A group of us just returned from the Omni Cancun March 31st. Much like last years stay, it was a fantastic time. There are several complaints on this site regarding the rocks that were in front of the beach. Here are a few things to consider when reading those reviews: Mother nature is behind the ocean and the tide...the tide and undertoe were strong in the past couple weeks and the sand got washed out, uncovering the rocks that were below the sand base. The sand was there last year---even after recovering from Wilma. As we were eating breakfast one morning, we asked one of the restaurant workers about the rocks and he advised that it had just happend with the strong tide recently. He said it would fill in with in a few days, and toward middle to end of our week, the ocean had started bringing in sand and we noticed a big difference already. I wouldnt be surprised if it is filled in this week. Also, if you are disappointed about the rocks and such on the beach, you will be disappointed in most of that area of the hotel zone, as they are almost all the way down toward the hilton and then back up past the Marriotts. A majority of the properties are having that issue with the rocks. Its nature! What can you do about it? Its not the hotels fault. Also, as far as the tide and red flags, we went on a windy week. There were red flags as far as we could see. They are only doing that for your protection, as it is swim at your own risk.
Get up at an early hour if you would like to reserve a spot on the beach with a palapa/beach chair.
Once again, fabulous service at all restaurants. Be prepared and pack a nice pair of dockers, skirt and dressy clothes. DaVincci restaurant has a dress code and there were several people that got turned around in the restaurant to go change clothes. Tip the house keeping, and tip the servers...service is extraordinary if you do...
I would strongly recommend the AI plan. If not, drinks are $9 a piece and water was $4.50. I believe pop is the same. Then the meals are pretty spendy as well.
Great room, great view, and no musty smell. Have a great trip!
