Spent the first two weeks of November here and what a holiday. From start to finish it was fantastic. The service is second to none with facilities that are superb. The sister hotels of the Royal Caribbean and the Royal Mayan that adjoin it offer everything that a top class hotel can. From entertainment to exercise there is a programme to suit everyone. The in-house travel service of Thomas More Travel offers the best in excursions that you could wish for. We went to Xcaret, swimming with dolphins on Las Islas Mujeres and covered the area's Mayan history. All arranged by Thomas More Travel. A special mention must go to Ricardo who gave us a day to remember taking us on a tour of Mayan villages, Valladolid, temples and swimming in a cenote.
Hacienda Sisal and the Captain's Cove are excellent restaurants owned by the Royal Resorts and offer a variety of international menus. You may see the odd alligator while eating in the Cove which is located on the lagoon side of the Cancun hotel zone. The Hotels themselves sit on a white sand Caribbean beach. All in all a 'must go' beach resort hotel.

Fast, friendly check in. Great one bedroom villa with a great view of pool and ocean. Free shuttle takes you to multiple resorts or can use public bus for 60 cents. Variety of good restaurants at resorts. Thomas Moore on site has many tours available, we went to Xel-ha, Isla Mujeres. Discovered great restaurants in Isla mall 12.5km: La Madonna & Thai. La Habichela Sunset is without walking distance of mall. The pools are nice and the ocean is spectular. The towel hut will let you check out a snorkel mask for free to play in the rough waves which prevents the water from getting in your eyes and burning them. Edwardo gave a great ocean front massage. The welcome party on Sunday had open bar and you could purchase great hamburgers and fish. The staff are very courteous and help you in any way possible. They have daily activities like water aerobics, mini golf, karaoke, casino night, bingo and much more. Great vacation, can't wait to go back. Only negative is the bed was hard.

Room Tip: The higher the better view, but all rooms are good.

Purchased this through Orbitz because of the two bedroom layout and it turned out to be more than I was hoping for! Even though it was just my mom and I, I could see how the units could comfortably sleep 6. I have travelled a lot and this was by far one of the best values I've ever gotten. The front desk gentleman put us on the top floor at the end, which had a fantastic view of the ocean and vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms (and the balconies are great!). However, I think all units would have a great view. Other great things about the room: full kitchen, flat screen TV's in each room, large vanity area, easy to use safes and very comfy beds! We enjoyed the restaurants, drink service on the beach, and especially the shuttle service between the different royal resorts. I also must say that having the Thomas More travel agent right on property was fantastically convenient as we arranged our airport transfer ($20 pp/RT) and tour of Tulum ($49) with extreme simplicity - and the service was great! Even though this wasn't All Inclusive, I don't think I would stay at any other place besides a Royal Resort for my next trip to Cancun.

One more note: as a previous reviewer stated, the average age here is going to be the 50+ crowd but we saw several families and younger couples as well. This isn't the party spot, which normally I would go for - but if you want some peace and quiet and respectful neighbors (EVERYONE was friendly including the other guests), then this is an ideal spot.

Room Tip: Top floors have vaulted ceilings in the bedrooms.

