Just come back from one of the best holidays ever. We were at the Riu Cariba 03/09/2012, from the moment we arrived we new we had made the right choice. Staff were excellent in checking all the guests in knowing we had a long flight and we arrived mid afternoon. You will not get a better location or better beach location.
Rooms were impressive, clean, shower perfect. Food - wide choice for all tastes. Staff were perfect in every way especially the thompsons rep Christian 10/10 poor bloke never stopped working all day to keep us happy.
Sad to say we are defenatly going to book this one in for next year, so many things we didn't go on, 2 weeks goes so quick when your enjoying yourself

Room Tip: All rooms have sea view, so I wouldn't worry to much about where you are located. Right hand sid...

The hotel and beach are gorgeous. The room and balcony updated nicely, but at first Entrance into room we were hit with a horrible smell. We made a complaint and were told that Cancun had many smells. ???? The Smell was so bad it kept us up at night. We bought room air freshener and plugin at Walmart and it helped very little. Don't stay in junior suite room 405!

Second day at at the Mexican restaurant. Service was good but got sick. Buffet is big but everything kind of tastes the same. Best meal probably breakfast each day. Steak restaurant is the better of the four.

Ended up in the emergency room hospital in Cancun with Vomiting and diareah. Hospital is friendly but if you buy trip insurance as we did, don't expect " no out of pocket expense". The hospital does not recognize or work with any insurance plan. They told us we would have to file for reimbursement.

Our key cards for the hotel door had to
be reset several times. Very annoying.
The staff for the most part is very friendly.

Food servers were excellent. Room maids were excellent. Front desk could use some improvement. They were rude.

Last night there we were kept up until Four AM due to a security guard banging and trying to jimmy the door open next to us. We complained to guard and he just replayed " sorry". Finally called front desk and they acted like they knew nothing about it. Next morning we asked for a late check out so we could sleep in a little and they were very rude to us and said no. We insisted to hear from a manager. A little later we got a note on our door that they would allow us 1 1/2 hour delayed check out but if we went past that, it would be $70 per hour.

The hotel advertises that the small sailboats (catamarans) are all-inclusive but when you try to use them they insist you pay for sailing coarse for instruction. If you don't want to do that they tell you that if they have to come help you, that you will be charged a rescue fee of $45. Not friendly and not helpful!

The best thing about this resort is their beach. Very clean and beautiful. A few rocky areas but not bad. Snorkeling off the man-made reef was fun. Saw so many different kinds of fish. If you want to set under shade you do have to go out very early to get a place because people go out early and lay towels out to reserve.

Just got home today from a two week stay.

ROOMS: Room was very clean and loved the cabinet of liquor in it! We stayed on the 9th floor and had a fantastic pool and ocean view.

BEACH & POOL: The beach was gorgeous . The pool was amazing and big! It has a swim-up bar with stools. Never went without a sun bed and NOBODY put towels out to reserve.

FOOD: Food was fantastic plenty of choice, big selection with the buffe every night.. Would strongly recomend the ribeye at the steak bar, asian and mexican restaurants very good.

STAFF: Staff were very friendly and would do anything for you,

FIRST CLASS HOTEL AND STAFF

Room Tip: 9th floor room 947 FANTASTIC views.

Sea view, Optics in the room, minibar replenished every other day, fab food, what else can I say!

On arrival we landed in the mid of a tropical storm-not the best start but we settled in had a few beers and the next day it was paradise.

Hotel staff cant do enough for you, we were asked by several different levels of management how we were enjoying our stay at various stages of our holiday. This was not intrusive but a nice touch. Room was immaculate with huge walk in shower. Our room 509 was out on the edge of the hotel the last before the end suites and had a great view over the pool to the ocean.

Pools are warm and the in pool sun beds are ace. Sea is clean and also warm with fish to snorkel with. poolside bars cater for your needs during the day.

The 3 a la carte restaurants are good and make a nice change from the buffet. All the food is good quality and the service is good too.

Only thing we didn't like but it grew on us was the lobby reception area-its not air conditioned which makes it hot and full of mosquitoes. It has also just been re furbished and painted which is nice except its orange and white-we thought it was an easy jet hotel! However after a few days you get used to it.

Buses stop outside and for 8.5 pesos(40p) you can travel up and down the hotel zone-its quite an experience as they are all in competition with each other and race from bus stop to bus stop!

Would recommend a night at Coco Bongo and go VIP its worth every penny.

Weather was great after the initial storm-you will need factor 30 or more even if you tan.

If you get bitten by mosquitoes anywhere else they will eat you here-I had over 30 bites-tip take anti histamines every day and they don't react so they go away quickly.

Would definitely go back - this was the most relaxing holiday I have ever had!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor as the lower ones views could be obstructed by the palm trees and there is less...

I stayed here with my wife and we had a really good time, I am a customer care professional, so here is my professional opinion: the service was excellent, specially this girl named: tomasa,so please if someone from the hotel reads this review please let her know in public how good she is,she makes the difference, the only EXCEPTION: the 2 girls at the front desk, the worst customer service in the world, they are extremely RUDE , and they think they do not need any more customers, we travel a lot, around central and south america at least thre times a year, and we had never seen this kind of customer service is really bad, (I`m just talking about those 2 girls at the front desk), other than that everything was execellent,
By the way at the front desk they do not inform to you at the check in that you have to pay US$ 11,00 FOR EACH LOCAL PHONE CALL made from your room, (for laest than 3 minutes).

Just returned from the RIU Caribe , we had a fantastic holiday , the hotel has been renovated recently to a nice standard , it had 3 Al a carte Restaurants , Asian , Smokehouse and Mexican , the Asian and smokehouse were excellent but the Mexican was average to be honest , the pool and swimup bar were the best we have ever experienced, all the staff were fantastic and could'nt do enough for you , we travelled with Thompson who I thought spent a lot of time trying to get money out of your pocket , the trips from the hotel were vastly over priced , I know that local trips are always cheaper booked outside of the hotel but these were Ridiculous. Our rep was OK and did'nt push the trips as they now don't get commission anymore, on the flight Thompsons offered 8 films to watch but unless you paid £5 pp you only had a choice of the worst 4 of them, The headphones that they offered free outbound and collected by the attendants on arrival were charged at £2.50, want to sit together ? another £15 pp each way , need more baggage allowance 3 kgs was £35,, bargain ! we visited the other RIU hotels nearby and they were also fantastic ,would return no problem to the hotel but would try to go with another company that did'nt try to bleed you dry.The only slight problem we had with the hotel was when we were sat outside on the veranda after the show , at approx 11.15 the lights and ceiling fans were switched off even though the waitresses were still serving till midnight , surely not energy saving ? , all in all a great hotel and staff , great food and top branded drinks, great pool , beach and sea .
