“Quiet and clean hotel on the beach”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Older hotel but nice. Good service. Clean pools and beach. Very helpful staff. Nice views from the rooms. There is a very quiet pool next to building 2 by the spa that is very relaxing. Beds are a little hard. Small workout facility but effective. Prepay for a few buffets and drink tickets to save $$$.

Room Tip: They say building 2 has nicer rooms. And ask for mattress pads if you don't like a firm bed.

The customer service was great from the get go . They provided an excellent experience for first timers in Mexico . I do suggest asking the shuttle service for more than the 50 minutes they allow you when arriving internationally . Customs alone took about an hour. Overall the hotel and grands are beautiful . True paradise at Casa Maya .

Casa Maya was one of the first hotels ever developed on the Cancun beach strip, so everyone knows it. As such, it is older and smaller than the new mega resorts. However, there are some advantages to that. For starters, despite being a full-service hotel, you won't be obligated to an all-inclusive meal package. Casa Maya is less crowded, has a private beach with a large sandbar, friendly staff, good service, and larger than average rooms. Although the room decor is dated, it remains functional. The resort is comprised of 2 towers, 2 pools, 1 kiddie pool, 2 large hot tubs, gym/spa, beautiful beach, pool-side restaurant and beach bar. Onsite amenities include volleyball, ping pong, snorkeling, beach sports, etc. The gym/spa is modest but is good enough for a rewarding workout. The hotel is located at about mile market 5km, which means that you can easily access the facilities of downtown Cancun or the amenities of the entire strip. Free parking is available which we appreciated since we rented a car.

Stay here for the beach and great value. This is a great inexpensive place to stay if you are looking to get away for a couple of days and are looking to see what Cancun offers outside of the resort. I would not recommend this hotel if you are wanting to hang out at the resort all day/night. I traveled alone and felt safe here for 3 nights.

I paid for the upgrade room with stove, etc. and it was so worth it.

Room Tip: The upgrade was definitely a must when staying at a NON-AL

We stayed at Casa Maya last october. Beautiful beach we should have sleot on the beach. My husband had an attack of bed bug itis I did not but I travel with my own sheets and pillows, He will too from now on. The time share sales pitch is like being held hostage so do not even let them start on you. You do not get the key to your room tillyou listen to their speil. Find another place that has a nice beach

Room Tip: choose the beach

The folks at Casa Maya were customer focused and easy to deal with all week. The rooms need to be updated, the beds are poor. The beach is a real standout, really mellow and a nice place to swim. I would stay here again in spite of the hard bed, just for the excellent service.

I have been going to Casa Maya for over 12 years now and here are a few tips for travelers

Preface - if you are a rich snob looking for the best of everything don't stay here, this is just a nice average place with friendly people and excellent service. If you treat the staff here with respect and a smile you will get that in return. We have stayed in Cancun at the mega resorts and keep coming back here to avoid the crowds, drunk people, and poor food that usually comes with the all inclusive resorts

Check in - why wait in the lobby for your representative, pack a swimsuit and change in the lounge restroom and hit the beach, don't worry they will find you to give you the meet and greet and give you your room keys

Food - we love this place because it is not all inclusive and only eat lunch on the beach or the breakfast buffet here. There are so many great restaurants in Cancun why eat dinner at the resort. By the way in my opinion the breakfast buffet is a way better deal than lunch on the beach, all you can eat plus omelets, tacos, fruit, and more

Rooms - the rooms are spacious but the beds are hard - does not bother me however as I am worn out from the sun and beach volleyball everyday - remember this place is a beach location so if you are like me the only time spent in the room is to shower or sleep

Transportation - take the bus, it is cheap and easy but note that it is crowded on the way back to the hotel from around 5-8 pm with all the locals returning home form work. Taxis are less expensive than in the US and we only take them if it is raining

Drinks and snacks - if you need to save some money go to Wallmart to pick up some snacks and drinks to get you through the week or hit the bar at happy hour for the 2 for 1 drink specials before heading out on the town

Room Tip: the higher floor rooms seem to be in better shape than others
