I got back from a 2 week stay at the Barcelo Costa Cancun yesterday and loved it . Our room was exactly as described and photographed in the brochure. The room was really big, had a gorgeous view of the sea, the shower was really great and there was always hot water, our mini bar was filled with soft drinks, water, lager and snacks everyday. The room was also cleaned everyday and fresh towels and sheets changed.

We ate at the buffet restaurant for breakfast each day and sometimes on a lunch and evening time, there was a good selection of food and drinks including cocktails, the staff were really friendly and helpful. We also ate at all three a la carte restaurants (Spanish Mexican and Seafood) they were all excellent . There was a 24 hour snack and drinks bar on the 2nd floor which we used a few times and this was a good option if we had missed meal times, it had salads hot dogs pizza a selection of spirits, corona and soft drinks. In the snack bar there was internet access too which cost around £3 for half an hour.

The hotel has a large pool and small beach area which were both lovely and beach towels were provided. During the day there were lots of activities i did aqua aerobics and water polo this was really fun, they also did beach and water volley ball among other things. The staff in the entertainment team were lovely Alberto Jo Octavio Ivania and Jimmy and one other who's name i have forgotten ( i might have spelt them wong too). We booked a night out with the hotel to Coco Bongo's and were expecting to be dropped off at the club . The entertainment team came in with us and stayed looking after us and making sure we had a great night. I would recommend going on club nights with the hotel we didnt have to queue and had a seperate area of the club with a bar and staff bringing us drinks.

We saw 2 of the shows whilst in the hotel a Micheal Jackson Tribute and a Carribean show , these were both really good . The dancers were very talented and the shows were professional and well put together.

Mario helped us to book some really brilliant trips and spent time explaining the trips to us in detail and giving us advice on what to take with us . This really helped us to decide which ones to choose. The trips we went on were Coba Maya Encountar expedition with alltournative, Xel-ha and Tulum, chichen Itza and Isla Mujares they were all amazing.

The experience we had staying in this hotel was down to the staff they were helpful and so friendly. Throughout our time at the Barcelo we got to know them and it sounds strange but you really feel your part of something there and it was really sad to leave. Mexico is an unbelievable place to visit and there are so many amazing things to see there, the mayan culture , jungle and beaches are stunning . I found everything about this hotel to be brilliant and would definately go back if i had the chance to.

Well here goes... Me and a mate of mine stayed here from the 20th - 27th Sep. Perfect weather... Beach is very small but cosy and clean. The beach does have a lot of seaweed but there are a family constantly sweeping it up.

The hotel is a very nice and clean hotel but its also very small and boring. the only activities we could do was play Volleyball or Bingo.

The food in the A la Cartes are really nice. But the food in the snack bar and main buffet are horrendous. This is were most people ate that had food poisioning. And quite a few had food poisioning.

The Beach bar closes at 11 and the lobby bar closes at 12... which we found stupid. After this time you had to go up to a small landing and get your own drinks... this is where a fight kicked off between two women and a coke'd up scouser.

In general I found the hotel to be a nice one, but far too quiet and boring. If you want a total chill out this takes a chill out to the extreme level.

If you go around the corner to the marina to the left (3-5min walk) you will get Jet Skis for $33 for 40 mins. the hotel charges $45 for 30mins. Also we went deep sea fishing and caught loads of Tuna, Snapper, etc... there was 5 of us that went and we got it for $470 not $650 what the hotel wanted. the Chef did a lovely job with one of the Tuna we caught.. he cooked it for us free of charge and it was the best meal of the holiday

The buses outside the hotel into town are a fun experience... and put spanish taxis drivers to shame... the bus drivers are proper speed maniacs... but its cheap at about 80p a trip

I enjoyed the break but not this hotel. If i was to go back to Mexico I would not stay at this hotel.

The hotel could be so much better if they turned the beach bar into a nightclub and improved the entertainment team, running more activities.

My friends and I traveled to this hotel earlier this month on a girls only trip! First of all, the staff along with the visitors were not fond of Americans at all! Rude comments throughout our 5 day stay, along with being ignored at the bar to even get water! The one decent staff member was their security guard which doubled as their First Aid crew that assisted me while I was there. The front desk gal told us that if we decided to change dollars to pesos we could change back whatever we didn't end up using. WRONG! We were stuck with pesos until we arrived at the airport which had a horrible exchange rate (fyi). If you are trying to call home, by your phone card in the states (or where ever you live). They have one phone that actually allows you to make outgoing calls with a phone card. This made for lines and some frustrated people. Not that we needed it but you have to pay seperately for internet usage. The nighly entertainment was poor, one group was fairly talented but other than that it felt as if they sent out a annoucement to the entire community that read "If you have any desire to TRY to dance and entertain, apply here." It was awful to the point where people walked away because it was a waste of time. I love to play volleyball and their net was ghetto tied by part of the netting and tape with a big dip in the middle of the net. The idea to get everyone playing and involved was a disaster. They need friendlier staff members that have more communication and people skills. Lastly, their food selection was rather poor. We pratically ended up eating at place the entire rest of the stay. Ask for Marc Antonio, he is an amazing server! All in all, save your money and go else where.

