This was my first time staying in an al-inclusive resort, and though I was hesitant about spending the extra money, Barcelo was great. There were four restaurants: a buffet, a Spanish place, a seafood place, and a Mexican place. Though all were quite nice, only two buffets were open for breakfast and lunch. The resort also had two bars, and since we purchased the all-inclusive package, it was an open bar for us all week. Waiters would walk around the pool and beach and offer to refill drinks or get you a new one, which was really awesome.
The beach area has a ton of lounge chairs as well as water equipment for rental (non-motorized are free), but was a little small. The best time to go is early morning, as there is almost nobody at the beach, which is great for reading or relaxing.
Our room was also pretty nice, about average for nicer hotels in the United States.
The staff was always friendly and courteous, and the front desk exchanged other currencies for pesos at a very good rate.
The only negative was that the night entertainment and loud noises from the bar would sometimes go past midnight and we heard it all from our rooms.
Other than that, it was a great stay!More
