I have stayed at several RIU's and the best way to put it is you get what you pay for, however at this particular RIU we got far less. The hotel rooms were actually OK, we requested an ACTUAL king size bed instead of 2 beds pushed together, and we got it, i should have wondered why immediatly....there were about 50 people in the entire resort. Much has to do with the entire right wing being closed for renovation and the new RIU hotel that they building next door. The grounds were barely OK, we stayed at the RIU Cancun on the same vacation and this hotel doesnt even come close. The RIU entertainment team were mediocre. The nightly shows were great, (Michael Jackson, and Casino Night were my 2 favorites) however they were presented in a tented outdoor setting which just wasnt very nice. It is a MUCH older hotel that needs ALOT of work. I would not recommend this hotel... sorry

Room Tip: Make sure if you are a traveling couple you ask for a REAL KING bed if that is what you want, otherw...

Loved everything about this resort. Keep in mind what you pay for your trip is what your going to get. I would consider this hotel 3 1/2 to 4 star resort as far as room comfort, etc. Rooms are dated but how much time are you going to spend in your room. This hotel had 5 star service everyone we encountered was very nice and friendly. Made you definitely feel welcome. The food was also amazing. Anyone who complains about the food is crazy their is a wide selection to choose from. There was sushi almost every night and they had anything from hamburgers to hot dogs to crab to roast turkey...fish chicken pork a huge salad bar. There is also food available 24/7 in the Sports bar there is a sandwich case and also chips and liquid cheese. The drinks are plentiful and they will make anything you request. One night they had a martini bar set up in the lobby. A whole martini list is also available at the bar. Cerveza on resort is Dos Equois. And to everyone who is there...a tip goes a long way...didnt see a whole lot of tippers. These people make very little money and work very hard. Pool area very nice as well as the beach. Didnt do any of the entertainment..but we enjoyed a nice relaxing wonderful vacation. Would definitely return. I think you will be very happy at this resort.

Room Tip: Ask for room 6 and above

Have had 3 great holidays til this year thanks to thomson / First Choice not telling us that the hotel is having a big make over 200 rooms are closed. when you arrive at the airport in Cancun you are told by the rep that they want to move you to Riviera Maya which is 11/2 hour away from Cancun. It do's not even tell you on the internet when you make your booking so be careful when you make a booking a big thank you to Thomson/first Choice for spoiling what should have been a great holiday; never will i book with Thomson or First Choice. THIS WORK IS ONGOING FOR 12 MONTHS THOMSON WILL NOT TELL YOU THIS

We decided to take a short five day getaway after summer and loved it! The weather was beautiful, it barely sprinkled the first morning we were there. After that it was sunny and warm by 9 am and stayed warm enough to swim and lay out. It wasn't too packed since kids are back in school but I still prefer adults only resorts for relaxing. The hotel was clean and the food was good. The beach needed to be raked since it had too much seaweed and you could smell it when laying on the lounge chairs. As far as the reception desk staff, check in and check out were easy, the operator was kind of snotty and acted like any other requests were below her, (all I asked for was a phone call to our room when a package was delivered). The wait staff were good when indoors but once outdoors it took a which to get drinks and there wasn't poolside service, :( I know I'm probably just spoiled, but hey I'm on vacation right? The location was close enough to all the hotel zone fun without being in the middle of it. We rented a car for the same price as a cab ride to and from the airport.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the third floor and up to see full view of the property and ocean.

Everything was great, except the service at the buffet was sometimes lacking. and the hot tub was somewhat of a joke.Worst thing was that we finally had to go home.

We were there the frist week in Oct, 2011. This was the 8th time to Mexico. 5 times to Cancun and 3 times tp P.V.. And this was the best resort that we have been to. The staff was very friendly. The shows was great. I had some form of shrimp every dinner, one night they had crab. Try to eat at the Steakhouse and Mexican restaurants they are super good. I will go back to a Rui resort again.

Room Tip: Stay up high for the ocean view

My girlfriend and I stayed here for 6 nights. It was an enjoyable stay and I felt we received good value for our money. The staff was always friendly and helpful; the food was good (except for the Asian restaurant), the bar tenders kept the drinks coming, and the entertainment staff was always trying to get people involved. When it comes to travel you usually get what you pay for and Riu Caribe was one of the cheaper all inclusive options. I see a lot of reviews complaining about the quality of the resort but it is a 3 star, it was marketed to us as a 3 star, and we paid 3 star prices. A couple issues with the place and they were all very minor; there were periods of time when you couldn’t get any food (like late in the evening) and between 10:30 and noon (I tend to stay up late and not wake up early) and the beds weren’t all that comfortable (like every other hotel), but beyond that it was exactly what I expected..

We ate at all of the restaurants. Definitely do the Steakhouse and the Mexican restaurant, skip the Asian, super super bad.
There is an outdoor bar where you can order personal pizzas, that place was really good. It has an excellent view and was never crowded (the pizza was good too).

I highly recommend this place to the college crowd, they had a drink dispensing cabinet with 4 liters of hard alcohol attached to the wall in our room and a mini fridge stocked with beer, soda, and bottled water (refilled every other day or upon request). Also, the resort is at a good location in the resort zone. Not too far from the clubs and Playa Tortuga where a lot of the trips to Isle De Mujeres depart from. The hotel has a Bus stop right in front and is located directly across the street from a reputable water activity operator.

We were off season so I can’t comment on what the place is like when it’s really busy but I expect it to be a giant party. Cheers to the entertainment staff.

Note – There is construction going on at the hotel. We were staying at the other end so we couldn’t hear it in our room. You could hear it at the pool though they quit pretty early in the day. We found that you could not hear it at the beach. You have been warned as we were before we went so don’t come complaining about it later.
