possible with an ocean view.

First of all the resort is absolutely beautiful.
It is located on a wide white sand beach with villas facing the 3 pools or the Caribbean. Just as great is the wonderful staff that provides top shelf service with a smile everyday.

The food is 5 star whether you eat onsite or at one the Royal properties adjoining The Islander. There is a seperate pool for the
children with the pools surrounded by big
coconut palms.

Go and have the time of your life!

I am sitting at the pool now it is beautiful. But since this is a condo and we did not book Saturday to Saturday (we r staying until Sunday) we have to switch rooms for one night. My husband has been dealing with this change for an hour now and the room they move us to is still dirty!!! Royal resort you need to make this glitch clear when booking midweek!!! I would have never stayed here if I new I had to ruin my last day switching rooms. Also they need our food cards so my 8 year old grand daughter is waiting to eat.