I am partial to this resort because we've owned a timeshare here since it was built in 1993. We rarely exchange our unit because this is 'home' to us for one week each year. We love this resort and all the Royal Resorts so much that we extend our vacation to at least 3 weeks now. You can see the positive reviews here and check the ratings on TUG, Timeshare Users Group. The Royal Resorts are in the top ten worldwide. I think any resort, no matter how beautiful, will not be up to anyone's standards if the service is below par. This is where the Royal Resorts excel. Mind you, this is not a luxury hotel where you expect to be pampered. This is a Club, and members expect the resort to be well-maintained and their needs reasonably addressed. The rooms are very nice, with marble floors, and nice furnishings. We like our penthouse unit, which overlooks the pool and the beautiful beach coast looking south. The sound of the surf is incredible, and you hear it almost constantly, since this part of the coast gets the surf action. It is rarely calm during March, when we visit. The resort has a mini-grocery store that works hard to provide staples, sunscreen, fresh baked goods, produce, and many of the things you might need to make your stay more pleasurable. You can choose from many restaurants among the three resorts that are connected by walkways to the Royal Islander. The Royal Mayan has the Palapa, which is great for buffet breakfast, sitting outdoors in the fresh morning air, with birds singing around you. El Conquistador is their 'dining' restaurant, which requires reservations on most nights. The Royal Caribbean also has a fine restaurant which is indoors, a nice coffee bar, and karaoke bar. The Royal Islander has Paco's Tacos and Cayo Largo, which feature fine local Mexican cuisine. Mayan cuisine is not your standard Tex-Mex fare. The flavors are subtler and less spicy. We cannot get this kind of food here where we live in the States. The daily activities for children and adults is well-planned, and mostly free. For a small charge, you can paint ceramic articles for your own, customized souvenir. This is a photographer's paradise, as you get wonderful vistas of the sea and lagoon from the balconies and walkways of these resorts. There is also an active golf program on the resort, which uses a local golf course across the road. Hop on a bus, or take a taxi to the shopping and nightlife of Cancun....MANY types of places and restaurants to visit. The tour guide at the resort will cater to your wishes and arrange a tour for you. Almost all our guests of the past, have returned to this resort, or purchased units for themselves....this place has kept the magic going. Also, it is not as expensive as you would imagine. The dollar has been stronger than the peso, and you can find many bargains. I can't say enough about how much we enjoy visiting this resort, meeting the friendly people there, and storing up the good memories.

Room Tip: Penthouse units have nicer furnishings and cathedral roofs. Beach front units can be noisier due to...

The Villas are superb, clean, well kept, maintenance is top of the line and the personnel is very friendly. I spent my first vacation interval week this year with my teenagers and it was awesome. Highly recommended, you do not need to leave the place: it has its own grocery store, a deli, a pizzeria, retaurants, gym... you name it.

The Islander was great.... we were definitely impressed. We stayed in a Villa that could have easily slept the 4 max. Our huge king was comfy, we had a slider out to a huge patio, a walk in closet, a vanity area, galley kitchen, dining area, and spacious living room. The decor was nuetral and updated. Nothing over the top Island-like or bright coral colors which I can't stand. Linens were cleaned daily if we wanted and towels were bright and fluffy. The staff was super nice. The pool and pool bar was great, and the beach was great as well with the exception of some rough waters when we were there - maybe the season? Not sure if it is always like that. Food was good - and the resort had a free shuttle to the other resorts in the Royal group for plenty of options with just the swipe of our room card. For more options, we could take the 24 hour bus for 8.50 pesos. We loved Mandala and Carlos & Charlies, and went to Coco Bongo one night as well - So Fun! Overall, a really great timeshare and on our list to revisit when we head back to Cancun. The average age of the other guests was slightly older than us (we are in our early 30s) but it was fine because we could head out for the night and come back to a quiet property. The only thing that left something to be desired was a rather tight combination shower and toilet area but not enough so that it would discourage us from renting or swapping to this location again. There was a good mix of older couples, families, and groups of friends. I would not call it a super romantic atmosphere - but definitely a social one.

We had a blast at this resort last year - our personal concierge (Tarek) was fabulous and took care of all of our reservations and activities. It was a fun resort for everyone - adults and teens alike. All of the staff are attentive and friendly - we never had to wait long for a drink or a bite to eat. The prices were reasonable and it was great to be able to walk or take the free shuttle to the neighboring Royal Resorts properties. We enjoyed the dinner show at Hacienda Sisal and the spa was great at Royal Sands. The only negative comment I have is that the rooms/amenities could be upgraded a bit, but everything was functional. We would definitely stay at this resort or other properties in the Royal Resort chain again!
