“Great Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

We stayed for 5 nights in early December. We have been to at least eight All Inclusives in Cancun and this one ranked up there. We had booked a regular room but we upgraded to an oceanfront. The room was great and it had a private 'patio' with a hammock, table and chairs and two lounge chairs. The patio was private with nothing above it but the sky. We were at first turned off by the 2nd floor 'buffet which had dried out hot dogs and hamburgers. We then went to lunch at one of the restaurants and had the most delicious grouper dinners we ever had. We booked there the next day and had a New York strip steak that was well seasoned and tender. We repeated that on another night. The breakfast buffet was great with eggs made to order and lots of fruits and Danish. The beer was Corona and most of the AI's in Mexico do not serve that except as an upgrade. Some of the shows were loud but we did not go there to sleep all of the time and they were over by 10:30 PM or so. We had read a lot of bad revues about this place but did not find any of those negatives during our stay. Also it pays to tip the servers every once in awhile. I rate the food a little lower because of the 2nd floor buffet.

Room Tip: Corner ocean front rooms are scenic.

What a complete disaster this place is. We thought we were lucky to get a room ( high season everywhere was sold out) but little did we know. Let's start with the beer. Corona light. I don't know if you can water down beer, whatever. Drank about 30 of those little cups they give you. Didn't even pass out. If only. Get to that later. The food sucked. What ever your thinking, it's worse then that. The only thing we liked was the roasted chicken. All inclusive. Never again. Ever. Uneatable crap.
Now the fun part. The Concerts they have every night. You literally cant hear the tv turned all the way up. The band played till 10:30 then the karaoke started. Wow. They turned it down a little. Got to sleep about 2 am. I was so pissed off I yelled at the band. Of course they couldn't hear me. There were no other rooms to go to. The only good thing about this hell hole is leaving it.

Room Tip: Just don't. There are no good rooms here. Not unless you like to stay up all night being forced...

This hotel is terrible. But i'll start with the positives. The entertainment guides were nice and friendly, along with most of the staff. The spa was nice and relaxing, lots of varieties from a sauna, steam room, ice bath, and hot tub, along with almost a full gym. Actually, thats really the only positives. The food was absolutely terrible, most of it was pre cooked and just heated up. Coming from america, when i travel I like to have a comfort food, along with trying other types of food. This hotel had 4 restaurants. A buffet, another restaurant that seemed like a buffet, but it was only open at certain times, a seafood place and a mexican place. The buffet had nothing appetizing being from america. They had burgers and hot dogs, but the burgers were frozen and heated up, and the hotdogs looked completely pink. I went most of my 6 day trip without eating. You have to make reservations here and if you dont, good luck getting into one of the main restaurants. Next, is the WIFI. This hotel makes you pay for wifi, and trust me, it isnt cheap. My friend and i purchased a wifi card for 540 pesos, approximately $41 for 6 days. The wifi did not work in our room, nor the main lobby, and we learned that each person has to purchase wifi for each individual device. Next, the bar service. The bartenders only make drinks for who they want. I waited at one of the bars for 15 minutes for a coke without being served, yet women would walk up and get served right away. Sexist? The beach was maybe 100 feet long, and most of it was covered in palm trees, so you can't get a tan. Next, the rooms were so dark you couldnt tell that the lights were even on. The bathroom was cleaned around 5 p.m. and you're without towels for most of the day. Room upgrades are $50, just to get an ocean view. The beds were so uncomfortable i got maybe 20 hours of sleep in the 6 days i was there. There were only three outlets in the entire room, which is stupid because only one is located by the two beds. The hotel is about a 25 minute bus ride from any places downtown, such as coco bongo, which really affects transportation. i would not recommend this hotel to anyone, it was honestly terrible.

Well what a great hotel, probably one of the best I have ever had the pleasure of staying at. I stayed here in November & really enjoyed it. The room was amazing with a king size bed & a large power shower. There is a mini bar in the room, which is re-stocked everyday with soft drinks & alcoholic beers also, peanuts & chocolate bars. The hotel facilities are brilliant there are three all ala carte restaurants, we ate in two & actually did not book, however I would recommend that you do as it did not seem to be that busy but I assume when it starts to get more holiday makers then it will be very busy & you will not just be able to walk in. The buffet style restaurant is brilliant a different theme every night & some of the regular foods do make an appearance each night, which is good if you really like something, the pasta station is yummy when it is out and also the breakfast in the morning the egg station is amazing. There is also a snack bar above the reception area & we would go there if we had an early morning excursion, as it is available 24 hours. The staff are absolutely amazing & the hardest working I have ever seen, thank you for looking after us. There is a beach bar available & an area of beach just for the hotel holidaymakers, which is nice with more than enough sun beds. We did some great excursions whilst we were in Cancun & we booked all of these through our Thomas Cook representative Craig he is great & will help you with any questions that you have, the TC Project is a MUST if you want to experience some of the Cancun nightlife.

I spend four night with my mom in all included, and everything was good, the food, the staff, the location, the rooms. Definitely we will be back. The shows at night were very good also. the only problem that we had was the door, we couldn't open the door couple times, but no big deal we went to the front desk and was fixed right away.

We are regular travellers and we spent our first Christmas in a hot and sunny destination this year. I have to say we are so happy we chose this hotel! We were treated like special guests every day - no long waits for a pool chair or a beach chair, the beach was immaculate, the staff were so friendly (the maintenance staff included, always a smile and an hola) and the food was good. We ate mostly at the buffet because we have two small children but the variety was good. The kids club staff were great with the kids - Eden especially, she made sure the kids were surprised and delighted with the gifts we brought for them on Christmas eve! We didn't leave our kids at the club for more than an hour but Eden remembered them and made sure they were included in building sandcastles and a beach soccer game. We also liked how the kids had their own special fiesta with pinatas and onstage fun. The entertainment staff were fun and we booked our dolphin/wet and wild park excursion along with a para-sailing afternoon through the event staff at the pool. They recommended the activities which turned out to be a lot of fun and exactly what we were expecting. Special mention to Pepe Hernandez in the restaurant - my little girls thought he was the greatest - he always came by to chat and make us feel so welcome and special - the same for the lovely girl whose name I didn't get who greeted and seated us each morning, her smile was genuine. The only complaint I would have is the beds - the rooms were spotless as was the rest of the property but the beds were hard. We like a soft bed so it was a big adjustment. I asked the front desk for a soft pillow and it arrived within minutes, our fridge was always stocked and the maid never failed to ensure it was sparkly clean and fresh when we returned. We would definitely consider Barcelo for our next year's trip. Many thanks!

Room Tip: Our room was a standard double with a tiny terrace - no upgrade as the hotel was full but I would sa...
