This was our first trip to Cancun. We used their private shuttle service from the airport which cost a little more than a group shuttle service but reduced the ride time considerably.

Casa Maya is a very clean and friendly resort providing daily maid service if wanted. Their beach has beautiful white sand (water shoes not needed) and warm water. Accommodations and activities are extensive. We had a one bedroom unit with a fully equipped kitchen in order to enjoy a lot of our meals "at home". For adventure we rode the public buses for a couple of days to "check out the area" without the stress of driving. After becoming familiar with the area we rented our car at the resort which proved to be convenient, inexpensive and efficient.

One drawback was the pressure we received from the time share representative who tried to speak with us immediately after we registered. We refused this conversation since we were stressed and exhausted after enduring a full day of travel. As timeshare owners we are very familiar with "upgrade" sales tactics and we resented being held "hostage" while waiting 30 minutes for our room to be ready and to get our keys. Logically we know that they are doing their job but we were on vacation and had already decided what we wanted to spend for it.

Room Tip: The 6th floor unit was worth the price (inside). There was the noise of a generator each night which could be heard while on our balcony (but not in the room when the door was closed). After a few minutes you automatically "block out the sound".

We just returned from Casa Maya last night. I've always been told to start with the positive first, so...most all the staff were very friendly and tried to be helpful, although the majority did not speak or understand English. They always needed to go find someone else to help us. House keeping was great. We did not want our rooms cleaned daily and they respected that; only cleaning on the day we requested. We have been to Cancun three consecutive years and have stayed at a different resort each year. This resort is the one that we will not return to. First, as our airport transportation ( USA Transfers- great!) pulled up to the front door, the timeshare rep was already waiting for us! They had my last name wrong so she "allowed" me to go to the check-in counter. Once the check-in paperwork was completed ( it went fairly quick), we were told that we could not have our room keys until we sat with the timeshare representative! We were shown to a table in the lobby bar and waited almost 20 minutes before she arrived. We told her that we were not interested in buying another timeshare. She said that the only people at the resort were exchanges for RCI & Interval and then their Elite members. She said that she wanted to tell us how different our vacation would be if we were Elite members! Wouldn't you think that a resort would treat ALL guests the same? They have a separate section of their beach designated for their members only! All week, I think we saw 2 couples there. Other than different color lounges, having pillows and probably better drink service, the beach was no different than the one we were on all week. The timeshare reps are just too pushy. When we arrived, we were tired ( having traveled all day), hungry and needed to use a restroom. Also, we had stopped at WalMart to do some grocery shopping, which we had explained to the front desk, the bellmen and to our timeshare rep but no one really cared. Our food sat outside with our luggage. The bellmen could not take it to our room because we had not yet met with the rep and we had no room number or room keys. It was almost a half hour after first checking in that we insisted on having our keys. We politely told the rep, Vicky, that we were not going to sit through a sales pitch. Did I mention that I was recovering from surgery and had a sling on and was very uncomfortable! I needed to get to the room to do some stretching exercises. We have done many many vacation exchanges and have never been pressured like here...and right at check-in! We received phone calls and notes under our door to remind us to meet with her. We never did. Another major problem we had, was that there was no currency exchange. Even though people are allowed to pay wth US dollars and tip with US dollars, we were told no one could break a $10 or $20! This really hurt their staff getting tipped. We always tip, but not usually with $20's.
You should know the spa only accepts cash. Again, we do not carry a lot of cash when traveling, so we had to cancel our appointment. We did go to the gym every day, although small it was fine. George could not have been nicer!! I told him about my shoulder surgery and explained what I was doing in physical therapy and he & I came up with a plan for me to continue doing exercises. He was very knowledgeable and one of the few staff that could speak and understand English.
There is very limited places to eat and each have their own hours. The food was only ok, buffets were small and not much of a variety. We ( and most others) went elsewhere to eat. There is a wonderful Italian restaurant just around the corner. You can walk to it by beach or the front sidewalk- a 5 minute walk. It's back off the sidewalk so not visible right away.
Internet access had to be purchased daily. EVERY other place we have stayed, there is always free access and a few "hot spots" for people to sit.
Entertainment was a man playing a keyboard for a couple of hours each night. The dinner on the beach ( offered one night a week) was the same man and the food was very similar to the buffet we had on our first night there- rice, browned potatoes, mixed vegetables and a meat selection. Dessert was the same every night!
They were doing work outside our patio on a scaffold. There were pieces of stucco or rock dropping on our patio and the man actually was right there. We had no privacy. Knowing this they should have given us another room.
The weather was perfect and the beach clean so we relaxed and enjoyed our time, but we will not return or recommend this resort. We'll go back to the Omni or one of the Royals.

