“The Royal Elite membership rooms are fantastic”
Reviewed January 12, 2014

We stayed one week with our family in one of the time shared apartments with the Elite membership. The service was just amazing and the rooms clean, beautiful and modern. If there was anything to improve was their buffets. Food at the buffets was terrible except for the their taco party for the Elite members. There they got a 10 with the food and entertainment. Wish they would do the same with the rest of their dinner buffets. Beef fajitas "a la carte" were excellent as well as their margaritas. Breakfast buffet was also quite good.

Room Tip: All rooms have a nice view and the beach is great with no big waves in this part of Cancun.

They delayed our being able to go to the room, so that we had to listen to a request to do a timeshare pitch. Finally, after being more than adamant that we were not interested, we were able to go to our rooms. This is extremely annoying and very rude.Management should review this strategy immediately.

My girlfriends and I have gone there for winter trips for the past 6 years. Each time we get a different room configuration, never a bad one. One year we even brought our husbands.
We have a great time, but if you want lots of fun at night, you must go to the clubs. CM hosts the various clubs each night. You get a ride there, but have to find your own way home.
Best beach around, great servers on the beach, prices are reasonable. Nummy pizzas.
Get up at dawn if you want a good lounger at the beach. Towels save.
We stock up at Walmart when we arrive and between our own meals and the food from the restaurant, we never go hungry. No ovens in kitchen. Coolers ok on the beach.
A quiet place. Sometimes the lounge bar is closed at night, which is never good.
That's why we bring a "gang" and make our own fun!
The staff at the pool are the greatest. Water exercise is fun, but pool is deep, so short people work to stay afloat. I love the yoga, too.

Room Tip: Stay away from elevators. Ding! Ding! Ding! All night long.

I purchased a timeshare here in 1998, I Love the location the people get to know you and they work very hard. the Management could use some help. This resort use to have what they call a Party for the owners and visitors but now You pay for this and there was not a show the last time I was there 2 years ago and took 2 people with me to show them how wonderful people are here at Casa Maya. The older building does need more work on the rooms. The new Management is putting money into the building next door. The updates that were suppost to happen never happened. But I am looking forward to going there this spring! It is a great place to go

Room Tip: Ask for the new building if you want the best rooms

First of all, I would definitely stay at this location again, because it has a lot of great things to say about it. That said, there are some definite things that I would change about the hotel as well. First, we arranged our transportation from and to the hotel thru the hotel. The shuttle was about 40 minutes late picking us up even though we had provided them our flight info long ago and confirmed everything the day before arrival. Upon arriving at the hotel, they delayed our being able to go to the room, so that we had to listen to a request to do a timeshare pitch. Finally, after being more than adamant that we were not interested, we were able to go to our room on the 6th floor. The room was great with the exception of the very worn and stained carpet. We had sleeping for 6 although we only had four in our group. There was a full kitchen minus an oven, and we loved having that. View was nice as we could see the ocean and the harbor area as well as the more touristy area of Cancun. As another guest commented, the breakfast buffet is AWESOME! Also, the beach is large and due to the location of the hotel, the waters are not rough. It is convenient to walk to several places although the bus is necessary to go to places like Market 28, WalMart, etc. Market 28 is a must if looking for souvenirs. The staff is pleasant and we loved playing beach volleyball almost everyday at 3pm. Check out was a breeze, and we were all sad to be leaving and going back to cold weather.

Room Tip: We stayed in tower 1 which was nice, because it is connected to the restaurant and front desk, etc.

3rd time staying here and 3rd time loving it. We have an Ambassador Elite one bedroom unit. These are their newer renovated units-spacious and beautifully decorated. Sleeps 6. Staff are fabulous, constantly cleaning and always happy to help. The beach area is extensive for Cancun and there is not much sea weed and the ocean is gentle. No down side to this place! Only reason it does not earn a 5 is that the exterior could use a good paint job and the Elite private beach cabanas need to be leveled and painted as well. Love the location too!

We traded into Casa Maya on Interval International and were very displeased with room 2804 which smelled of insecticide and mildew. We told the staff and they told us to wait in the room. An hour later we called down and explained we were patiently waiting for the promised assistance. They admitted the room had been sprayed for bugs. They offered us another room which we looked at. It was marginally better but much smaller and had no balcony so we decided to try to air out 2804. We kept the balcony doors open for two days. The bug spray smell dissipated but the mildew smell increased every time we ran the noisy air conditioner which was unresponsive to buttons supposed to control fan speed. The only speed was high and loud. The hotel has seen better days. It was very run down and no where close to the usual Cancun standards of better, current resorts. We were promised a kitchenette. After having to request plates and utensils they were piled on top of an ancient microwave. There was no table to prepare food next to the microwave and dishes had to be washed in our bathroom sink. Welcome to your kitchen (see photo). On the plus side, the staff tried to be helpful although spraying deodorant on bug spray and mildew does not really help things. I cannot in good conscience recommend this place to fellow travelers. Caveat emptor.

Room Tip: It may be that the 1 building is in better shape than the 2 but we do not know this for certain. Th...