we stayed at this hotel from the 6th to the 20th of september and thought the hotels was fantastic. the hotel is spotless and the staff are fantastic.
ok the rooms, we had a basic room they are good size and spotless the beds are comfey to.the airconditing works really well. only a few points the safety deposit boxes have a barrel and key which you have to carry the key with you. and the staff are in and out of your room all day. if you are in your room put the lock on as they knock and walk straight in.
the drinks are good also and you do not have to wait long to be served at all.
The food this is a major down point. the buffet food was not nice at all but the spanish and seafood retaurants are lovley. and the 24 hour bar is fresh and quite good.
the pool and beach are clean and well maintained, the beach is small but big enough and there are waiters that come round the pool bringing you drinks.
the entertainment staff are always doing activitys from about 11am the problem being if you just want to relax around the pool or beach no chance as they take over the pool with games like basketball and volleyball till about 5pm. and omg they shout down the microphone so loud you can not just relax and they only have one pool.
the nigh time entertainment is awfull same ppl and same women in bra and thongs trying to dance round thye stage. the micheal jackson show is fantastic tho.
you can get a bus from outside the hotel which goes anywere you want to go and are quick and cheap.
if you go shopping around town or to the clubs be carefull as you get offered drugs everywere.
i would go back to cancun but not this hotel just due to the food and the fact you can not just sit around the pool and relax.

me & my partner along with two friends went to this hotel in aug. it is our 2nd time in mexico but 1st time for our friends. after a long flight it was a relief to find that the airport has very muched changed from the 1st time we were there, we were in & out in no time, unlike the 1st time as it felt we were in a cattle market!!. the transfer is no longer than 1/2 hour & the check-in at the hotel was very quick & efficent.
rooms: we were located on the ground floor overlooking the gardens, our friends were also located on the ground floor overlooking the pool & entertainment. the rooms were very spacious & clean. they had two double beds which come in handy for when you have a row lol!! mini bar was very well stocked with drinks & the t.v had quite a few english channels. aircon in the room was very good but we found the room to be cool without the aircon so didnt always use it. the bathroom was also very clean & a huge walk-in shower. the maids came in every day with fresh bedding & towels.
pool: the pool was a decent size & you always managed to find a sunbed. there was music played & activities everyday round the pool such as water volleyball, water basketball, water balloon fights in the pool & bingo. the only fault we had with the pool was when you wore anything white to go in the pool in it sent your clothing yellow, but luckily it came out when we washed our clothing.
beach: the beach was lovely, the sand wasnt too hot & the sea was clear & nice to cool off in. it is located right next to the entrance of the lagoon so you will often see boats coming past. you can hire jet-ski's & canoes(which are free) from the hut but if you go round the corner you can get the jet-skis cheaper & for longer. the beach bar is good & also does snacks 1pm-5pm which are nice if you dont fancy the buffet but it does get busy around that time so you can sometimes be waiting a while for a drink!
restaurants: we only ate at the buffet restaurant but there are 3 other restaurants you can also eat at, these are al a carte so you do need to book, we never ate at these so can't comment on them. in the buffet restaurant you always managed to get a table but the food was hit & miss!! if u have children then there isn't a great deal for them.
location: we thought the location was good, it was only a short bus journey into cancun town but it far enough so if you did want a relaxing time then you could have that. the buses are very cheap so DONT get any taxis. it cost 8.5 pesos for the bus which is about 50p & you can go as far as you like, although they run 24hrs they dont have as many buses running on the night as they would have in the day. we got a taxi on one occasion & it cost us 70pesos & then he wanted a tip so in total cost us 100pesos!!
nightlife: you will only find bars & clubs in cancun town. the bars are slighty expensive for drinks so i suggest if you do want a night out then drink at the hotel before you go the clubs! all the clubs are all inclusive, but once in there tipping is a must if u want a waiter comin over to you reguraly. when we went out to the clubs we booked with the hotel as you get transport to the club & then a vip area once in there, (see the entertainment staff round the pool & lobby bar of a night time for this). coco bongo's nightclub is a must for everybody, is has a range of ages in there as it's not a typical nightclub, it is vegas shows & entertainment all night, we went there on our 1st time to mexico & it was just as good the 2nd time.
trips: when booking trips we always booked with either the people by reception or the hut next to the pool, at least you know you will be going on your trip & you have not booked with some joe bloggs off the street in town. we went to th island of isla mujers where you go snorkelling have dinner, you can hire a golf buggy at an extra cost but is worth doing! you get to drive round the island & see how the locals live, very fasinating.!! we did quite a few trips as it breaks your holiday up abit. one trip that is definately worth doing is the pirate ships which are located right next to hotel, it is a fab night & the food is very good, steak, chicken, salads, pastas, jacket spuds, garlic bread. very much worth the money. the alcohol is constantly flowing & by the end of the night everyone is up dancing!!
eating out: as i said the food at the hotel was hit & miss so we went out quite a few times of a lunchtime & only a couple of times of an evening. of a lunchtime we mainly went to a place called hooters which is in la isla shopping mall. its the closest you will get to english food with them selling chicken & curly fries!! if you want to treat yourselves on the evening like we did then try out ruth & chri's steakhouse, very nice but very pricey!!
overall our stay at barcelo was very enjoyable the service was great & would definitaly recommend this hotel to anyone

The hotel was very nice - just as pictured online. The room was generally well maintained - however, the air conditioning broke on the 3rd day of our stay and could not be fixed within a timely manner, so we had to switch into a double room (from a King), which was extremely inconvenient. The staff did not try to compensate us in any way for this inconvenience. The food at the buffet was mediocre but had a variety of options, so even as a picky eater, I was able to find something I liked. The 3 restaurants were great though - great quality, fresh food. I thought all of the wait staff was extremely courteous and professional. We would definitely go back to this hotel, it is a great deal for the price!