Room Tip: We had a corner room on the 4th floor and it was great.

Enjoyed return trip the the Imperial Fiesta at Casa Maya timeshare. Rooms were nice, pizza on the patio was pretty good. Sunday breakfast was very good. Main Pool was warm. Great bar - try a Bananna Monkey during happy hour. Kalua, Vodka, Cocont cream, and chocolate.
Close to downtown Cancun if you would like to try some of the great mexican restaurants down there. Met some very nice people. Friendly staff.

Room Tip: all rooms have a water view

My 21-year-old daughter and I went to Casa Maya in Cancun as an option in my vacation club membership, a 5-day mother-daughter girl trip (including the travel days), Nov 18-22, 2012. I was able to get a round-trip shuttle van from the airport directly to the hotel in 20 minutes for $72, which was reasonable - slightly more expensive than a public shuttle booked at the airport, but it avoids the 45 minute circuit of the entire hotel zone. The facility was clean and well-maintained, with 2 restaurants and a snackbar on site, plus a gift shop and a little store with prepared convenience food and sundries, and a "travel agency" for booking day trips and tours. We had a very comfortable one-bedroom unit with 2 double beds (standard hard Mexican beds, but I like firm beds so that was great), a livingroom area, a dining area and a fully functional and equipped kitchen with a full fridge, dishwasher, microwave and coffee-maker. The ac worked very well, but we didn't need it all the time because of the time of year, and we caught a wonderful breeze from the lovely balcony overlooking the grounds and the ocean. The room smelled a little damp when we first got there, but was fine after the unit was airconditioned for a day. Nice walk-in closet area with a safe for valuables, and the bathroom was roomy and nice, with a good shower and tub, all in very good condition. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful, and almost all spoke very good English - and they were very eager to help me with my "tourist Spanish." The food was about 3-star: tasty and some variety, more than adequate for our short stay. The facility is family friendly, and there were activities on-site throughout the day: pool and beach volleyball, pingpong, bingo, soccor, free 5-minute chair massages, water aerobics. The location at the north end of the hotel zone makes it convenient for off-site activities as well. The beach was VERY nice, with both shallow and deep areas, soft white sand, no rocks, no water shoes needed! Both adult and kiddy heated pools, and jacuzzis. One note: there is no currency exchange there - if you want to have pesos for shopping, get them at the airport - the facility takes credit cards, too. My daughter and I had a good time. I would go back in a heartbeat!

We flew in to Cancun around 11am, walked right past all the time share people to the outside and looked for our name, we prearranged transportation to and from airport to Casa Maya for private car for $50. Saw him with a sign and walked over and showed him our papers, he called for car and it was there in a couple of minutes. It only took about 20 minutes and we were pulling up. We went to front desk and register and were told it would be a little while. Timeshare salesman came over and bought up a drink and told us we would get free breakfast the next morning before the tour at 9am, we agreed and he went and came back with our room keys to 2815, nice room on the 8th floor, oceanview, one bedroom suite. No problems with anything after that. We then caught bus to Walmart for some supplies, only 8.5 pecos which is less than .65, make sure and use pecos because they wouldnt give you any change for a dollar. We use bus alot but alway tell the driver where you want off at and then watch also, sometimes they forget.
Timeshare only took a little over a hour and we told them no and they were ok, not that bad compared to some we have been on. They also gave us $50 to use at motel. We ate breakfast and diner a couple of nights, very good wood oven pizza. Very good time here, they treated us good.
